Lydon to hire agent and enter NBA draft

I just wish that our first round draft choices would play like stars when they wear Orange. I am really tired of our underclassmen having above average seasons and then declaring for the draft. Why can't they play like first rounders when they are in the Dome?

Thanks for allowing me to vent.
get that sentiment . if you can't totally dominate at this level then you are stepping into a meat grinder.

I used to feel that if you were a projected lottery pick you definitely go and if you were projected to go 2nd round or lower you stay. I thought the tough choice was if you were projected to be late first round. Now I feel like if you are projected to go anywhere in the first round (high or low) you should go. At that point, your stock probably won't improve that much.

There are some things about Lydon's decision that have not been made known.
Private messages will address what I know from trusted sources. I will not publically say any more.

I'm curious now. Figure it has to be some sort of a chemistry issue.

I'll just put it out there for you. He loved the way John Gillon delivered passes into him when he was down on the block. Since Gillon is gone he is out.

Obviously this was a dagger.

I will say...99% of the time I understand the move and for the most part think it's the best decision for the kid. This one though I just don't see how it works out? I know he is projected to go in the 1st rd. in most mocks, but I think when it's time to draft he will go in the 2nd round. This is probably the firs time I have ever said this about a player (Mali, Ennis, etc.) returning, but I think he should have returned (not that Tyler cares what I think). I do think Hopkins leaving solidified this decision. If Hop stays I think Lydon stays.
Lydon already had his agent picked out one day after Hop went to Washington. Hard to say that if Hop came back, he would have stayed when he already had a agent in mind.

Tremendous

There are numerous things that occur, in any program, that most of us fans will never be privy to. So when things, like a player leaving, early, or a Head-coach-in-waiting takes a job with another university, there is natural speculation. Most of the time, little bits, and pieces, of truth, dribble out.
And speculation runs amok. I hope the information, I shared, with some, on this board, will help to fill in some of the blanks. I want only the very best for our Basketball program and have no ax to grind with any of the coaches or players.

Incredible use, of commas, sir!

I believe he had the agent picked out, and Jb advised him to hold off on it until he went through the process, in case things didn't go well.

That is true. My point is that he had already decided to hire an agent before Hop went to Washington. Jb convinced him to hold off until after Chicago. It won't matter. He is gone. Wish him well.

I believe this was not the case.

I don't think hes coming back either, but he obviously changed his tune a little holding off on hiring an agent.

No. Not yet.
I don't disagree with anything you have said...and I ultimately think Tyler is gone.

But holy crap...everyone is declaring this year and I really think he could drop to the second round and not get guaranteed $.

Really really bad potential scenario for the kid.

Richardson, Ennis and Donte essentially had deals before they hit college. I don't think Lydon is in the same spot.

I agree with everything you just said. couple that with what is also considered a deep draft, Tyler should at least consider it. but like I said, he would have to be told over and over again that he won't be drafted in the first round. And last I looked. 6'9 at least and 40% from 3 usually gets you drafted in the first round.

You're certainly not alone, but it seems like quite a few posters here actively root against NBA success for our players and go out of their way to diminish their professional achievements.

A lot of people here seem to confuse evaluation with "actively rooting against NBA success".

When I said that Tyler Ennis's chance of being a starter in the NBA was nil because he doesn't have elite athleticism, I wasn't rooting against his NBA success. I was giving my opinion on his NBA prospects. I also argued that because of his limited athleticism he was better off leaving after his freshman year instead of coming back and giving NBA more tape to view that would demonstrate his limitations. I doubt he would have ever been drafted if he stayed, best to strike while you have a chance.

I hope that Lydon gets drafted in the first round, I hope he gets guaranteed money, and I hope he has a long and excellent career. That said, I view him as a low ceiling, totally one dimensional NBA player and I really wonder what teams would spend a high draft pick on a guy who projects at something like 6 ppg and 3 rbg in 15 minutes off the bench? Not rooting against him, just giving my own evaluation.

I watch a lot of NBA and these players are freaks of nature. The interior guys are huge, strong, quick and athletic. I'm not sure who Lydon's going to be able to guard? Can't see him projecting as a high level rebounder or shot blocker against the talent in the league. Serviceable, maybe, but these aren't skills that I think will carry over at a high level. His one supposed PLUS level NBA skill is shooting from the perimeter, but he could barely hit the broad side of a barn for the last month and half of the season (only made 9 of his last 35 attempts from three to close out the year), and for every three point attempt he takes, he passes up 2 more decent looks. He's not going to be more open in the pros, and much of the time the guy guarding him is going to be bigger, quicker, longer, and have faster close-out speed. Do scouts really want to draft shooters that don't want to shoot? I'm expecting him to go in the last 5 picks of the first round or somewhere in the early second.

All that said, he's like Ennis in that I don't really see an avenue for him to improve his stock, so he should go if he has any shot to make it in the first round this year.

Again, I'm not rooting for him to fail, just giving an honest assessment. I want him to excel because every SU kid that does well in the NBA helps SU recruit in the future.

pretty sure you can find dozens of 40 percent 6'9 shooters in lower level conferences.
