And some people (on this message board) think that he just throws the balls out in practice.

He did a nice job in four areas:

1) Subs were pretty I strong I felt overall...seemed to hit the right numbers

2). Press, enough's been said

3) Removing the ball screen which was only complicating match-ups.

4). Finally guarded Perrantes, which should have happened out of the locker room but still, solid adjustment

It's OK, on a fan message board, to over the course of the season, mention where there are errors made in a season with 13 losses...but clearly the team has grown and the Coach has learned to coach them

He's also been about 100 percent positive toward the players. He's a master coach and psychologist. I assume the convo tonight and this week is that they need to stay focused because losing now is sooo painful.

I sat next to an NBA scout (who knew a ton about high-school and college players, of course) on an Amtrak train between NYC and DC over the Christmas season. He predicted Syracuse might have a very dark period (5+ years) once Boeheim leaves. He thought not only that Boeheim is a great coach, but that it will be much harder to recruit players to SU. When I said that I thought Hopkins was a good recruiter he replied, "He's good at recruiting kids to play for Jim Boeheim. Jim is one of the more admired coaches among young players. They've seen him coaching all their lives at the same school. That kind of stability can be appealing for kids who may not have a strong male role model in their lives."

While I hope he's wrong about any sort of dark period following Jim's retirement, I do recognize he's one of the best the game has ever had.

I don't think that Nba scout knows what he is talking about, The Brand that Jb has built will attract recruits, along with the Carrier dome and the Melo center.

Tonight you choose to post this uplifting message? From now on maybe we should just call you, Mr Buzz Kill

I think recognizing we have one of the best coaches in the game IS an uplifting thought as we head into the Final Four. Wait... he's coaching the final four, right?

I've always trusted, but I'll give him credit for two things especially this season. First at the beginning of the season for saying, we're a little better team than last year. And 2 for saying Friday after the game, talking about the elite 8, it doesn't matter who is the better team, but who plays better that night, and that "we will be the better team". He was correct on both accounts. I'm loving life right now.

Doesn't the brand include JB? Many programs have had brands when a HOF coach leaves and the brand takes a downturn. Expecting Hopkins to sustain JBs level of success is almost unfair. While we may not be a blue blood but year and year out its hard to find a program that has sustained the success that we have over the course of time it has. It didn't happen on accident, it happened because of JB. I think Hopkins will be fine but continuing what JB has done is remarkable.

My favorite JB move -- one that other coaches aren't as willing to make -- is he often doesn't immediately adjust to a player that is hammering us. He'll wait until half-time to make the adjustment, which often puts us down more at the half, but doesn't give the opposing coach all of half-time to plan and make his adjustment to our adjustment.

People are going to have to have some patience with Hopkins though. JB has just gone to another level in tournament performance in recent years. He has 40% of his Final Fours in the past 3 years of a 40 year career.
