Kneeling MLB Version

OrangeDW did you read the article I posted?
I read the article. You did not need to post it. Your point of view is not particularly complex or nuanced. You want your sports presented to you as if it’s in a bubble, separate from the social and political world. If you don’t get that, you won’t watch. I respect that. There are many things I don’t watch because they aren’t what I want.

Minorities have to deal with racism 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Why does the guy from FoxNews think he's entitled to a break for 3 hours? Why do any of us?

If you truly "pledge allegiance to the flag", you have to uphold the idea of "liberty and justice for all".

Can't have one without the other.

Well this thread should just get nuked as there can’t be debate if the argument racism exists 24/7.

I mean acknowledging that we still have a major race problem in this country is obvious. Saying the current President has used racism as a strategy to divide the country is obvious.

Why are all white people lumped together?
We have Irish, German, Italian, Middle Eastern, all different ethnic groups.
Just like all minorities shouldn’t be lumped together.

Middle Eastern immigrants who are classified as “white” left their homeland because Middle Eastern Christians faced slaughter from Islamic Ottoman Empire soldiers in their homeland. They fled their countries to survive why because they are white are lumped all together.

My mother’s uncle was sent home from school in the 1930s because he couldn’t speak English and told don’t come back till he could.

This previous message is so over the top and I blame it on Trump dividing the country along racial lines.

Minorities face a tougher time no doubt and that has to change. However all white people shouldnt be lumped together. The Irish faced discrimination, Italians faced discrimination. I get minorities got it worse but let’s have debates and find solutions.

Why is acknowledging racism political? It shouldn’t be.

I agree it isn’t political. Racism is real.
White people need to acknowledge it and fix things now.
The problem is who can actually fix it.

We need leaders who act in good faith and actually just want to heal the divisions.

I don’t like how all groups are just lumped together. Not all white people Should be lumped together.
Not all minorities should be lumped together.
There is white privilege in this country.
There is also green privilege in this country.

I just don’t like all groups of people lumped together with identity politics.

Are Christian Syrian Americans the same Protestant English Americans?

Are Catholic Irish Americans the same as Orthodox Greek Americans?

No.
Was Irish no need apply racist?

Racism is used for politics.
Being patriotic in this country is being politicized it’s a joke.
But racism doesn’t affect minorites 24/7 in this country if it does nuke the country. It’s been a 244 experiment.

I take issue with some of the thoughts in that Fox article. Here's the critical paragraph:

But I also think it’s fair to ask what would help our fractured country more right now? Bashing the police they count on to protect the stadiums where they earn millions to play a children’s game? Or giving us back a desperately needed piece of common culture?

It's a mischaracterization at best, and inaccurate judgment at worst, to equate the act of players kneeling to "bashing" the police. I can't really take the opinion writer seriously if they claim they don't want politics and division if in order to state their reasons why they have to sensationalize their reasons.

Also, what's the purpose in him making the comment about earning "millions to play a children's game?" The occupations of the people within MLB have no bearing on their freedoms to protest or have a voice. That statement has a bit of that "shut up and dribble" undertone. I do not like it one bit.

If Colin Kaepernick never wore pig cop socks then his message never gets warped to anti-police.

That action framed the narrative.

Police reform has been long overdue.

Right now our biggest problem is the President of the country only wants to be president for those like him and inflames the other side to cause chaos.

He has never from day one understood the President is just 1/3 of the government and he isn’t king.

Ehhhhhhhhhh I'm not really buying that Kaep's socks are in the zeitgeist to the extent that it means any kneeling equals "bashing" police.

I agree with the rest of what you posted

Maybe if society did something Instead of just ignoring racism we wouldn’t have protests?

How about, The Emancipation Proclamation, The Civil Rights Movement, ACLU, The Office of Minority Health, Affirmative Action, and the Southern Poverty Center. And I’m sure there are a bunch more organizations that reach out to minorities.

Maybe if you read the bio of Frederick Douglas or the books by black author Thomas Sowell, you’d see that the problem of racism is not what you believe it to be.

And what about the number of blacks and other ethnic groups that have gone from poverty to prospering in America? In business, government, education, sports, and the military, many blacks and minorities have achieved great heights in this country. Why didn’t racism affect their lives?

Now we're getting into the meat of things.

Why didn't racism affect the lives of blacks and other ethnic groups that went from poverty to prospering?

Answer - it has.

OrangeDW did you read the article I posted?

Yes. And I find the perspective where Bush being in Yankee stadium after 9/11(and I assume all the teams that wore things honoring the firefighters, NYPD, etc.) to be acceptable, but standing together to put an end to racism to be “divisive”.

It’s just a weird perspective to me. There’s nothing divisive or political about wanting racial equality. It’s beyond bizarre to me that even something like that, is now considered political and divisive.

That image hurt Kaepernick at the time.
It completely hurt his message. Made it anti police.

I'm a straight shooter.

Sports to me is an escape. They want to protest off the field have at it. I grew up in the 60s and 70s so I have different perspective than many of you.

We'll just agree to disagree. I've walked away from MLB.

I have more important things going on to deal with the next few months so it won't be missed.

It clearly hasn’t been enough for a lot of people.

The police broke into an innocent African American woman’s house and shot her a gazillion times in her bed and they still haven’t been fired so whatever we have done in the past doesn’t work.

We have a former AG that is supposedly in the “small government” party that is in favor of civil asset forfeiture when it comes to minorities and the “small government” types aren’t bothered by it. Hmmm.

Kelly read this if you are curious my stance... this is why I'm walking away from MLB. He pretty much nails it and as a vet of two conflicts I stand and pay respect to the flag.

Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time to post that article that explains how you feel about the protesting at games. Even though I don't agree I can appreciate your sentiment. I understand completely about wanting to disengage from the daily barrage of political insanity and infighting.

I'm so happy baseball is back that if the players want to make a statement for a few minutes before the game that doesn't bother me but I can understand why others find it off putting. Thanks for sharing.

At best, it certainly didn't help.
I get that.

I suspect if you polled people about what they know about Kaepernick the socks don't really rate, is what I'm getting at.

Left out a part in which they got fired at. I’m not saying it’s that simple but that’s not the full story.

The issue is the law in that one. No knock etc

Along w rockin’ a Fidel Castro shirt and praising him while a Cuban reporter was asking him questions.

And his gf posting on social media -comparing Ravens owner & Ray Lewis to slave owner & house n—, as they were trying to help him get back into the league.

Unfortunately, for all of us, Kap wasn’t the right messenger for the cause. He may have awareness on a micro level, but on a macro level, where solutions can be found, he’s ignorant.

And not for nothing, he sure has gotten paid and been in the spotlight ever since.

Don’t go in the house. It’s that simple. Stop making excuses.
So when fire is returned on an officer they are merely supposed to run away?

There is a lot of other instances in this case that we would probably agree with. Such as the time in between where apparently Taylor was alive.

Don’t go in the house and use common sense instead of being a meathead following a meathead law.
