Jim as we all knows likes to play his best players significant minutes. He has done this his whole career and been extremely successful. Usually it doesn't create issues because most years it is very clear who the best players are.
Not this year and that is the issue.
3 guards should be 4 with Griff. 2 are favored and one is his son. Other than Kadary none are exceptional. More role players than starters let alone stars.
Center. 3 true 1 a forward who Jim starts at Center. 1 chronically injured, 3 others who dont play.
Forwards. 6, 7 if you include Buddy.
Not one that is exceptional. Griff is really a 2, Bras has shin issues, Gumby has to play center and cant shoot Woody? Q is our best but has no handle and an iffy 3 shot.

So unlike most years Jim has a collection of players that all have elements to their games that are solid but he doesn't have a single player that can do it all relative to their positions.
Tough spot for the old boy complicated by a Fathers blindness.

Yeah, JB has always been a ride your starters full tilt guy, where his 'wheelhouse' or comfort zone has typically been 6-7 guys playing meaningful minutes. And, even less than that in the 2nd half of close games come January/conference play where the outcome was still in doubt. Moreover, if he did sub in the 2nd half, it mostly had to do with one of the starters being in serious foul trouble vs. how he was playing.

Since this has pretty much been the case throughout JB's tenure here, it really doesn't surprise me a wink. In my view, the larger issue (than uncertainty of who the best players are) has more to do with the pent up frustration of being pigeon holed in mediocrity several years in a row now.

The static of PT in these parts has always been discussed/bantered to some degree over the years, but it didn't carry the much louder noise/weight as it does today because we were consistently competing for conference championships, high tourney seeds, etc. vs. competing just to get in the Dance.

Its also indicative of a lack of talent. When Marek is the center and Buddy plays more minutes per game than DC did we have an issue.

not developing a bench or rotating players to keep them fresh is easy. just do nothing. not ever changing your defensive scheme to adapt to game play is easy. just do nothing. just roll it out and watch. easy.

Riding your starters worked before the Transfer portal came into play...kids expect to play some not ride the bench for 2-3 years before Boehiem thinks your ready. Boehiem's starting to get a little irritated now because announcer's are starting to question his rotations... SU fans always have...lol

Today was a head scatcher. JB is marching to a strange little drummer in his coaching head. Maybe its a minny version of little G. " coach coach" regardless the guys beat the worst team in the ACC today, grinded it out so we keep the dream alive.

I didn’t think today’s game was that bad, relatively speaking. He rode Joe because he had a great first half(even though he stunk in the second half)...ok, fine.

AG was in foul trouble and MD and QG stunk early on, so he gave Braswell and two centers a crack and they all stunk, so he went away from it...no problem.

It’s the weird postgame comments that makes it seem like he’s knocking one of his best players just to go at some message board poster who calls into talk radio that made it a weird show from JB today.

It's simple really. No Center. No true PF 6'9 or higher. It's the mistake of playing best players over simple height and bumping to expose taller opponents.

Need 6'7 6'9 6'10 in the backline with someone 6'9 or above (instead of Q/Griff) in the mid low post up. Taller better good teams will have 4-5 mismatches most of the game (odd man out is guard) and then take and make chances with guys who usually can't shoot because they beat us on defense and get easier looks. I just described the Clemson game.

How a 6'9 215-pound mobile big who can take charges at PF isn't on the floor, when our 7-foot soph and 6'11 Fresh cant play center at all, is perplexing. Watching him not post up and instead run screen and roll's when he can't handle the ball is even crazier. All he has to do is sit on the low block and let Marek, Q, Buddy, and Kadary/Joe play 4 on 4 for 6 out of 7 possessions; and try to tip the ball back in with inside position 44% of the time, and outside rebounding position on long 3's. Even with 14mpg at forward Q and Griff would still get 33 mpg each.

Yes we have a roster full of ( twigs ) and ( tweeners ) who lack multi skills. The recruiting has been very bad the last 4 years mainly due to the loss of Hopkins and talented HS. kids due not want to play for JB. as they did in the past ,the zone defense does not appeal to them if they have a future in playing professional ball and Jim's 6 1/2 man rotation is known throughout the college basketball world, not to mention his moody demeanor and his famous dog house in which a few current players are residing in. I really do not see many of our players drastically improving their skills from year to year and to me that reflects on the whole coaching staff, these problems are very likely to continue until father blindness exits the program for good.
