Lydon to hire agent and enter NBA draft

If he lacked confidence in himself and his abilities and his potential to compete at the NBA level, I'd think he'd be more likely to return. He's a smart kid and talented basketball player who apparently understands how the NBA works these days, and appears to be taking the route most likely to result in a career there.

We know you are Mr. Nba guy, even you can't tell he that hiring an agent right now was the right move?

Then why is he hiring an agent and closing any possibility of coming back to school? Whether you think he should go or not, I think most can agree that hiring and agent right now isn't a smart move.

My guess is he's already heard from NBA teams that he'll be a first round pick. I also think he likely knows that his stock won't go up from here. NBA teams know what he is at this point and the best thing he can do to improve is to get stronger, which is simply easier to do in the NBA.

Edit: While there's probably very little benefit to hiring an agent now, if he's 100% committed to going to the NBA and isn't willing to consider returning, which I suspect is the case, there's no point in waiting for an agent at that point. At least this way he gets his agent early and can settle in and prepare.

Him and 60 other guys lol.

I hope he goes to the combine rocking Rico. And when teams interview him, he tells them to talk to Rico. And I hope he makes them measure Rico. And, within 3 years, he better have ink, head to toe.

I hope not, not a fan of the all over tats, not a good look.

I'm not privy to anything that he may have heard from NBA teams, but I suspect he has good reason to believe that there are teams interested in taking him in the first round.

Local ESPN radio announced despite earlier reports, Lydon had NOT signed with an agent. A friend also mentioned to me that this has been removed from WSYR 9 web site. Is Infanti trying to join ranks with Rachel Maddow and Geraldo?

Like I said before, there are probably 60 guys being told they are first round picks.

He's now playing for a playoff team and is about to get a 2nd contract. Your point is literally irrelevant

If Tyler Lydon had his athletic ability...you're talking about a guy who got a chance because his team tanked and got traded. That's a crazy path.

I basically agree with billsin01 in the other thread, have your skill be ready and mature when you jump.

Jawun Evans is declaring for the draft and intends to sign with an agent. He's projected lower than Lydon with a decent chance of falling to the 2nd round. I guess we finally have another school that we can empathize with after all these years of being the only school to lose a player early who wasn't ready.

4th leading rebounder in the ACC and 40% from 3 isn't good?

No one said it wasn't good, they said his skills are not NBA level.

Tyler has a very slow release on his shot and will get tossed around like a rag doll inside. That said, I wish him luck.

I don't really care how fans react to guys leaving early, because I highly doubt recruits are reading the Syracusefan.com message boards. I do, however, wish that Boeheim would be more supportive of them. He was better in the presser than he usually is, but once Lydon confirms he's hired an agent, I'd like to see him doing interviews on ESPN about how awesome Lydon is and how he should be a lottery pick, etc, etc. How he came back for his sophomore year, and even if the numbers weren't amazing, he developed in ways scouts will appreciate and so on. I want future recruits to see the head coach on ESPN supporting his players and branding 'Cuse as the place to go if you want to be a first round pick.

If you end up on an NBA roster, someone much smarter than we are must think you have NBA level skills.

One of the reasons NBA teams like him is because of how quick his release is. This is literally like the very first thing DraftExpress points out about him in their scouting report.

Thats when he actually decides to shoot the ball.

Why would you make that distinction? First round picks get a guaranteed contract and realize their dream. Nothing is guaranteed if they return to college -- not the money, not their health, not a better position in the draft.

Because there's some margin for error.

If you're a consensus lottery pick, you'd have to get passed by a lot of teams before you're out of the guaranteed money.

If predictions have you at the tail end of the first round, it'd be very easy to fall out altogether.

So just being on an Nba roster is the goal?

Well, you have to be on one first in order to "light up the league," which seems to be your minimum standard for success.

Lydon will go in the 1st round. Period.

He made the right choice. It sucks for us fans, but great for Tyler Lydon who decided to play for Syracuse University. Tyler did well in class, and on the court. I'd put my money on him putting his money on finishing his degree.

I thank him for his time, and continuing the 1st round draft pick run. He's a great kid, and will do just fine in life.

I'm happy for him. Unhappy with so much bitterness, but what's new?

Good for them, do they mention how much time he has to take to gether himself before the release? He will be wearing a "Spalding" imprint across his forehead unless he can get a shot off faster from start to finish.
