Liberty opens as 7 point favs…

Uh-huh. And, it was 0-0 on the home team scoreboard.

tommy isn’t perfect. But now you want to blame him for everything? Was it his fault that the ref made a bogus fumble call on Taj at the 5? Was it his fault a 10 yard hold call in Rutgers territory put is in a hole? Was it his fault we decided to punt from the Rutgers 38? I suppose you’re going to blame Shrader for Szmyt missing the FG too.

I watched the Troy Liberty game a couple times. Out of his 20 runs 50% or so were Read Option/ Wildcat style design runs, and 50% were Troy getting pressure, Malik escaping contain or and arm tackle, and making the most of what was available, think Dungey.

He also takes a lot of hits, he is not the most elusive QB, but is very hard to take down. Doesn't get out of bounds or slide much at all.
Hes a rb playing QB

Greetings from a Liberty fan. Good discussion on the game so I thought I would give just a little more info on Liberty’s season.

On offense we have everyone back from last year. One rb that played in the Syracuse game hit the portal b/c of a lack of playing time. We’ve added a transfer RB from Utah that has played really well for us.

The D lost a lb from last year. We’ve picked up a few solid portal kids on that side of the ball. 3 transfers are starting over kids that started last year in the Syracuse game.

The Troy game was a mess for Liberty and I’m shocked we won. Due to COVID and injuries we were down 7-8 starters. The OL was hit hard, a 3rd string tackle had to play and he wasn’t ready. Our best pass rusher was also out that game along with a couple more major contributors.

Liberty’s D line is VERY good. Big, fast and strong guys up front. That’s probably where the team has improved the most.

I believe Freeze will have the team ready to play. He does a great job at motivating his players. What worries me as a Liberty fan is I’m sure Syracuse is also going to be ready to play and remember the game from last year.

I believe Liberty will be able to score. We’re pretty healthy again. The key to the game will be the Syracuse O vs the Liberty D. I see a 31-21 type game for Liberty. A to could be the difference.

Can’t wait till Friday and best of luck the rest of the way.
Thanks for stopping by. Sounds like everyone that was out due to COVID is back for the Syracuse game or do you still have some players sitting out?

The problem is once we get an offensive penalty and get behind the chains our drive is done. I think our 1st down conversation rate after an offensive penalty is really low if not 0 against Ohio and Rutgers.
We had a long TD called back on a hold against Abany, and then Schrader threw the screen pass to tucker on the next play for a TD.

As I said, we lost Rutgers for only two reasons: bad penalties and a great Rutgers punter.

I don’t count Albany because they are inferior competition. That’s why I said against Ohio and Rutgers.

From what I understand as of this morning we had one DL that’s out with COVID. He probably won’t be available for Friday. It looks like most are healthy. DJ Stubbs(wr) is doubtful. Tried to practice today. OL and DL should be healthy and ready to go.

So they are saying we aren’t any better than Troy.
Point stands.

That is unbelievable.
This isn’t that unbelievable. If you spend time with advanced stats - there are is a lot of crossover between low P5 and high-mid G5.

It’s why no one should be surprised we’re underdogs to Liberty at home. That doesn’t mean we’ll lose - just our most recent output (last year and 3 games this year) hasn’t justified anything better. Perception doesn’t have to be reality.

The point more than stands.
Closing Number >> Opening Number
I think you guys are way better than Troy, but Vegas knew we had some serious COVID issues that game and was without numerous starters.

With that said, Troy is a pretty good football team. Last week they held Southern Miss to minus rushing yards when sacks were taken into account. Only gave up 157 passing yards.

Wow!

I'm glad my factual one-line remark in response to your one-line factual reply provided you with the trigger to get that off your chest and vent your apparent frustration. Whew! You're welcome. ;)

Blame him for "everything?" 'Everything' you stated above are your own words based upon your own thinking. What I find very incredibly interesting, is that you got that from Uh huh. And, it was 0-0 on the home team scoreboard. Which, was a direct reply to your "Tommy was 7/8 when Babers went to his pregame script."

Yep, based on history.

CBS full rankings have Liberty at #27, Syracuse at #79.

AP poll has Liberty at #27. Coaches poll has Liberty at #26. (Based on receiving votes)

We're going to need to have a good game.
We were one point dog to Ohio we won by 20. We were a 2 point dog to Rutgers and we were the better team but fumbled it away with Big Ten officials helping. We were a 23 point favorite to Albany and were up by 52 when we put 2nd and third team defense in. The 79 is just way off.

I disagree we were the better team. Better team wins that game. Those officials were awful, but if you're a better team you have to find a way to win at home.

This! Play calling and penalties are on Cuse.
You can't just say the penalties are on us when some of those penalties were very poor judgement calls on the part of maybe the worst referee crew I've seen for a Syracuse game in the past 20 years. Benson's ghost holding call, the unnecessary roughness for body slamming - those aren't on us. That's just a bad ref crew making bad calls.

I agree it was a horrible crew. Problem is Cuse is always penalized, this isn't just one event, there is a long pattern.

Well yeah procedural, offsides, I'll give you those all day long. Way too many of those kinds of penalties and it's just sloppy.

I just looked at 5 years of data and Cuse is one of the worst every year. Best was 84th in least penalties per game; that was 5 years ago. Last 4 have been 100+, including a 129.

They were beyond awful. Ive posted this already but JW needs to request that these guys not officiate anymore SU games.
