LOS ANGELES - Syracuse University and Big East All-time leading scoring Lawrence Moten '95 will embark on a 5-city Meet-and-Greet tour all over New York state and Philadelphia. Lawrence got this idea after his trip to Atlanta for the Final Four where he felt the love from SU nation and wanted to meet more fans. He has always felt that fans contribute to a team's success. This tour will work around his trip to Syracuse for the school's Session 1 basketball camp and Fantasy Camp (Sun, June 23 to Sun, June 30) and a trip to NYC to coach in the NBA Developmental League tryouts. It will partner in some cities with Alumni clubs and some with baseball clubs.
On Saturday, June 1 in Los Angeles, Lawrence enjoyed a Meet-and-Greet presented by SoCalOrange, that included a Pop-a-Shot contest (a Busby's bartender destroyed the school's all-time leader and the school's leader in starts), brought out former Syracuse stars Brandon Triche and Stevie Thompsonand two LA Lakers beat writers from the school's Newhouse program, ESPN's Dave McMenamin and LA Daily News Mark Medina plus Jason Poles, an SU assistant athletic director. The day before was preceded by a visit to the SU in LA campus with VP Joan Adler followed by the privilege to attend a small intimate dinner with Syracuse University philanthropists George and Kathy Hicker and Howie and Louise Panstiel. On Sunday, Lawrence played pick-up basketball with a select number of SU alums and fans and provided a free clinic to youths in the area.
The next Meet-and-Greet will be on Saturday, June 15 in New York City from 5 to 9pm. It will immediately follow the conclusion of Lawrence's coaching duties in NYC's Basketball City. It will be held at"Stout" a location the local alumni club has used. It is located very close to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station convenient for fans and convenient for Lawrence to hop on the train back to DC to make it for Father's Day.
The following week on Saturday, June 22 on the way to Syracuse will be a Binghamton Mets game that will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Mase Madness. Discounted tickets will be available with a code for online or box office purchase and may be sold at select stores. A majority of the monies from those discounted tickets will go to those organizations, the rest to the Mets. Lawrence will throw out the first pitch, be available for a Meet-and-Greet and the evening will end with Fireworks night. Former Syracuse players and Binghamton residents Sonny Spera and Lazarus Sims have been invited.
On Thursday, June 26, Lawrence will throw out the first pitch for the Syracuse Chiefs and have a meet-and-greet. A limited number of discounted tickets will be available for purchase with a code for online or box office purchase and possibly at some area stores. A portion of the those monies will go to the Syracuse Basketball Alumni Club who will then distribute that to charity.
There is a chance that on Sunday, June 30, Lawrence will make a trip to Albany.
On Monday, July 1, Lawrence will throw out the first pitch for the Rochester Red Wings and have a Meet-and-Greet. Local resident Roosevelt Bouie will be joining as he will be promoting his summer camp. During the game, Lawrence will join SU play-by-play/Red Wings announcer Matt Park in the booth.
On Tuesday, July 2, Lawrence will be in the City of Brotherly Love for a Meet-and-Greet as the SU Philadelphia Alumni Club hosts him in downtown Philly at a place to be determined. There is a possibility of a kids clinic earlier on Tuesday and pick-up basketball on Wednesday night both in King of Prussia.
On Thursday, July 4, Lawrence will be back home to celebrate Independence Day in the nation's capitol with his lovely family, wife Noelene, which his met at SU and daughters Lawrencia and Leilani, aspiring college basketball players.
