Kansas Can, SU Couldn't Postgame Thread

Really frustrating. A lot of the same this game. Took a whole half to figure anything out. Red’s keeping his three timeouts in the first half while going down double digits was just infuriating.

Can’t take a whole half to wake up every 2 of 3 games. Hard to root with that.

Carmelo looks pissed.
Yep, looks like he was really enjoying watching Council (from Rochester?????) drain 10 FT's in a row while we go -20 on the glass, 7 for 30 from 3 and 13 of 23 from the line. We have lots of athletic talent but not a lot of shot-making skills ... guarded or unguarded.

Kyle is the least of our problems. He’s been our best player these two games. The perimeter guys have been horrible offensively outside of Betsey. Every single one of them.
But Kyle is a big problem. He looks at the FT line like a kid trying to get the ball near the basket by looking through his periscope eye and then misses terribly. Really surprised Autry hasn't worked with him - no offense today.

Guys, we are better in most ways than last year's team, but we have too many weaknesses (offensively challenged both at the line and off the line, mediocre rebounding, low bb IQ) to be a really good team. Some good talent but not enough overall talent to compete with the good/very good/great teams. Middle of pack ACC team at best. We may beat some teams we are underdogs in but will lose some games we are favored in. Disappointing to be sure but not really unexpected. Our sum talent (playing as a team) in less than our individual talent.

All of his previous coaches should be ashamed of themselves. Feels like this is fixable. This was my first time being able to watch this year. JJ’s hitch and Kyle shot were shocking. How does that happen?
Apparently nobody on this coaching staff cares about free throw shooting. How can you watch these guys in practice for 8 weeks and have guys look like this from the line? Hire a shot doctor and work hard at changing this. Really. Good grief.

Some of our fans acted like we were entitled to beat Kansas because we played Houston tight for some moral victory. This is why I was pissed we didnt finish it. We are dangerously close to being in a non-conference hole once again. we need to win out the non-conference games if we want any sort or comfort.

I just want us to make the tournament without sweating out the bubble. Is that too much to ask? Kiyan was awful today, and our shot selection was awful.
We played two tough teams with NBA players back to back. We stuck with both of them. I think we will be ok. It’s still very early in the season and we should get better as it goes. I think our tournament hopes should still be high.
We did this without Freeman as well and surely he’ll be back soon. Fingers crossed.

Good chance we play either Creighton or Rutgers on Thursday. They’re both 0-2. Only question is how many other 0-2 teams and whether we play tomorrow or Thursday.
I think we are going to play tomorrow, meaning we will draw a very good team. UNLV will play Thursday, along with Rutgers annd Creighton, UNLV are guaranteed to play that day because they won’t be top 4. Will help what will be a nightmare attendance day. If San Diego State loses to Oregon tonight they will probably be bottom 4 because they got crushed by Michigan last night. We will have another tough game tomorrow. So, if we lose that and Tennessee we are in a bad way

I continue to be impressed on the defensive side of the ball. That effort should keep them in most, if not all games. The obvious concern is the lack of shooting. Specifically Kingz and Kiyan need to start being much more consistent for this team to reach its potential. A must win game tomorrow.

Kiyan and Sadiq had the kinds of games i think we should have expected. They're freshmen in their first real college competition, going up against two top tier teams. They played like freshmen—not yet strong enough, not yet experienced enough to make good decisions. The talent is there, but they've been pushed into more minutes and significance than they're ready for at this early stage.

So much not to like.
-Perhaps the biggest play of the game was when Souare could not get the rebound when we were down 2. Red has said he will play a lot of guys but with a little over 5 minutes left Kansas had their best guys in and we didn't.
-Kiyan cannot be firing up 12 shots, many of which were far behind the three point line and early in the shot clock. He should have been taken out when he stayed down after getting blocked but suddenly was healthy enough to shoot another long three. Bad look for Red. Kiyan's defense was also exploited by Kansas.
-I don't know what JJ brings to the table. Not good shot selection or defense. Betsey, while is he kind of like a better Chris Bell (not a huge compliment), at least can shoot and we would be better off with him starting over JJ.
-Whoever started the insipid thread asking whether/arguing we are better without Donnie should be ashamed of themself. We missed Donnie's scoring and rebounding desperately.
-Kingz needs to get more shots but a couple of his missed threes were huge and he needs to shoot well for us to win. His defense is excellent and for him to play less minutes than JJ is absurd.
-So nice to have a big who dunks and plays hard but you have to feel for Kyle. Any smart coach will foul him when they are in the penalty which will greatly limit his usefulness.
-2 turnovers and we lose by 11. Shaking my mf head.
-It is bad enough that we are not shooting well but our shot selection was awful today. Red cannot let that happen.

I think we’ll end up either playing UNLV or Creighton on Thursday. But that’s an educated guess.

4-24 against Quad 1 teams... thats Autrys record as HC...
It’s time. We just gotta play out the string. I knew where we were going with Shafer. The same with Dino. And it’ll be the same for Red.
