Kadary Richmond...

Not sure. JB moved Hal Cohen to the bench for Eddie Moss. And that is a pretty good comparison. He moved Allen Griffin to the bench for Tony Bland. Jb wants to win. And he knows the game. And his vision isn't gone yet.
I think this is spot on. Anyone who isn't blind knows that JB is a big fan of JGIII. HOWEVER, anyone who knows anything about JB knows that he 1) wants to win more than anything else, 2) understands the importance of having a starting five that plays together a lot in order to develop--through repetitions--their ultimate potential as a team, and 3) knows how good his top-of-the-zone defense has to be in order for his teams to beat the best opponents.

Joe has 2-3 more games to 'fix what's broken' before Buddy comes back, but if he can't, I'd be amazed to see Jim stick with him in the starting lineup after then. If Joe can get his dead-eye shooting back real soon, he can probably keep the starting slot, but if not, he'll have to help us off the bench this year, and that will be no small contribution to the success of this team...

The question is CuseMan4 - when Buddy gets back .. will Kadary get those kind of minutes?

Buddy deserves 30 minutes, but only if he plays defense. His performance against Bryant was abysmal.

If Buddy is out for 2 weeks for isolation, then there are 3 more games without him, and he'll be back for Buffalo. Game on for who is going to win the other starting guard spot - Joe or Kadary. right now, Kadary has the lead going into game 3 out of a 5 game audition.

So in some fictitious world that does not yet exist, JGIII, if he fundamentally changes the way he plays and how much he plays (which I agree with, btw), he can get to be an elite three point shooter?

I mean... a lot of people are tying themselves up in pretzels to get him to some sort of elite status.

True Shooting takes into consideration FTs. His TS% still stinks.

But, he worked out with Jimmer Fredette.

I am still a Joe fan. We need him this year. These two games don't change that for me. Heck, game 1 he made 2 huge shots. Certainly a competitor. Overall it has not been great yet. Regardless, we need a third guard to play minutes!

Yes, he can. hit big shots. But we don't need. him shooting 10-15 three's a game. Five to seven is plenty. Spread the shots around. There are a lot of good athletic players on this team, and frankly, Buddy's the better 3 point shooter.

16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocked shots

Niagara stinks, but this kid needs to play at LEAST 20 minutes per game.

EDIT: Only 8 players in D1 since 2010-11 (nearly a decade) have put together that stat line:

Ben Simmons (1st Round NBA Pick - LSU)
DeAndre Bembry (1st Round NBA Pick - St. Joe's)
Marcus Smart (1st Round NBA Pick - Okla. State)
Chris Singleton (1st Round NBA Pick - Florida State)
Delon Wright (1st Round NBA Pick - Utah)
Phlandrous Fleming (Charleston Southern - Big South Defensive Player of the Year)
Michael Weathers (Miami OH - MAC Freshman of Year; Transfer to Okla. State, now at Texas Southern)
Stan Okoye (VMI - Big South Player of the Year)
We tried to warn ya’ll that this kid was gonna be very good. Wait til we get to the ACC portion of the schedule.

I'd imagine that Joe is hearing footsteps [as hard to envision as that might have been heading into the season].

Really, what a difference having a kid who is actually a point guard and sees the floor like one, instead of those combos we're always trying to convert.

Richmond has some holes in his game [outside shooting appears suspect at this stage], but he's going to play. A lot.
The funny thing is: JB didn’t know what he had before Kadary stepped foot on campus. In the off-season, he told Matt Guterriez at the Athletic that Richmond would play guard and small forward (??) and maybe some PG. He said they’d wait to see if he was a PG or not. Then a month or month and a half ago, after watching him in practice a bunch, JB said he might be one of the best freshman PGs we’ve ever had. He recently said he only saw him play once in high school! From the Brewter games I watched online from late in their prep season, KR’s talent and PG skills were readily apparent and and it was clear what a huge impact the kid would have on the team this year. Thank you Allen Griffin and Red.

I love how posters act like they are the one who discovered KR and offered him a scholarship

I hear ya. Almost as good as so many having the rotation figured out after two games. And especially after the game against the team that has like three guys taller than this threads namesake. I'm just happy that most are being reasonable, and I'm not seeing Buddy being thrown under the bus as much as anticipated.

Unfortunately, it seems that Joe leapt in front before it was possible. Though, I do agree with the notion that JG should be the one right now taking a step back for KR to get more time. I know JB won't do it, but Joe could look great as a 6th man scorer. It may take a good amount of pressure off of him as well, but I trust JB to figure this one out over myself.

Regardless, JB can't hide Kadary much longer. In the hopes of keeping him a secret until next season, a la MCW, and Dion. Granted, he's probably the worst-kept secret we've had since Wes.

Yes I realize the competition, but along with everyone else, very impressed with Kadary last night. How many freshman point guards have played that many minutes and not had one time where they did something so crazy that my blood pressure went crazy? Not many.

He wasn't perfect, but he was very in control and didn't have any mistakes that were so egregious that I can think of them right off the top of my head.

VERY interesting to see where we're at when Buddy returns, and what JB does with his guard minutes then.

Yes, they played short and less-skilled Niagara, but Kadary sure looked able to at least split minutes with our starting guards IMHO. Based on performance, adjustments to minutes and potential lineup changes could then follow.

Non-HOF coach take: playing 30 vs 40" should help Buddy/JGlll by raising their governors a bit. I hear the "they're young, and look at all the breaks they get for TV timeouts"-etc arguments that 40" is OK, but still think there's subconscious self-preservation by players who are NOT elite athletes playing 40" every game.
Nothing against Buddy/JGlll -just a perspective that their physical/size challenges specifically on D could be addressed partly by playing more "amped-up", knowing they will get to the bench/rest accordingly.

I know he got called for a double dribble on this play, but that one hesitation move he pulled was purely filthy. He also had another hesitation move that led to a layup and boy did that windmill spin layup look sweet. Very smooth player with an offensive game similar to Billy Edelin.

I do...not as quick but extremely similar style/build

Not whatsoever. Crawford is a great shooter and scorer, and less of a PG. For style, I go way back...Clyde. Big for his position, goes to the hole whenever he wants, great orchestrator and disher, and extremely disruptive with his hands on defense. Very good mid ranger shooter who seems to move with an efficiency and purpose.

I could never play if someone was actually in the vicinity of guarding me but I did hit 52 FTs in a row hanging in the gym.
Instead of Toga , you should be goaT

Joe can do a lot of damage as an elite shooter off the bench. I’m really curious how JB handles it... it seems so obvious
I agree but I am not sure Joe's shooting is elite. Last year and small sample size this year .... I don't know. I think he will be fine once his minutes are cut and he further embraces his role as facilitator. Effort and improvement - he will never be the defender that Richmond is.

the three of them spit the 80 minutes, what’s so hard about that?

this is the way
Uh, I think you meant
80 minutes, the three they split.

May the force be with you

Another thing I noticed with Kadary is hes not crazy fast but I think he's one of those guys who has that change of pace thing going on and is hard to guard. Very good ball handling skills and looks have good body control/positioning when driving to the hoop etc. I'm trying to think of a good player comparison for him but I'm struggling...who has one? Let's hear em!

I said it after Game 1 - I see a lot of Billy Edelin in his game. Not super athletic but gets in the lane almost at will. Looks like he is moving in slow motion but no one can really stop him from getting to his spot. Great feel. Not much of a jumper. Seems to be a far better defensive presence that Edelin ever was though, and he seems a lot longer than Billy as well
