Who’s our third guard right now? Copeland? Yikes.
Is cope really that different? What did symir offer other than “experience?” Couldnt score, struggled to run the offense, was a okay defender but got cooked by anyone with a half decent handle. Dude was a run of the mill guy. That’s nothing bad, still better than 99% of the population, but I wouldn’t call him a loss.

Forgot about him too, but I am ok with that and even ok if they roll the dice on another HS guard to replace him since he was only a spot duty role player. Thought he would have been more in his 2nd year on the hill last year.
I thought he would’ve too, strange player, at times he looked like a legit high level pg, next time down the floor you’re wondering if he was a team manager who had to suit up because we ran out of players.

There are a few truths wrapped into a small window of time with the current situation.

The first is that yes we need to give Red a chance to rock and roll.

Secondly, because of the unique aspect of a carryover of the staff this summer becomes so important in the ability to validate the selection of this talent and get them ready and locked in with clear improvements.

Last - the recruiting for 24 must land well too. The superhuman task of doing this and the former is arguably unfair in a sense but it's also reality because it will have significant impacts on item 1 playing out as it needs to.
I’m willing to give Red 4 years, I’m ok with steady progression. Give me an NIT this year, tourney the next and after that let’s make some noise. Could it happen sooner? Sure, but Dan Hurley needed time, Red does too.

Not much different, but would trust Symir with the ball more. If JJ is our point guard we’re going to need someone who can take care of the ball behind him.

He isn’t a good defender, did you watch them play any other games than the ones he played against us?

Averaged 11 points on a team that won 11 games, three ACC wins…….
So what?

Good players play for bad teams all the time.

Also, has it been mentioned that he was a freshman last year?

Can't wait until he has a bad game this year and you're tooting your own horn, too.

Why the vendetta? Are you really an SU fan? He was a highly sought after recruit and had a pretty good freshman year. He has a chance to be much better than that. Why not be excited?

Not belittling any kid, just need to see results.
Well, yeah.

My point is we replace players every year, just like every college BB team. And you typically replace players with better track records with unproven players. When we do that, I'm good with taking players like Starling and Westry given their pedigree. I'm also ok with transfers from smaller conferences if they can play.

I'd also say the ceiling for both Starling and Westry is higher than the guards who left. Unproven guys with high ceilings is exactly where Red should be focused.

Tooting my own horn? I’ve never once blasted anyone with an I told you so even though I could’ve countless times.

Vendetta? Really a fan? Lol, because I want us to be great and don’t think he is the answer?

I don’t root against our players, I don’t wish bad on our players and never will. Weak ass post.

I too am worried about getting a Big. I kept seeing people say here there’s plenty of time, but there’s really not. There’s a dearth of talent at Center in the portal and there’s only a few days left for new entries. I’m worried we might end up with Hima/Maliq at center. Or of course maybe they have it under control, but I just haven’t heard anything to make me comfortable yet. It’s a vastly different team with Judah and a quality center.

Remember this post. Our coaches would take Copeland every day of the week over Symir and twice on Sunday. He might start
I love his energy on both sides of the ball, not saying I wouldn’t take him over Symir because I would.

If he starts, I’ll be rooting for him to take us to the next level.

I personally think he played with more effort than anyone else on the roster last season.

Countless?

When Carey morphs into Keith Van Horn, you’re going to hear about it!
Hey! I haven’t said anything about him! All I know whomever he becomes isn’t going to be what we saw in his high school videos. He moves really well, but no idea what he is yet.

I think you guys are way too bearish. There’s a surplus of good players in the portal who are waiting to see what other guys do.
I believe a bunch of big guys are waiting for Dickinson to "set the market." You see it a lot in free agency, where the best guy signs and then everybody else domino effects from there.

Some guys might even enter the portal after seeing how much Dickinson is going to get.

This squad, as is, is so freaking young. There is tons of potential, but very little proven production. Even if Judah comes back, he will just be a sophomore, too. The team could be pretty good, but I can't imagine, as constructed, this team is going to be consistent.

When Starling was trash at ND I figured he’d be here in a NY minute.

11 points a game while playing injured is "trash"?
How few freshman guards have we ever had who scored double figures as freshmen?
Ten, maybe, in the last 50 years? It might be less than that.

Sub 65% free throw shooter, sub 30% from three, more turnovers than assists, rebounding non existent, not even a steal a game.

Sorry, awful year, Joe never had a year even close to that.

Jesse good riddance, Joe was awful, though amirite?

Defense matters, right? Isn't that why we've been pretty awful these past few years - playing slow footed offense-first players, and forcing them to play a zone scheme they can't execute?

Jesse wasn't as good offensively as he should have been to be a featured offensive option. His footwork with his back to the basket is poor. Facing the basket, he is like an Anthony Davis kind of player, diving to the rim. He's a very good shot blocker, but not strong enough to defend the low post against a bigger, more physical guy.

Jesse was like "half a great player". That makes him a useful tool for a good team, but he's not a "star" by himself.
