Lydon to hire agent and enter NBA draft

Lydon will go in the 1st round. Period.

He made the right choice. It sucks for us fans, but great for Tyler Lydon who decided to play for Syracuse University. Tyler did well in class, and on the court. I'd put my money on him putting his money on finishing his degree.

I thank him for his time, and continuing the 1st round draft pick run. He's a great kid, and will do just fine in life.

I'm happy for him. Unhappy with so much bitterness, but what's new?

I agree 100%. If a kid is going for guaranteed money there is no reason to stay.

Good for them, do they mention how much time he has to take to gether himself before the release? He will be wearing a "Spalding" imprint across his forehead unless he can get a shot off faster from start to finish.

Yes, in fact, they do talk about how great his footwork is getting into his jumper. That's the 2nd thing that they rave about.

Thanks, but not what I asked.

Yes, my two posts are two parts answering your question. NBA Scouts believe Lydon gets his shot off very quickly. The gather is included as part of that. The speed and consistent mechanics with which he can go from catching the ball to shooting it is, along with his shooting touch, probably his biggest differentiator among other big men.

Tyler has a beautiful shot. I hope he does well.

Just got off the phone with Priority Sports who said they do not represent Tyler Lydon. This morning they said he signed with them.

nba scouts think that yet he wouldnt even shoot the last half of the year unless he had huge amount of time and freedom to take the shot.

wait wait, so Lydon has NOT signed an agent yet?

These last couple days have been ridiculous

After last year, I figured foregone conclusion he'd be gone after his Soph year - but he didn't have nearly the Soph season I thought he'd have... seems like he shoulda tested waters before signing w agent, but like others mentioned above, must be getting some assurances for 1st round...
thx for helping get us to the f4, TL!

Now we get to hear the posts about how every scout and GM is a liar.

The problem isn't our guys leaving for the NBA...it's our recruiting ability to keep the pipeline humming with high quality replacements. They're leaving faster than we can replace them. JB needs to hire a recruiter who is a rainmaker...not a good guy who can run practice.

Deciding it's be better to pump fake in certain situations isn't really indicative of an inability to physically get the shot off.

College basketball players of Lydon's skill level are majoring in basketball. The entire purpose of playing college ball is to land a professional contract as soon as possible. But there is one big aspect that differentiates a basketball major from, say, a computer science major. The computer science major can earn off his skillset for the rest of his life but a basketball player has a very small window in which to earn. Most of them will be done by the time they are 30; some of them will last 10 years, 15 at the outside. So every year they play in college for free is stealing a year off of that short earnings life. That is why it is important to get out as soon as possible. It is even more important for the guys who are not going to be superstars. A solid player who doesn't make the NBA can still earn 6 figure salaries for a decade or so. A guy like Lydon, even if he never plays a minute in the NBA, can travel the world and build an excellent nest egg by the time he is in his mid 30s. But that window closes so quickly that you have to get through it as fast as you can.

Bingo. It's literally an entire year of salary. With the small window of bball career length, it's amplified.

and when he did shoot since 2/4/17, he only made 25% from three. Something was clearly wrong given the fact that he was shooting something like 44% up until then.

This is probably the best post I've seen regarding why kids would leave early. Agree 100%.
