Gross wouldn't want to ruin his BRAND by showing his face during these allegations. He won't be able to buy NYC in a couple years like he has been planning for some time now. It is not "odd" at all. It is totally appropriate for him not to comment. This is being handled at the Chancellor's level. There is notthing that the AD can contribute to the discussion. Having him comment serves no purpose and could only add fuel to the controversy. The last thing that the University needs is for assorted "representatives" speaking on a subject that they have no personal knowlege about.

Gross wasn't at SU during the time the university conducted its own investigation back in'05. His silence shouldn't be a suprise to anyone...he's a subordinate and at a lower pay grade than the players making the decisions...
