I think its time for a discussion

They won 40-7 today with three special teams TDs. They will be sky high. I was there last year and it was a closer game than the score for sure. They missed kicks we stopped them on goal line and we stripped them while they were about to score another time. Maybe they’ll have a covid outbreak?
Sounds like people are getting the excuses ready a week in advance.

Dukes acceptance rate is 9 pct lower than Vandys. Duke isn't having success because of any advantages they have its because they hired the right coach.
Is it the same for athletes?

Yes, they hired the right coach... and it took time for him to turn them around. That is the whole point. We do not have the advantages you seem to think we have that would allow us to turn our program around much quicker than he did theirs.

I like Dino and willing to give him two more years. I don’t think coaching is the main issue. Recruiting has just been bad. This is year five and I think our offensive play makers were better four years ago. Our offensive line keeps getting worse. We complain when recruiting sites put us near the bottom of the ACC. They are correct and we way overrate our recruits. Our offense is void of talent. There’s not many players who would start on any other ACC teams. This staff has not recruited a big time quarterback, running back or receiver. Our two best receivers were transfers. I give Devito a pass because our line is dreadful, but who else have we recruited at quarterback. In year five we shouldn’t have to be playing freshmen all over the field.
And who recruits the players, that would be DB & co, they don't recruit well don't develop at all, for what ever reason they don't hit the transfer portal hard which when you can't recruit or develop your recruits you need transfers, This is year five and they won't win 5 games, all the players are his so the fact we had better players early on who were shafer says something, recruiting wasn't much better actually it was probably worse, so they did a better job developing guys, he's not getting two more losing seasons without being fired, I don't see any way he's fired after this year he has way to much money left on his deal, even if they end up 1-10, but a losing season in year 6 he'd be gone more than likely unless it was 5-7 they looked much better and had some sort of future

Yes it's always a little easier for athletes but it's still a really hard school to get into. For years we heard how difficult it is for Notre Dame to compete with the big boys because of how hard it is to get kids in there. Well Duke is even harder than Notre Dame.

in what regard did he over play his hand?
I was thinking maybe if the board tired of him in 2019 it’s because maybe his agent twisted their arm a little and they resent it if the wins aren’t there. I’m willing to bet there are a lot of egos involved

No, all athletes have to do is meet the minimum requirements which obviously are higher than most but they arent impossible like everyone makes it out to be, an uphill battle for sure but not 9%

When comparing Dino to Cuttcliffe, and I don't have the answer to this, how did those Duke teams look the first few years while losing? Were they getting better but just not over the hump? Because it seems like we've regressed big time even ignoring the wins and losses.

Eddie read his team the riot act today came out and called his defense embarrassing and they won a title last year. Where is that same fire from Dino?
Dino and team don’t show emotion on the sideline. It’s anthema

The requirements for athletes are easier but Duke is still one of the toughest schools to get into even for athletes.

Agreed but Wildhack doesn't like being embarrassed and that's whats happened 2 out of 4 games so far, not to mention the $$$ SU is paying in salary per the extension and other perks. SUs high rollers don't have nearly thr push SEC and B12 ones do but they do make a lot of noise and have trustees ears. If this thing keeps going sideways to a 2-9 or god forbid 1-10 things are gonna get nasty.
I am more concerned with the actual coaching than won=lost. I see this year more basic bad tackling technique than I have since Gerg was here, and that is 99% on coaching. The offense may be excused somewhat by depth at OL, but there is no excuse for poor tackling technique.
Dino had his best year using Shafer recruits, and he was fired partly for poor recruiting. The offense is pitiful. We only won GT because they helped us a lot with their own offensive penalties.
I am just so sick of watching bad football.

This season doesn’t count isn’t an excuse. The team is playing the league is playing and now most of college football is playing. How does he get a pass for a season he played. Because to running backs opted out? That’s not an excuse and to be honest I hope the team doesn’t welcome them back. The problems are all on Dino. Zero recruiting wins and he either is clueless to what talent he needs or he’s just a plain awful coach. Why haven’t they brought in any junior college or transfer receivers and lineman. How do you miss on that many qbs? How is Rex out number two? How did it take this long to figure out passes can be thrown over the middle and to tight ends. Dinos claim to fame is that he can build up others people’s talent and then bolts before he needs to bring in his own players. His seat needs to be hot now. The university has given him everything and we shouldn’t be in this situation

Not sure how good SRS is but here's how SU compares to Duke during Cuttcliffe's early seasons (paranthesis means negative in this case.)

Syracuse
2020 - 2.89 (before today's game)
2019 - (2.79)
2018 - 12.14
2017 - 1.96
2016 - (4.51)

Duke
2012 - (0.28)
2011 - (7.34)
2010 - (4.59)
2009 - (2.45)
2008 - (0.39)

Looks like they got worse every year before things started turning around in 2012.

Sure, Notre Dame has that reputation, but given what I've seen from some Duke basketball players, I'm not convinced they have the same standard.

Coach K is a legend so he has more leeway. But even Coach K has been told no about players.

How do you know this for fact? As I said in another reply, look at some of the basketball players they've hhad. K isn't just recruiting valedictorians. I've never heard this argument for the basktball team.

Despite what a few knuckle on this board think everyone else in the country thinks this season counts. If we bomb (which we will) we won’t be given a free pass by anyone. It will go down as yet another craptastic season for SU.
This season counts. Period. In July/August I felt differently but right now seeing how the conferences and the college football world is handling everything this year counts. No school or coach should get a free pass because of COVID, everyone is in the same boat.
