Judah Mintz to test NBA Draft waters

So? There’s about a 100 mock drafts. Most no different than you or I doing a mock draft. Only a few have any insight at all to what an NBA team might do. Plus they haven’t even had the combine yet.
and the ones with sources get used by those sources to push agendas.

So this should be easy then for the resident NBA scouts ... how many players have stayed in school for an extra year to come back, increase their draft stock from a marginal 2nd rounder/UFA, and capitalized on that to get a better draft slot, avoid the G league and slide into a 8-10 year job.
Looking at freshman that put their names in the draft pool and then ultimately withdrew in recent years (dating back to 2016):

There have been 5 players to withdraw from the draft and ultimately get selected in the first round later on as far as I can tell:
  • Tre Mann
  • Quentin Grimes
  • Obi Toppin
  • PJ Washington
  • Caleb Swanigan
I don't believe any of them had particularly high draft stock at the time when they withdrew. Grimes was expected to be like a lottery pick as a freshman but was ultimately a disappointment and I think had to rebuild his draft stock with his strong sophomore season to get back into the first round. Andrew Nembhard was also the first pick of the second round, so he nearly qualified.

A few recent examples that went the other way:
  • Rawle Alkins - I believe was projected to go around with Judah currently is, maybe earlier. Ultimately returned for his sophomore season and went undrafted.
  • Jontay Porter - He was a projected 1st round pick. Ultimately returned to school and went undrafted.
  • Yet to be drafted, but Terquavion Smith was a projected 1st round pick last year and is currently all over the place; the consensus big board has him at #29 right now but I've seen reputable mocks with him dropping as far as the 50s. Likewise, Harrison Ingram was on the fringe of the first round last year and has now transferred to UNC to try to rebuild his draft stock after showing modest at best improvements this season.
  • Marcus Bagley was a projected late 1st or early 2nd round pick after his freshman season; after returning, he has played in 5 games the last two years and I do not believe he is really viewed as a draftable prospect anymore.

I think some underestimate this.

Everyone isn’t sitting around waiting for you to be good, and teams don’t care about all these guys in the same way. The ones they’ve invested more in are the ones they care about more. Your G League teammates are fighting for the same thing you are, too.

If you’re banking on clawing your way up from the G League, you better be at the top of your game.
College bball players get the benefit of publicity which does make a difference, just ask Malachi.
G league players only make it on performance. I think our guys gone but another year of SU National exposure sure wouldn't hurt. As to injury, players insure against that.

Good research. Thanks for that. And they're part of a cohort of probably 600-800 potential draftees over that time. That's less than 2% and it's 50/50 if it helps or hurts. I stand by my statement that most of these guys are known quantities and there might be one or two each season who can help themselves, but generally there's not much benefit. I do think that if there is a sense of the draft being loaded, there is benefit to skipping one and putting into next.

Kid deciding what’s best for himself to realize lifelong dream > my interest in watching a season of Syracuse CBB

(I want to watch us play good basketball and Judah is good at basketball… but perspective is good)
I really enjoy watching Judah play basketball. And that is my primary reason for wanting him to come back to Syracuse. If he doesn't, it will be at least 3 years before he likely plays meaningful minutes in an NBA game, and even that's not certain. But if he decides that is his best path the the NBA then next man up. We've had worse backcourts than Chase, JJ and Q.

Can the NBA adopt 30 college universities as de facto G League teams?

Those 30 teams can be split up amongst the various P5 conferences, as long as those selected teams agree to play X number of games against each other.

%k that; I’m a Cuse fan and want to see the team at its most talented. Pay Judah and if we don’t have the NIL resources, then we can’t compete at this level.
Do you think Duke fans felt the same way about Filipowski and Whitehead when they were deciding about the draft? I bet they want to see the best possible Duke team next year.

This is partly why I don't care about fans.

Well the rumor is Filipowski didn’t declare because he was injured and the same may happen to Whitehead, but whatever.

Yeah - I agree. The key is that it's his decision and my opinion on what he should do is hopelessly colored orange.

So people come here because they care about the fans not the program?? That's a new one.
Sorry I don’t understand your post. I think people post on fan message boards to get the reaction and opinions of other fans about the program.

They post to interact, get updates you won't get elsewhere and share thoughts. Caring about what other fans feel is not the M.O... at least not mine.

Eh, yeah. This is dumb.

I want to see the team at it's most talented too. I'm rooting for him to come back, obviously. But I like to temper my life long Syracuse obsession with a little objectivity and understanding that what this kid wants and what I want might be different. And that it's his life.

You can't force Judah to come back. Writing a blank check vs fmv is not a failure in terms of being competitive with NIL funds.

I mean, if your interacting, that means you care what other fans think. Everything you read is a fans opinion, along with every interaction.

Addicted to debating SU sports- call it what you want but personally I wouldn't claim it's caring what most fans think.

Which really is only tangential the original comment about whose priorities are seen as more important
