% likelihood of each player returning

This is not true - whether you agree with the coach or not - JB plays who he thinks will help the team win - so there is at least one reason why your scenario wasn't employed - JB didn't think it was better - he could've been wrong, but the head coach's opinion does count.
I won’t respond to this because its been asked to not be said as an opinion.

naaa I'm hearing it isn't happening. We're coming in pretty late and the "You can come in and earn minutes" isn't always well received

Same lame recruiting pitch. Earn minutes? If you aren't ordained a starter you hardly play or see your minutes increase over the course of the season, here.

When you would be the highest rated recruit in this class, (and I bet these kids keep track of this) you want to hear a little different sales pitch.

He committed to Pitt, he probably wants to be the guy where ever he goes. Know your audience

Mintz is visiting next weekend for the Duke game.

Hs kids are rarely “ordained starters” unless their best of the class, which Mintz is not. He is a high four star and maybe top 50 recruit, but he’s probably not getting ordained starting pitch from any of his schools recruiting him. JB is on record saying he thinks he’ll start freshman next year, whether that was smoke or not, Mintz would clearly be in line to take a starting spot just looking at our roster next year on paper. Also with his visit to the Duke game a lot can happen, even if we are late in the process. Not saying we have a better chance than any of his other schools, but it seems the kid won’t know until he takes all of his visits.

I get what people are saying and what Gottlieb said about Daddyball and all that. But don’t you think JB would rather win at a high level and compete for championships over making his kid the team’s leading scorer and unquestioned star? Buddy would still be a key cog in the wheel even if there were other better players around him. Doesn’t it stand to reason that JB would rather have Buddy be on a team that could compete for championships than have him be the star and leading scorer on a mediocre team?

My problem with JB these days is that he can’t really recruit at a high level anymore and he struggles with player retention and his offensive schemes are stale.
I'm not positive your second sentence is true and that's the problem.

Buddy - 5%
Jimmy - 5%
Swider - 20%
Benny - 50%
Jesse - 90%
Frank - 75%
JG3 - 100%
Symir - 100%
pretty close to mine!

I guess it would all change in JB isn't back

I would put him at 90%

What is the % chance of Buddy returning AND JB leaving? Is it zero or subzero?

Buddy is a weapon.
We don’t use him as a weapon.

Joe deserves a chance to play his natural position.
Buddy had his 4 years.

I would like to see some change. I think Joe could replace Buddy’s volume and another PG would diversify the offense.

Buddy’s a good player but he plays too much and having depth is on the HC.

Just because JG3 is naturally a 2 doesn't mean hes better than Buddy. Is he starting for any ranked team or a 6th man? I'd say the latter. You could have a good team with Joe at 2 and lament the fact you don't have a better team with Buddy at 2.

I'm not sure why fans are writing off players leaving currently. I don't want to guess because I don't know what the AD has planned or JB.

Joe and Buddy shoot very similar percentages.

Buddy takes 6 more shots per game. Buddy doesn’t score efficiently. We can replace his scoring if someone else shot 16+ FGA per game.

Joe can replace Buddy’s production.

I don’t want Joe and Buddy both back. I want a new backcourt.
Buddy had 4 years. Joe hasn’t had 1 year at his natural position.

I would prefer a new PG and Joe at 2 guard next year.
Don’t want another 37+ MPG of Buddy and the other spot being able to be divided up.

I know it's been alluded to and discussed a bit in other threads, but I'm hoping we can use this thread to just focus on our current players and how likely it is that each one is back next year. So, give your best-guess likelihood % for each of:

- Buddy
- Jimmy
- Swider
- Benny
- Jesse
- Frank
Buddy 100% (doing for dad)
Jimmy 75% (100% if NCAA allows it.)
Swider 90%
Jesse 85%
Frank 40%
Benny 75%

Does anyone have the answer to my question?

Is it a non-zero chance that Buddy comes back?

I assume it’s non-zero for Jimmy since we’re trying to get the waiver.

Again, just asking since it will impact a bunch of other stuff.

Buddy has publicly stated several times he is not coming back.

Ima call that zero % chance of return.

Currently, Jimmy is ineligible for another season.
There is no guarantee that the waiver applied for will be approved.

And - even if it is (seems a long shot), there’s still no guarantee he actually will return.

So, I guess one could call that non-zero, but I’ll keep calling it zero until it isn’t.

Im not sure how JB sees next years roster but we need a vet at forward as that is our weakness. G play will be ok with the frosh Joe and Symir. Center should be ok as long as Jesse comes back. The forward position is really weak. Maybe Benny steps up but who knows if he even sticks around. Hopefully the staff goes hard after a game ready forward or we are in trouble.
Joe Symir Frosh at G
Benny Cole Frosh at
Jesse Frank Frosh at C is a bubble team at best.

I want Cole back if the others are leaving. We just have too big a hole projected at forward next year if he were to leave. Really concerned next year will be worse if we don’t get the front court figured out.
We need Cole back.

Just to have a body who can play defense and give us some offensive options.

On a NC contender though he is probably a 3rd forward.

If Cole comes back with jeese and Joe. And Judah we will be back in Dance!!
