If you could add one former player to this team...

DC is the pick he could score against anyone , he could bring the ball up the floor, was a great outlet passer, also had a triple double, could play both forward and center, intimidated everyone including the refs.

Thinking about players form years gone by is pointless. The best question is: who could have been on this team would you want on this team. Most of our struggles are on the offensive end, so I'd have to go with Dion. But I felt that Melo's offensive game was going to be the next think to develop and that that would happen this year. Either could have been a national player of the year candidate.

It might also be fun to ask: who of the players coming in for next year would you most want to have been on this team? Gbinije could have helped us.

who would it be?

This is a question that seems to get posted at some point during every season. Saw a post earlier saying Devendorf would help this team, which is no doubt true.

So knowing what we know about this current group, who would you add?

I'm torn between a big and a guard. This team is best stocked at the forward spots. The team needs help on both sides of the ball in the middle, some outside shooting, and just a high offense guy in general who can create his own shot and make things happen on offense.

I think I'd go with Waiters, in part due to the fact that he would still just be a junior right now. He woulda been turned loose this year, he could shoot the three and get to the tin almost at will (he woulda brought just about everything to the table that Devendorf did, but was a better all around player).
Brandon Reece. This years walk-ons are an embarrassment.

Adding another player to this team would be so complicated since so many players and their skill sets can be hot and cold on any given night. You don't need a three point specialist when Dirty and/or BT hit 6 threes for you, and we all know how capable they are of accomplishing that. And rebounding from the guard position is so strong with this team, I'm not sure they need a big time rebounder right now. I'd almost take Wes because of his ability on the wing defensively, not his offense (though he was filthy there, too).

Wes was not a very good wing defender. That and his handle were his two biggest weaknesses.

Twist this thread another way, what current Orangeman would you like see on another years team. CJ on '96 team? MCW on '90 team?

I am too young to remember Dave Bing. My answer is always going to be DC or Melo. They are the best two players I have seen play for SU.

He was a great rebounder for his size and his weakside help defense, especially near the basket, was very good.

I'll go with Triche on the 91 team (in place of Mike Edwards). Maybe Richmond doesn't happen.

No Billy Owens? Anyone? Really?

I thought of Billy Owens. Great inside player/rebounder, along with his 23ppg. He averaged about 12 rebounds/game as a junior. If not him, then Coleman or Seikaly. Feel like we weed a rebounder/inside scorer.

Billy is my all-time favorite player; the reason I became a 'Cuse fan. My grandfather used to take me to watch Billy play in high school - wherever he ended up in college was going to become my favorite squad, so in hindsight I am so glad he chose to follow his brother to Syracuse.

When I responded to this thread, I put my own criteria to it - guys that could be role players in areas of need, rather than the guys like 'Melo, Coleman, or Owens who would take over the team. But yes, any 'Cuse squad would be elevated with the presence of Billy Owens!
