Didn't see a post game thread...

Orange as usual greatly represented in the arena. NC State had a smattering at best. Great to see OrangeinDC even though his knowledge of hoops is suspect at best - the guy knew half our section.

DJ Burns is rather nimble and light on his feet. But he's not THAT nimble. Burns ending the day with one personal foul was a disgrace. That plus the two quickies on Bell really hampered us. Taylor has the yips, feel bad for the guy. Hopefully he solved it at his next stop.

That being said NC State's ability to basically do whatever - nine fouls was an absolute joke - really got in our heads. And JM and Q up close really act out more than the others.

Speaking of Q lets please stop with the he's the PG next year. He isn't. We will get a portal PG who is a Red Autry type guard. JM will not be here next season. 12 turnovers by those two - and a lot seemed to come of their being frustrated - speaks for the outcome.

JJ desperately needs to look for his more. Maliq is so so so steady. Cuffe played hard, good defense in his moments.

This team needs more basketball like that and less other stuff. Confident we will have that in year two of Red.

this was always a team super vulnerable to how the game was called...for obvious reasons. lack of shooting lack of post scoring.

once NC state realized they could get away with contact they did it every time

IMO their frustration was justified but they gotta find a way to overcome the BS...as soon as they let the emotions overcome them the game was toast. gotta play chess not checkers...

these refs are not good people. they dont care about these guys at all....gotta take it for what it is...refs shouldnt be able to have such an impact on a game...its honestly disgraceful. and makes me question why I bother watching tbh.

Quadir is easily the pg next yr. Played like garbage tonight, but he was our best player on many occasions this sesson. And Maliq cannot guard anyone bigger than him in the post

I’d also like to say that Q’s abilities on defense have been greatly overstated on this forum.

Judah was down after he got raked. And down for a while when the game went to a TV TO. He said something to the ref - and normally within his rights considering he got it in the eye - and that dude T-ed Judah up with glee.

Burns was elbows up and out all game, one foul.

Really enjoyed our seats. Just wanted a crack at Duke. Feeling so emo right now.

I don’t think Judah would have gotten T'ed if he didn’t drop so many bombs to the ref when explaining what happened. He lost his cool and the profanity flowed and he was shouting at the ref.

Burns didn't pick up fouls because Brown doesn't look to shoot or dribble and he's too fat and slow to rotate to help on anyone else. He should've probably picked up 1 or 2 offensive fouls for throwing his shoulder into Brown though.

R/confidentlywrong

He isn’t even the backup PG this year

Agree that his fouls were on offense if they were to be called

We can't have 9 more turnovers and 9 fewer offensive rebounds. We shot a higher percentage and three point shooting was basically a wash, but they had 8 more fg attempts. Teams that play better in the paint tend to draw more fouls and that explains some of the discrepancy there.

We were a soft team this year. Next year we need to be tougher. Do we have anyone on this team that can intimidate? If not, can we get someone?

If we don’t land a portal transfer or two of some muscle down low capable of offense rebounding and defending, we won’t be successful next year. Rebounding and outside shooting are our top priorities. Expect more of the same if Red doesn’t address those deficiencies

If he’s our PG next year, we’re in trouble.

I can’t take 30 minutes of him handling the rock and making ridiculous decisions. He’s fine taking it from time to time but you can’t win with play like that consistently.

You know my biggest gripe with ACC refs this year? That they didn't T-up Judah in January as many times as it took to get him to knock it off. Instead, his complaining to the refs persisted all year - he got less and less calls as they hated him more and more - and then when it didn't matter anymore he got the T.

If someone's complaining too much, don't screw them (and their teammates) by calling every close spot against the player in question. T him up as needed, and call the game fairly.

Unless, he gets a three-point shot and can play under control, things that he has yet to demonstrate, Quadir is not good enough to be the staring point guard on an NCAA tourney team and assuming that is what SU wants to be, he cannot be the starting pg.

Really want to see Brown develop this part of his game and a mid-range shot so that when he's got someone who's way to slow, he can pull them out from the basket, dribble past them and draw help and set up someone else. Easier said than done, I guess, but he seems to have the athleticism to do it.

Brown has to become a threat. He has to drive and use his quickness to get to the rim.

Yeah. If he has the tools, he needs to be more assertive. Some guys don't have that kind of personality though. Hopefully, he can develop it. He passed up lots of open shots or opportunities to try to beat his guy with a one or two dribble move this year. Even if he's going to be a pass first guy, he needs to at least threaten that he may shoot.

To be honest, Maliq has very little offensive game outside of within 2 feet and the one-off 3’s at the top of the key. He doesn’t even look to shoot 95% of the time making the team easier to defend.

He has a lot of intangibles and does some things really well but he can’t guard in the paint and isn’t an offensive threat. He needs to develop some kind of back to the basket game and be willing to take mid range shots.

We need to be bigger.

Glad you brought up the officiating getting in their heads. You can say they have to keep playing but I don't know how you overcome that when you can't do anything on offense. 2 defensive fouls in the 2nd half (+1 in garbage time). 202 committed. Who knows if they would have won but that changed everything.
