I think Flip knew he was not going lottery and wanted to take his chances against what is supposed to be a weaker draft.Well the rumor is Filipowski didn’t declare because he was injured and the same may happen to Whitehead, but whatever.
The big issue is fans will still lose interest if the roster is a complete turnover every year. NIL has to prioritize retaining key players. Losing out to the draft is one thing, but the Jesse situation rightfully sounds major alarms because other schools consistently find ways to bring their guys back. What is the issue here? Assuming we keep getting high level talent, this is likely going to be the norm.

Now sure, there can be some uptick in interest if the 1-year hired guns start winning, but it may feel more like a successful iteration of Boeheim's Army. It won't captivate the community like the pre-NIL era did. I want players who want to wear a Syracuse jersey because they love the campus, the tradition, the women, the parties, the coaching staff and teammates. Seems like any major talents that come here now are just looking at the paycheck and the number of zeros.
If any of those 7 guys left for "greener" pastures, I don't think the board would be melting down like we were about Jesse and Judah. Roster turnover is inevitable, and in some cases it's necessary to clear out dead weight. But a successful team is built around 1 or 2 key players returning to build momentum. Fans love it when a star player returns and helps them connect with the team. It's anyone's guess if our donors will be able to fight off other NIL offers as we move forward. Total uncertainty and chaos. We're bringing back Bell, JT, Brown, Hima, Carey, Benny and Q (I think all of those guys). Seven guys.

But I heard you can’t improve by coming back to college.I think Flip knew he was not going lottery and wanted to take his chances against what is supposed to be a weaker draft.
“Correctly”.I don’t know how we got to the point where correctly pointing out that a kid should come back to school to improve his draft position means you are a selfish jerk who only cares about his favorite team, but here we are.

One has a chance at winning a championship. The other is just trying to get back into the tournament. But I heard you can’t improve by coming back to college.
Seriously, a fringe lottery pick is coming back but our late second rounder is most likely gone for a stellar career in the g league. Only Syracuse.
Agree 100%. That is why I still have no idea why they did what they did to weistsman. He talked about bringing in money all the time and he brought a lot of good publicity and stars that would never be here into the wireless dome%k that; I’m a Cuse fan and want to see the team at its most talented. Pay Judah and if we don’t have the NIL resources, then we can’t compete at this level.
Do you think Duke fans felt the same way about Filipowski and Whitehead when they were deciding about the draft? I bet they want to see the best possible Duke team next year.
Yep. And he’s also paid well in college so not leaving nearly as much on the table as he would have in the past. One has a chance at winning a championship. The other is just trying to get back into the tournament.
And I think this is a big thing. Syracuse isn’t just one piece (Judah) or two (J + center) from top-10/national championship. One has a chance at winning a championship. The other is just trying to get back into the tournament.
Excellent job of research by you. First, I don’t know if you got the sarcasm that I had in the second sentence. Second, as far as Oshae goes the path he took is by far the hardest. Undrafted guys don’t usually stick around the league. One could easily make the argument that had he returned, and gotten better, he might have gotten drafted, made significantly more guaranteed money and had the skills to stick around in the league longer, and possibly get the much sought after huge second contract. I mean Toronto let him go and unfortunately it’s not like he is a centerpiece in Indiana.“Correctly”.
its your opinion.
reminder, you said this...
”Everyone still think it was a good idea for Oshae to leave after he regressed as a sophomore? Because no guys ever get better and improve their draft stock. Absolute shame. He is an nba athlete and could’ve stuck if he was more polished and skilled.”

Man being good at basketball is lucrative. He's barely good enough to get a long look, but still guaranteed 300k. If he doesn't make it, he pockets that and goes to Europe to make only 150k... At 22 years old without a degree. Invest wisely, Oshae, and you'll never have to have a "real job"...syracusefan.com
He didn’t get beat up this year. He won’t get beat up next year when we have better talent. And I think this is a big thing. Syracuse isn’t just one piece (Judah) or two (J + center) from top-10/national championship.
Does he really want to come back to a fringe team and get beaten up by much stronger programs?
Undrafted sophomores and juniors don't stick around the league either. The vast majority of players don't.Undrafted guys don’t usually stick around the league. One could easily make the argument that had he returned, and gotten better, he might have gotten drafted,
Stick around longer? He’s still in the league. You were wrong when you said he was out in 2021 and you are doubling down? Also, He could have stayed 20 years at Syracuse and he would have never been a “centerpiece” for an nba team.Excellent job of research by you. Bringing this back to Judah, if I were him, and I had a choice of being undrafted and trying out for my supper, or returning to Syracuse and trying to improve my draft stock, I would choose the latter. Now, if the feedback was I would be going in the second round but I got a guarantee that I would get picked or I could go back to Syracuse, I would pick the latter. If I got a first round guarantee, I would go to the nba because the guarantees would be significant as would the investment by the general manager, who would be more likely to give him time to develop.
I know a little bit more than nothing about what drives him, you might be surprised. I’d be shocked if he comes back.Stick around longer? He’s still in the league. You were wrong when you said he was out in 2021 and you are doubling down? Also, He could have stayed 20 years at Syracuse and he would have never been a “centerpiece” for an nba team.
He could have came back and sat in the zone and never improved his shooting and defense.
Everything is a hypothetical...which is the point. We dont know. saying ”this is the right move” and “if I were him“ is pointless stuff. You aren’t and you don’t know what drives him. Neither do I. Let’s just hope he comes back so that our program is better.
