Kansas Can, SU Couldn't Postgame Thread

If it is by points we may not be in the bottom as we will be one of the higher ranked 0-2 teams as we didnt really get blown out.
yeah this point margin nonsense has to go. what ever happened to good sportsmanship ? i can remember Q getting lit up by the coaches for stealing the ball at the buzzer. just dribble out the clock and shake hands like decent people should.

Kiyan had an awful game no doubt, but he’s a freshman. Those games are gonna happen. However, all of the other players who are older and much more experienced (JJ), there’s no excuse.
As Al McGuire said many years ago “The best thing about Freshmen is that they become Sophmores.” Playing against Houston and Kansas in your 4th and 5th games in college is a tough transition. Anthony, and White to a lesser degree, will have major growing pains and hopefully around mid-season they will adjust to the point they contribute majorly to the team.

Team needs to do some soul searching. The played hard yesterday but were clearly flat today. Every loss vs a top team is a missed opportunity. They need to dig deep and win the next two. I feel the next two could make or break the season. They will either find themselves or set a standard of being good but not quite good enough to beat quality teams.

I really hope they take their next opponent to the woodshed. That would be a good sign. All bets are off if we drop the next one.
Kansas played in an earlier game yesterday and had a pretty easy time. We played later, against probably the best team in the tourney who plays really hard and we went to OT. It took a lot out of us.

Pointing to headThey are going to be like 7 and 24 no thanks
Yeah but we can be one of the 24

Yep, looks like he was really enjoying watching Council (from Rochester?????) drain 10 FT's in a row while we go -20 on the glass, 7 for 30 from 3 and 13 of 23 from the line. We have lots of athletic talent but so far we're the "gang that couldn't shoot straight"
Council was 3-15 from the floor. He’s not an answer. He did go 7-8 from the line.

Guys we are going to win alot in the acc.
Winning a lot in the ACC won’t get us in the tourney. We missed out on the Houston win. Couldn’t capitalize vs. a wounded Kansas team. Will get trounced by Tennessee.

This tourney was there for 2 wins. And we failed to capitalize. This, along with 0 signature OOC wins, will keep us out of the NCAA tournament.

We will be fine. Good training with a big man down situation. The pieces are there. We have to get shooting worked out. But these guys get after it
We’re much better, but we have to find a way to beat good teams. If close loses stack up - which is possible given our free throws and likely inability to protect a late game lead - we wont make it. Need to win the next two or it’s uphill

So much not to like.
-Perhaps the biggest play of the game was when Souare could not get the rebound when we were down 4. Red has said he will play a lot of guys but with a little over 5 minutes left Kansas had their best guys in and we didn't.
-Kiyan cannot be firing up 12 shots, many of which were far behind the three point line and early in the shot clock. He should have been taken out when he stayed down after getting blocked but suddenly was healthy enough to shoot another long three. Bad look for Red. Kiyan's defense was also exploited by Kansas.
-I don't know what JJ brings to the table. Not good shot selection or defense. Betsey, while is he kind of like a better Chris Bell (not a huge compliment), at least can shoot and we would be better off with him starting over JJ.
-Whoever started the insipid thread asking whether/arguing we are better without Donnie should be ashamed of themself. We missed Donnie's scoring and rebounding desperately.
-Kingz needs to get more shots but a couple of his missed threes were huge and he needs to shoot well for us to win. His defense is excellent and for him to play less minutes than JJ is absurd.
-So nice to have a big who dunks and plays hard but you have to feel for Kyle. Any smart coach will foul him when they are in the penalty which will greatly limit his usefulness.
-2 turnovers and we lose by 11. Shaking my mf head.
-It is bad enough that we are not shooting well but our shot selection was awful today. Red cannot let that happen.
Agree 100% with every one of your points. Soare was playing well (for him) until he got out of position and gave up the offensive rebound. I thought we were only down 2 at that time.

Rutgers, Creighton, UNLV, or San Diego St are the potential opponents tomorrow per Matt Park.
We’re ahead of Creighton based on point differential (-15 vs -25). SDSU lost by 40 (capped at 20). My guess is they lose to Oregon. If they lose by more than 5 they will play Rutgers as the bottom two teams. If UNLV gets blown out by Bama we could get bumped up to play the lowest rated 1-1 team (who knows who that will be).

So are we back or not? I missed the game so I'm not sure if this particular loss also means we are good.

Jeez, relax. It’s not even Thanksgiving

I am just not doing this "we competed, should have won" nonsense again. We've done that every year under Autry, and I'm done. And before you say "but we didn't do that last year", yes, it happened. Remember Tennessee? "We were with them most of the game without Starling on the road!"

If I'm pleasantly surprised at the end of the year then that's fine, but I think deep down everyone knows what will happen.

Depending on who our next opponent is a win may not help us as far as a resume goes, it might be one of those games where only a loss will hurts and a win does nothing for us.

The problem becomes that going winless in needle-moving non-con games makes the margin for error in conference play near zero. Especially when both were there for the taking. These opportunities are few and far between. Tournament teams get wins here, point blank.
Likely going to have to 13-5 in the ACC if we can’t beat Tennessee.
