I think the following will come with Gerry

There are very few schools that have 20 million. Yes, a few, but not many
I used $20 million since it's a nice round number. There is no doubt that there is X amount of schools with a higher NIL. And X might be a very fluid number.

I probably should have said that Cuse is competing against schools that have more resources than us.

We should be able to compete with $12mm. We should have been able to compete this year at 9mm. There are teams a lot more with less than that

A lot more teams than people on this board realize. A close friend from
HS is an AD at a PSU satellite school and works closely with the AD in State College( yeah not a fan of his school choice) who has shared a lot about where things are for a number of even B10 schools for NIL and people would be surprised how well 12 mil plus stacks up even in that league. Donor fatigue is piling up especially where programs had a head start with having more money at the beginning and everyone is catching up or surpassing.

l think of Folefac in a McNeil role in our championship year....need that kind of bulk in certain games...also want Tiefing Diawara and Aaron Womack to stay.

I changed it for you. Don't forget that Cuse is not competing with just ACC schools, but also competing against the SEC, the B1G, and the Big 12.

As sad as it is to say, $12 Million (if that's the number) only goes so far.

People are writing down Dylan Mingo's name like Cuse is the only school out there. But Cuse is also competing with other programs that have a $20 million, or more, war chest.

It's a dog eat dog world and hopefully GMAC is able to bring enough milk bones to the table.
You can count on one hand who had 12 last year.

As I have gone through the posts, I think this happened (I might be incorrect in some places): Hodgson was the early choice, but either he was crossed off for his remarks to Trey (I’m okay with that. The MBB coach at SU is the public face of the University), or a bad interview and or JB interference. Shertz took himself out early. ADBB brought him back in, and evidently there was an agreement in place, until a whale swooped in to keep him there. Now, what do you do from there? Do you keep going down the list, to lesser choices and ignore what Gerry has done?
Gerry was told not now kid, we’re following form and taking the next in line. Go out, prove yourself. He did. Someone posted Hodgson’ resume here. Gerry’s is pretty comparable.
Lastly, as the head of the biggest entertainment organization north on NYC and west of Buffalo, you have to listen a bit to your audience. As far as that goes, GMac was the best hire left on the table. Then, ADBB has to consider NIL. So far, GMac has (seemingly) crushed that end of it.
Good post, you covered the important things. Gerry might not have been the top choice, but one thing we know he will not tolerate is player's continually doing the same bad thing over and over.

Meaning that “ace recruiter” is a completely dumb and irrelevant thing nowadays. The ace recruiter in today’s game is cash and that’s what GMAC is currently chasing.
This isn't aimed at you just something I see a lot of people saying. I don't think this could be further from the truth - having an ace recruiter might be more important than ever.

Having kids that will come for a 'discount' because of relationships so that you can utilize resources across many players is very important. Getting kids to come when the money is similar because of the relationships is very important. Having a recruiter that understands the dynamic of not just hoops, but being a brand and what the schools brand and NIL has in store to raise the players brand is very important. Some kids will be for the highest bidder, sure - but I can assure you a lot of kids and families will appreciate and respect relationships driven coaches that aren't treating them as a financial number to live up to.

A few points I would like to make in addition:

1. A recruit (and their family and agent) is making just as much a business one, as a basketball one now. They're evaluating deal structures, NIL collectives, market value, and earning potential alongside all the hoops stuff. A great recruiter NOW - has to do everything they used to do and be a fluent in business and helping them make that business decision.

2. Families are often coming in with advisors, handlers, and agents, a lot more hands in the cookie jar than there even used to be (and hands out). An ace recruiter being able to navigate that is HUGE. Earning power here, and beyond and not just development is an important piece of the puzzle.

3. In the pre-NIL era, a solid recruiter at a well-branded school could ride the logo pretty far (Still exists of course) but NIL leveled parts of the playing field. So in my opinion, the relationships of recruiting matters more, not less. The program's brand is still important, but the recruiter's ability to close in a noisy, money-driven market is now an enormous differentiator.

We have maybe THE Mid-Major transfer coming here as a shoe-in telling you exactly this. He's not up for grabs to the highest bidder (of course some kids that will still be the case), but he's playing for his guy. Just get him close and fair money wise (I'd presume) but he's rocking with Gerry.

Let's not forget that we have a few academic programs that are top notch and fairly specific to SU. Falk, Newhouse, Maxwell. Some still care about academics. They are not all going to the NBA. Falk in particular gives them a lane to be connected to the business even if they play professionally overseas or G league for a few years. And they don't have to finish the degree, but come back afterwards. So that, while not huge, can be a selling point.
