J’Onre Reed transferring to USC

You don't have to buy it, but that's just reality. The running game was terrible this year and part of the reason was because the interior offensive line play was subpar. So the numbers matched what we saw for the most part. He was an average pass protector as well. Is what it is. Sure, it would've been nice to have him back. But it's not bashing him to say that it's not a killer loss.
So to me it's not a loss if you have a suitable replacement. I would imagine all things equal to lose our starter and 2nd string leaving us currently for next season just our 3rd string center and incoming freshman is not great? That said, they are both big dudes which is good. The freshman will be a true center which is also good. But I would say we have big questions at center heading into the spring. We could bring in a portal guy so still options there as well.
Unless people know something about Hornsby that changes the calculus?

it is OK to fill positions of need with guys in the program who have worked their way up sometimes it's not always going to be a step back. not every perceived position of need needs to be a portal guy.
Completely fair and agree. Perhaps it's best to frame our current center situation as TBD.

Regardless of his PFF Grade I like Reed because :

- He has a big personally
- He seemed very thankful to be here
- He was passionate
- I believe he was well liked
- He seemed like a leader
- He’s physically mature
- He’s got a lot of experience

Maybe our ‘25 Center grades out higher PFF but as a fan I’m sorry to see J’Onre go.

Pretty sure he was banged up this year too
This.

He played hurt at least the last 10 games. Maybe the whole season.

It was something pretty serious because he could not get through games without coming out for extended periods. By the end of the season it got so bad I don't think he even played against Miami.

I think if he was healthy, he would be played a lot better. And for that reason, I think it makes a lot more sense to get him to come back for 2025 than Petry or Bradford.

Both those guys did a decent job for us but I think were close to 100% all season and I don't think either has much of a ceiling to approve. They were in the barely adequate range.

Reed might well be an above average center if he gets to 100% for 2025. Anyone know exactly what was wrong with him? It was something with the lower body. He limped all season long, it got worse as games progressed and also as the season progressed.

Maybe a badly pulled muscle or a severe high ankle sprain?

Graded as our worst starting offensive lineman. I just don't think it's a huge loss. Did some good things but just overall was an average to below average Center the entire year. We'll be okay.

That’s not true. Of the starters he was our 2nd best run blocker and 4th pass blocking. 2nd overall.

Ok relax evryone he was almost last in blocking and graded 14th in conference. Thats terrible. He needs to be gone. the sr blocked way better hurt or not. He will be a Mac or less kid. Who cares.

Reed was low to upper average in pass and run blocking. Josh has a failing grade for pass blocking and barely above failing in run blocking.

Visiting USC.

Surprised USC has interest in J'Onre.

That is one program that has really dropped in terms of talent level and prestige.

I can understand a kid from Houston wanting to play somewhere warmer than Syracuse. Even if he has little chance to play in a bowl game or have a winning season.

Good luck to him if he decides to go there.

Like California usc? He won’t play there

Believe he also visited UCLA when he was out west and he is planning on visiting some SEC schools as well. Pretty sure he is gone for good.

USC lost their center. There are really slim pickings in the portal so they are desperate for a live body.

J'Onre is much better than a "live body", come on Tom
I like J’Ondre and hope he ends up staying here. Not sure we want him back but I want him back

Just saying I am surprised USC has been reduced to going after a player who does not have the pedigree of player they are normally after.

Reed might well be the best center left in the portal. It is not loaded with outstanding interior linemen.

I absolutely think he has the pedigree of USC and I think he has the pedigree of SU as well. I'd be shocked if we were the ones that told him to move on.

Will be very disappointing if he decides to go play elsewhere. Would be great to see him play again healthy in a Syracuse uniform. If McCord comes back, got to think it would be a more exciting college season in Syracuse than in LA.
