JB absolutely killing Patterson and Kaleb in the PC

That was actually Gbinije up until the final minute. He was the only guy to airbags 3 passes out of bounds.

The whole team looked pretty crappy last night.

Oh absolutely. Just commenting about RP and KJ specifically.

There's a real pattern with the type of players they're recruiting.

We need more players who can score off the dribble, knock down 3s, finish in breakaways.

Seriously. We truly do - its amazing how little we can penetrate. In a good year we have 1.5 players that can get to the rim off the bounce w/ relative ease. Seems like 0 of late.

I wonder if when he has marital disputes he asks Julie who recruited her?

Nah, he still thinks he struck gold whenever he looks at her even if he screwed up and she's fuming. ;)

You can't recruit all top 50 players, every now and then you have to take a chance on someone like a Warrick or an AO, and hope they pan out. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don't.
That is true plus we don't pay for our players unlike UK for instance.

Ron had a couple of layups/dunks but he was a disaster out there. Bad turnovers, airballs, defensive lapses. We should know by now that Cooney gets a free pass on this year's team which he probably should since there are no other options.

Thank God someone else saw those same defensive lapses. Our guards are pretty good at stealing passes, but all three are absolutely terrible at identifying shooters and contesting open 3-pointers. Cooney included. Cooney pissed me off last night when (right before the media timeout at the under 4 - I think - in the first half) he was more concerned about the potential pick to his left that he let the guard dribble right down the middle of the lane and score an easy floater over Rak. And I'm sure Kaleb was blamed for that one in the ensuing timeout despite the fact that he was actually in the proper spot covering another shooter up top. But they all suck at really closing out and contesting 3s.

The first part of this.

Boeheim probably told Ron not to shoot 3's just like he told Fab not to shoot jumpers. Boeheim (any coach) doesn't like it when players don't listen.

This. First of all I have no problem with the presser and I 'bash' JB as much as anyone. Seems like everybody is forgetting the first few minutes of the presser how JB was truly praising the team on the comeback and how it was perhaps the best comeback he was involved with given the circumstances, how poorly they were playing, etc.

The one thing he does do is tell it like it is. It may be in a surly, awkward, and comical way but he tells it like it is. I have more of a problem with how he treats media especially when the questions seem pretty normal and not invasive. But, like you said, I have no doubt that he has told Ron multiple times NOT to shoot 3s. The proof is the pudding like he said. I am sure he all year and all game was telling Kaleb NOT to continue to miss rotations. Especially from a good and hot shooting 3pt team. When they repeatedly don't learn and don't listen things like the presser happen. The players and offenders need to hear it, frankly.

if JB didn't see jerami or tyler jumping then that's on him.

I agree with this. Before last season even started I assumed Grant was gone based on the way the NBA is drafting. Once Ennis hit that shot at Pitt, he was as good as gone as well. There was lots of debate about getting a 5th yr grad student just in case, and I bet more people would be on board with that idea now.

I get the fact that Boeheim doesn't want Ron to throw up those 3's and when he got as animated as he did explaining this, it was easy to tell how frustrated he is with Patterson's shot selection. Again, I get that. I also don't have a big problem with what he said about Kaleb because you can tell that Boeheim believes in the young man and just wants him to get better faster (like not missing those defensive assignments) because he wants him IN these kinds of games but doesn't feel he can if he is going to be a liability from a defensive standpoint. The difference between what he said with Kaleb and Ron was that basically that Kaleb needs to be in the game but isn't because of his D whereas Ron provides us with nothing and is ONLY in there because of Kaleb's deficiencies on D. There is a big difference psychologically in that message. I see Kaleb as getting hammered in the press conference while Ron getting trashed.

Say what you want about Ron's shot selection, but he did so some nice things tonight as well as in many other games. For Boeheim to say that the only reason he is in the game is because the other guy (Kaleb) can't play D is a load of crap. He has shown that he is steady with the ball, doesn't turn it over much, feeds the ball really well inside (usually to Rak), and plays good D.

Again, the argument isn't so much whether what Boeheim said was valid but instead how he delivered the message. Fine, be tough (or in Boeheim's case) really tough on a player, but don't trash a young man like he did last night.

This has been a big issue since Dion left. A big reason why the offense has generally been pretty piss poor since. Shooting problems as well but we really struggle with ball handling and lack of dribble penetration the last few seasons. Clearly a problem.

That one ranks with "He got one more rebound than a dead man."

Really strong words from JB on RP, "He's got to be in the game because the other guy isn't playing defense".

Wow, "the other guy isn't playing defense" is one of the harshest comments I've heard JB make. Our PGs and SGs need more strength training for their legs in the weight room. It's funny how you don't know how much you are going to miss a guy like Triche until he's gone. Same thing with Scoop. Boy, I sure wish we had those guys!!! Compare Triche and Scoop to KJ and RB. My God. You don't know how good you have it until you don't.

JB is an insecure guy!!?? What an unbelievable statement.

How long have you been a fan? Lots of evidence for this. Just listen to a handful of his press conferences from any year, your pick.

We were pretty spoiled with guard play until this season which is why its so hard to watch and comprehend the constant struggling IMO
08: Jonny, Devo, Andy
09: Andy, Scoop, Brandon
10: Scoop, Brandon, Dion
11: Scoop, Brandon, Dion
12: Brandon, MCW, Trevor
13: Tyler, Trevor, Mike

Its no wonder were good from 08-13

Just curious. Did Coach talk about us not pressing because we're not very good at it?

I couldn't believe how effective our press was last night. What was VT thinking? The times they beat the press instead of pulling it out and getting their offense set (and taking some time off the clock) they attacked the basket. And missed!

Perhaps he has repeatedly told them privately not to do things, but they continue to do them, so this is the next step.
Perhaps Thomas Bryant needs a scholarship

That may be so but it doesn't make what he said okay, especially when other players do the same things and don't get a peep from him. How many times has Cooney blown his defensive assignment? Why aren't we talking about his 2-10 shooting in the 2nd half? How many games are we going to realistically win with him taking 18 shots? 50% more than anyone else on the team? This is why I say Boeheim often sounds more like a fan with an incomplete knowledge of the game in these pressers than a coach near the top of his profession.

And every year we see this behavior. Boeheim has one or more whipping boys whom he treats differently than the rest. I've hardly ever seen this work out well for him but he keeps doing it. I'm sure the players see the different treatment too if we do. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the older guys tell the whipping boys to tune it out and they take it literally.

People complain about JB ripping on his players after every game, which is about twice a week, but I read people ripping on our players every hour of every day on this forum.

Nobody here coaches those players. Nobody here is seen by the media. Nobody here is seen by recruits and parents. Nobody here has to decide how to motivate the players. And nothing said here impacts the players like something said in public by their coach.

It's not a valid comparison at all.

That's fair, but it's also fair to note that nobody here has a much on the line or is as invested as JB is either.

and LOU got zero from the bench again last night.. we at least got 6-8. Must be pitino cant recruit either.
