JB defenders...a message to you...

huh? I never said that I wanted him to live an "'ed up life". He'll get paid handsome sums of money to goaltend, er, play basketball. He'll be just fine.

I just don't want him to further tarnish my school's reputation.

I was asking if your comment meant you have the same ill wishes for him as Iommi.

Fab's fencing instructor: "Jim, there is nothing I can do...he scored a 9 on the final.. he didn't even break double digits."
JB: "Not TEN ?? He wasn't ready?"
Fencing instructor: "Thats right...not ten."

for me, it's a combination of everything. any one thing in isolation would be easy for me to shrug off.

at this point it's just "what can we do to stop the bleeding"

Without knowing all the facts, we don't know what is causing the bleeding.

I'm trying to think of an example of a legendary coach getting forced out, where the program kept on trucking. I can't think of one. I suspect that, if JB is pushed out the door, the basketball program will take a MAJOR step back. Maybe it's time for him togo, but I have no expectations that this ends well for Syracuse University if that's the route they go.

"Go home to Brazil and I wish you zero success in your future endeavors."

"Character counts."

Well i can think of some better ways to say that WITH CHARACTER. That is, if character actually does count.

You know what counts? Melo and Dion both leaving in bad academic standing after this season...that is going to count more than character.

Combination of what,

1. An assistant coach has been accused of illicit behavior that is said to have occured at the latest over a decade ago, without additional credible accusers since that period.

2. There is a question about the school 100% complying with an internal policy a couple of years ago, and has supposedly been self reported to the NCAA.

3. One kid on scholarship, a foreign student trying to learn in a second/third language, is not cutting it academically, and his effort in that area is in question.

Where's the connection?

I love this board and respect the vast majority of people and their opinions. That being said, there are a number of very prominent posters on this board who get very up in arms if any criticism comes JB's way.

Enough is enough.

It's time for a change. The buck stops with one man. James Arthur Boeheim. I know we'll hear from the blind loyalists...things like, "How can Boeheim be expected to know EVERYTHING that is going on in his program?" I guess he can't. But there has been a trend of off-the-court bs for decades at Syracuse. I don't want to hear, "it happens at all programs." That's a cop out. There is one man who is the face of this "franchise." If we are willing to blast Calipari and Calhoun and everyone else for their transgressions: why is JB immune to that same criticism? This year we've become a poster child for what is wrong with big-time college sports programs. My apologies to class acts in our program like Kris Joseph, just to name one example of someone who seems to get what an honor and a privilege it is to be in his position.

I know what people will say: Jim Boeheim has meant so much to this school...to this community...he does tons of charity work. That is all well and good and those are things that should be applauded. But what about the other coin: seemingly every year it's one thing or another off the court. I am an alum and a fan and I'm sick of it. I'm frankly sick of being one of those apologists with my friends and family and random 'Cuse and JB bashers.

It's time for a change. JB needs to resign. I'm not even sure Mike Hopkins is the best replacement. He learned everything from JB...played for him and has been an assistant for a long time too. I think it's time to hand the reins over the someone from the outside and start fresh. I have no clue who that is but maybe someone like Shaka Smart, I don't know... or Brad Stevens...someone young and energetic. And someone who values values.

Oh, and Fab Melo: you are a loser and my least favorite player ever to wear the uniform. Go home to Brazil and I wish you zero success in your future endeavors.

Character counts.
I'd rather watch paint dry then watch a Brad Stevens team play

The amazing thing to me is that people ARE connecting the three...and then think the way to "stop the bleeding" is to hack off the left leg with a saw and no anesthesia. Great plan folks, great plan...

Rational thinking is a lot to ask of a Cuse fan at this moment, right or wrong. Been a long stressful year off the court. We are firmly in the anger phase at this moment. Hopefully, that will yield itself to acceptance and ultimately understanding. I agree with you though. People, me included, just want to throw blame and responsibility on someone.

It stinks having this stuff fly out. But as far as JB's head, I think we need to give it time. It seems to be more of throwing stuff against the wall and seeing what sticks.
The Bernie thing is looking less and less by the day. It is shrinking down to a he said/he said of Bernie vs Bobby. It was 20 years ago.
The drug thing is almost 10 years ago. Looking like some players smoked weed.

Now academic problems. Recent. But this latest blow seems related to what happened a month ago. So, if, you didn't want JB fired a month ago, why now? It seems to be the same issue, revisited, with a different decision made.

You have events spanning decades and combine them together for this year. It makes things look worse than they really are. Any program would have difficulties looking at 20 plus years of all of their participants.

I certainly hope the administration doesn't bow to media pressure in their witch hunt with SU and fire JB. In the past 20 years Bernie may have done some funny business with someone, kids probably did some drugs, and Fab is an idiot. I don't get firing JB from that.

You're looking at everything way too logically.

I knew I'd get responses like this...already people are making excuses...surprise, surprise surprise.

Pot/kettle unless you know exactly what happened and you know that Fab is a bad person. Otherwise, it sounds like your character could use an upgrade.
Fab has done bad things. Maybe he has since changed IDK.

What, no more cliches to throw out? So, a few people have opposing views from yours and they're just lemmings and apologists?

I don't see too many excuses on here, btw, just a lot of "let's wait and see what the facts are before we go and throw everything out the window." You seem to want to fire everyone first and then search out the facts later. Prudent people don't behave that way.

I have no clue why Fab is ineligible. I'm not in the shoot first crowd. This wasn't an isolated off the court issue. Listing them all won't help this discourse.

Um yes, you are in the shoot first crowd. You already have the guns blazing and the ink isn't dry on the story yet...

This board is full of JB worshipers what did you expect? I seen a couple people post that if JB was let go they would stop watching SU basketball. JB should resign at the end of the season but he wants 900 wins so he'll be back.
If nothing else, you're a consistent troll.

What a bunch of BS ! The school and JB has been doing right things. declaring Ineligibility when needed . Firing Fine when it came out. Reporting themselves when discovering drug abnormalities . Other programs have problems also and don't report them wait for NCAA to find them bad apples are occasionally in all programs ride it out and wait for what occurred to come out before placing blame and judgement !

Looks like a shot to me.

You've already appointed yourself as judge, jury, and executioner ... in spite of the fact that you "have no clue".
Again...this latest "issue" is just the straw that broke the camel's back...I am not shooting after being sick and tired of all of these "issues"--and I'm not just talking about 2011-2012. It's my opinion. I only wrote what a lot of people on this board don't have the stones to write. They're thinking it but won't type it and post it.

And again, I'm not going to list all of these "issues." But if you follow the program, you'll know the names and the incidents.

That's a load of crap. This is an anonymous message board where people freely express their opinions - everyone has big stones here. Few people are holding back their true feelings, particularly today. And a lot of them disagree with you.

I'm proud to take a moral high ground on this or any issue. I'm not perfect; never claim to be or act like I am. It's obvious the captain has lost control of the ship. I have plenty of friends who respect me so I'll have plenty of people to say hi to up here in my "ivory tower."

Serious question, have you ever lived near a large D1 school other than Syracuse?

Yes, I live within a 50 mile radius from a handful of D1 schools.
