The real question isn’t Shrader vs devito… it’s how in the world is the qb situation this bad in year 6? That alone is cause for Babers being let go. If he can’t spin developing an nfl qb into better qbs than we have now, that Is a flashing red warning sign that there is something seriously wrong with the program.
Just to make my final comment on this. I said before the game Saturday, the thought of their being a competition was a charade by Dino. Tommy will be your starter Saturday, and every game while he is here. Dino brought Tommy in
as his chosen one, and there is no way he is getting benched for someone else.
Dino is not going to admit he made a mistake, even if it costs him his job. So hopefully a light goes on for Tommy, because he is your QB this year. I don't expect Shrader to stay the whole year, his best bet is to move on. There was never going to be a realistic oportunity to start here.

Well Tucker was behind two experienced “starters” in Adam’s and Howard, plus I guess maybe Jordan. But there’s no way to know if he would have stayed behind those players once the season started.
It just seems like it’s Dino’s M.O. to be loyal and just stick with the same players. My guess is Tucker never see’s the field last year if Howard, Adam’s and JJ are here and healthy.

But no I don’t think Morgan is going to unseat anyone this year

We scored 62 points, where TD had one of the best throws I've ever seen in the dome... Let's shelve the weird criticism

Shrader wouldn't be getting any snaps if this were true, Rex got series last year, etc.

Bunk.

It’s not magic my friend it’s biometrics and observation with the data set in front of one. NOT purely statistics as the stats can be massaged and misused sometimes.

Having recruited a bit back in the day I always look for pure physicality before even looking at stats or play on the field. Since I was in a bit of a time out and couldn’t tailgate Got to the dome early and sat and watched warm ups.

Texted my fellow Fine messers from the stands pregame that #96 is going to be a player and factor no matter how much we blow them out. And that’s before I saw this:

From looking at the kids physical presence and then watching him warm up in drills I knew this was a kid with superior skills that we should go after and may very well have an nfl future. Huge fast quick athletic strong (Did you see his Tim green like sack pulling down TWO players simultaneously!) and to boot a good head on his shoulders (observed from watching him restrain his own players in a scuffle).

And that’s exactly the first thing Dino did post game and I can only hope he said he has a spot for him here and the kid can cut it academically (if he’s at UAlbany - a great school gonna figure this is a given).

Point of all this an experienced talent evaluater can make judgements by many methods and when all put together come to a conclusion re play and/or potential play on the field.

Now no question I’ve been wrong a few times over the years (cough cough -Ashton Broyld - when there were other factors beyond the physical underestimated), but most of this Is not magic nor a shot in the dark this stuff.

I thought 96 chasing down and nearly catching Tucker on the TD run was one of the most impressive things I saw all day.

He was also the guy who beat Berg on the Alford TD catch, but Tommy just did get it off in time. I was surprised he didn't tackle Alford at the 5.

He doesn't belong in FCS.

There’s a lot of guessing and maybes and I’m not sure any of it is remotely valid, including the “point being” at the end

Point being, my hypothesis is that there is no easy rip cord that is just "Tommy, GS is starting".

And, I think I'm right. But, it is 100% just my opinion.

Ish…Schrader can make throws. My guess is he was pressing a bit out there.

But IB is right - this offense would look very Dungey-eque with Schrader full time. Tommy is much more the short passing game with some downfield action.

Personally, I think Syracuse would be better off recruiting Schrader types. We will never have an OL that will allow 4-5 second progressions for the QB on every snap. And Tommy really struggles making anything happen under pressure. Throws a great ball when 1 is open or he has time.

I would rather have Schrader full time - he brings the RPO, read-option, and play action game to the table.

I don’t think this game showed us anything. Schrader made a bad throw forcing it into coverage - Tommy basically got himself killed because he has very little idea what to do when things break down.

All of this.

Ever since Dungey left, it's been abysmal. This offense is far better with a wheeling & dealing type of QB back there making plays with his feet and not afraid to make some tight throws. Devito is a little dude who cannot see the field well when things break down, which is more often than anyone would like.

I really, really want to see Lamson. In the meantime, I would go with Schrader full-time. If anything, let Tommy come in and fire some rockets around. He always did better as Dungey's backup.

You summarized it perfectly and I am in 100 percent agreement. I played for Albany and knew with my Alma Mater that Cuse would roll. Albany just lacks the speed in a big way to keep up with Cuse. The thing that kills me about Devito is his complete lack of Pocket and situational awareness.

It has been 3 years now that I have seen him fail to throw the ball away when he should or even through the ball away on 4th down. I am not lying, that really happened a couple years ago. He has costed us field goals by getting sacked when he holds the ball for 5 seconds.

Also, he fails to go through his progressions or hit his outlet when under pressure. It is not an easy thing to do and I tried to play QB and was terrible it. My quarterback at Liverpool couldn't do it either and either hit his first option or ran. The greats like Mahomes, Wilson, etc basically have 4/5 progressions which is 1st option, 2nd option, outlet option (running back) or pull it down and run.

Devito has a great arm and throws a pretty ball. The problem is that's where his skills end and especially with this team, we need so much more. I would ride or die with Shrader. I have seen Tommy's ceiling already and I want to see Shrader's

Lots of ppl liking a post where he said he fails to throw the ball away which I think is weird since he does it too much for my liking

On the replay, It showed a clip of Devito on the sidelines and you can read his lips saying it "wasnt to him" go and look at the replay... there is a receiver behind Pena about 5 yards or so more down field.. Devito was throwing to him(that's why it had so much zip on the pass)... I have not picked a side of the TD/GS debate yet.. but IF in fact Devito was not throwing to Pena... That means he did no see Pena..ie.. the short pass pattern.. and it might explain why there has been a ton of underneath stuff that has not been thrown/seen/attempted by TD in 3 years.. I dont think he sees the field very well...
I felt he was throwing the deeper guy too.. but that doesnt mean he didnt see Pena.. Maybe Pena ran the wrong route?

Shafer. Shraedder. Schraeffer. Sckratcher. Shraefendinger. Shcraeferer. Shrayifchker. Scrhraedear. Schroeder. Skhchroodingerdonger.

How do you spell it?!

He will be in the NFL. Kid has elite skills

The fact that we are having this debate with a multi-year starting senior QB versus a guy who was moved to WR in the SEC tells me that we shouldn't be going with TD. TD should have won this job no questions asked. The fact it is a close race in the minds of the fans and coaches tells me to go with youth and let TD transfer out.

Hot take - he did win the job outright but to get Shrader Dino had to make some promises he's now beholden to.

I have no inside info.

IMHO, the nod should go to whichever QB can sustain drives long enough to keep our defense from getting gassed.…AND ability to punch it in.

Maybe that is correct but I doubt it. Dino knows he has to win and I think he would play the QB that gives him the best chance to win. IMO It seems we have had people transfer out that promises weren't lived up to (again from outside looking in) I don't know why GS would be any different.
