You're certainly not alone, but it seems like quite a few posters here actively root against NBA success for our players and go out of their way to diminish their professional achievements.
A lot of people here seem to confuse evaluation with "actively rooting against NBA success".
When I said that Tyler Ennis's chance of being a starter in the NBA was nil because he doesn't have elite athleticism, I wasn't rooting against his NBA success. I was giving my opinion on his NBA prospects. I also argued that because of his limited athleticism he was
better off leaving after his freshman year instead of coming back and giving NBA more tape to view that would demonstrate his limitations. I doubt he would have ever been drafted if he stayed, best to strike while you have a chance.
I hope that Lydon gets drafted in the first round, I hope he gets guaranteed money, and I hope he has a long and excellent career. That said, I view him as a low ceiling, totally one dimensional NBA player and I really wonder what teams would spend a high draft pick on a guy who projects at something like 6 ppg and 3 rbg in 15 minutes off the bench? Not rooting against him, just giving my own evaluation.
I watch a lot of NBA and these players are freaks of nature. The interior guys are huge, strong, quick and athletic. I'm not sure who Lydon's going to be able to guard? Can't see him projecting as a high level rebounder or shot blocker against the talent in the league. Serviceable, maybe, but these aren't skills that I think will carry over at a high level. His one supposed PLUS level NBA skill is shooting from the perimeter, but he could barely hit the broad side of a barn for the last month and half of the season (only made 9 of his last 35 attempts from three to close out the year), and for every three point attempt he takes, he passes up 2 more decent looks. He's not going to be more open in the pros, and much of the time the guy guarding him is going to be bigger, quicker, longer, and have faster close-out speed. Do scouts really want to draft shooters that don't want to shoot? I'm expecting him to go in the last 5 picks of the first round or somewhere in the early second.
All that said, he's like Ennis in that I don't really see an avenue for him to improve his stock, so he should go if he has any shot to make it in the first round this year.
Again, I'm not rooting for him to fail, just giving an honest assessment. I want him to excel because every SU kid that does well in the NBA helps SU recruit in the future.
