When will everyone come around?

Why beat yourself up in non-conference when the league is so tough? Thats what a lot of these people dont understand. The Big East has been brutal. By the end of the year we will have had played one of the toughest schedules. Some of these teams have had to go outside of conference just to get quality competition. Until this year the Big 10 has been relatively weak except for a few teams. I have never been one of those who begged JB to schedule tougher non- coference teams. They will be battle tested by the NCAA tournament

Big Ten isn't that strong this year, just overhyped and over rated. Even the best year for the Big Ten is an average year in the Big East.

Now Big Ten isn't anywhere near SEC bad but I'm not sure any other conference that is. You have Kentucky and then Florida as the second best team but since we beat Florida this year they are no longer recognized as a good team.

And, they will be tested by people who know them inside and out, rather than by others who scout them for a day or two before the game and have not played our personell.

A few years ago, when John Cheney was coaching Temple, I would grind my teeth whenever the talking heads praised him for his tough non-con schedule. What choice did he have? The A10 was a very weak conference (except for those few years of "Refuse to Lose" UMass). If Temple played an average OOC schedule, they would have been killed on Selection Sunday.

Conversely, with the normal power of the BE, it was crazy for SU, and others, to go gung ho OOC. I remember one year, '03-'04, I think, that MSU played a suicidal non-con that sabotaged the team.

s of Monday, 66 of 345 Division I schools had yet to win a true road game (19 percent), including three in the top 25: Kentucky, Michigan and Florida. Kentucky picked up its first road win Wednesday, but it was a close game throughout at lowly Auburn.

Is pretty incredible.

Btw, I don't think the title of this post is right. Izzo doesn't seem to be calling his schedule the Boeheim theory. He is saying that theory is the opposite of his, basically.

If so nothing I can do about it now, there is no edit function on headlines.

Apparently, you are not familar with the PAC-12.

The beauty of cherry picking stats. He compares Boeheim's road schedule though his first 11 games to Izzo's through the beginning of this week. Why? Because illustrates his point better. If you take Syracuse's road games through the beginning of this week guess what? They have 4 road wins just like MSU.

Someone should remind that writer how Izzo has done against Boeheim head to head.

Our confernece sucks this year tho.

out of curiosity - whats up with the shot clock? pm me when you get a chance.

UCLA and Arizona will eventually be back. Stanford and Cal are usually solid. Oregon, Washington and USC have good teams every few years.

SEC have Kentucky and Florida. That's all they ever have anymore aside from Vandy occasionally having a pulse.

When its all said and done, Boeheim's resume crushes Izzo's. Thats all that matters.

If I'm not mistaken, Izzo is 1-4 against JB

As for "home games", Ann Arbor and Columbus are closer to E. Lansing than NYC is to Syracuse. West Lafayette is about the same distance as NYC and Champaigne/Urbana is probably about the same too.

So once MSU starts conference play, will his "road" games be "home" games?

I'm suprised that MSU plays road games at all...it means that Izzo has to get out the booster seat so that he can see over the dashboard

Not sure. But if so, that one win was played in Michigan, in Izzo's back yard.

It was played at the Palace in Auburn Hills. I was at the game. SU, Iowa State, and whomever the 4th team was got 250 tix apiece. The rest of the arena...and it is about 60% larger than MSU's Breslin Center...were all MSU fans. The place was a better home court advantage than an MSU home game.

JB has beaten Izzo at home, at MSU, and on neutral courts

I guess Izzo would probably tell you one of those h2h games was of a bit more importance than the others.

I'd predict a Cuse beat-down over Michigan State in East Lansing, on a freaking aircraft carrier, at the local elementary school playground...where ever. Bring it Izzo!

We both know that MSU playing in cbus is not the same as Syracuse playing in the Gardwn. Place don't use logic.

Are you sure about that? I am as big of a JB fan as the next, but JB can not come close to the number of FF's MSU has been to in recent years. Unfortunately, that's a seemingly end all be all measuring stick with the media likes...

JB's regular season finishes are more impressive. That consistency year in and year out is just as difficult to maintain as getting to the final four a few times. Sure, you can say JB teams might not peak at the end of the season, but results on single elimination tournaments won't be what JB is judged by. Big East is by far a better conference than the Big 10 over the past 25 years. Not even close.

This is a great line... Testing your team in conference games that had Izzo had nothing to do with, and Northwestern's arena is probably as intimidating as the Dunkin Donuts Center.

After playing in front of the president on an aircraft carrier and at the kennel in Spokane, how intimidating is Welsh-Ryan Arena or Crisler Center?
Those are Michigan State's next two opponents: Northwestern and Michigan. It's not just about exposure or money. Izzo wants to test his team.
