It‘s not really sportsmanship though. These guys hate shaking hands if they lose. We see it with our guy, K, Dixon….etc

I go to every home game and all the coaches talk with each other before the game. Same with the players. That’s enough for me. Surprised someone hasn’t done this already and frankly I’m surprised someone like K hasn’t been decked before. He’s the worst loser of them all.
It's pretty amazing when u think about it. Watch two UFC guys or two professional boxers after a fight where they've beaten the crap out of each other. Almost all of the time they hug each other after the fight and show their respect. They know getting in the ring or octagon takes guts so there is usually a mutual respect. But yet somehow asking two coaches of college kids to shake hands is a burden. Nuts.

K is the original two-face on this. When he wins, he makes it a point to have short discussions with players on the opposing team. When he loses, he runs through the line in a hurry. Didn't he skip at least part of the line one of the times we beat him at Cameron?

plenty of fights where they don’t shake hands. its not a mandatory task...which is the point of his post

Conor vs Khabib the most obvious where hand shaking most certainly didn’t take place (or Conor vs Porier)

Let’s be honest, the only way Howard gets fired is if UM was already considering it b/c they aren’t happy with his coaching. Then this is an easy excuse to do it and look like the university is taking the high road. If he won a national championship last year it wouldn’t matter what he did, there’d be zero question he’d be coaching and just face some sort of disciplinary action.
Yeah I don’t think it’s the obvious slam dunk some think here regardless of HR laws.

Very true. At least our guy is consistent. He blows through the line in a hurry, win or lose.

Several players need to be suspended too. It’s hard to tell without slowing it down just who all threw punches but #14 on Michigan was definitely one.
Absolutely agree, the Michigan players really escalated the matter. They were invthere throwing haymakers.
I have no problem with him being upset and calling out Gard in the line. You absolutely cannot throw a punch.
Gard seems like a real d'bag, but Howard is off the rails.

Whether boxing or UFC the combatants are brought into the center of the ring while the official decision (KO or not) is announced and the winning fighter's hand is raised. It is a very rare instance when they don't show mutual respect. In fact almost al of the time they shake hands before the ref raises somebody's hand. My point is if those guys who are trying to knock the opponent into the middle of next week can shake hands then it seems like two college coaches should be able to as well.

No, I get your point. you don’t seem to get the other side. I don’t believe anyone is suggesting that college coaches shouldnt be able to shake hands. The same way two nfl qbs should shake hands...yet Brady didn’t shake Foles hand...because it’s not mandatory. that’s all. agreed it would be nice if every one could show general sportsmanship.

Yes.

And the parallel to the NBA not having a mandatory line... it's a little different. There are so many relationships across teams in the NBA that they usually go much further than a compulsory limp handshake line. Which is 'a good message for the kids.' I always think Lebron looks like a petulant child when he quickly leaves the court without exchanging pleasantries, while the contrast is so clear, and everyone else is out there hugging.

I was initially responding to a post that suggested the hand shake line should be discontinued.

Time to dump the handshake line. Most of the time it’s just the Dixon blow by anyway. These coaches just have too big of egos.
Phil Esposito always said he hated the handshake line at the end of an NHL playoff series. "I just finished a series against a guy who tried to take my head off and now I have to shake his hand? Just go into the lockerroom and see ya next year."

Looked to me like he refused to shake Gard's hand.
Which is his right if he feels that the other coach did something dirty. Let me be clear, Howard was wrong. However, and a big however, Wiscy coach confronted an already angry man and that's what often happens when you do that. Not surprising.
