Lydon to hire agent and enter NBA draft

He has a much better opportunity to become a better player playing full-time professionally next year then playing on whatever we trot out there for the 2017-2018 season. Not really an arguable point.

If people wanna argue he may play himself into a top 13 pick then there may be enough financial benefit to stay but if not, from a basketball development perspective and from a financial standpoint he should go.

The numbers don't lie.

It actually is pretty arguable, but people want everyone to go.

2017 1st round money is a minimum 3 million over 3 years.

If he works his way into the 22nd slot he's gonna get 3.7 million.

People saying he should stay are being emotional as I can't see any objective argument with value except that he may be a Top 13 pick next year which is far from guaranteed.

Like it or not we live in a capitalistic society. Thus, its all about the money.

And what is so bad about that? So he went to college - became a millionaire - then gets to go to Europe and play a sport for a living? European leagues make pretty good money by the way.

It sucks he left - but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it

You've got a point.

What's the argument on the side of developing better basketball skills while playing part-time against worse competition in the college game versus playing full-time professionally against better competition? I'd love to hear it.

Develop you skills in the best conference in the country, and be the go to guy, or rot on the end of a bench or go to the d-league?

From my experience following the draft, overseas players emerge as time goes on, not the other way around. An example from 2016 in Guerschon Yabusele.

He was included in the mock draft from the very beginning but was a late riser. One example of what I'm talking about is Kristaps Porzingis. He was expected to be a top 15 pick the year before being taken by the Knicks; pulled his name out of the hat along with 10-20 other Euro prospects. It happens basically every year.

As other have said though, why hire an agent already? Why not test the waters, get a better sense for how he stacks up and how high or low he might go. He must really want out which is a little telling and frightening, maybe he just wants off the sinking ship. :(

Lydon is not that good. However he should stay another year and be one of the best players around (yes I know I said he's not that good) to make my team better.

Come back, get stronger, be a go to guy, and be a lottery pick next year! I know that won't happen because juniors are almost never lottery picks and I don't really even give a where he gets picked I just want him to help my favorite team win more games. In fact, if he does come back next year I'll just repeat
all this again about how he needs to come back for his senior year.

How'd I do?

You want him to transfer to the Big 10? I don't understand. ;)

Anyway, I gotta work now but I shall return. The economic argument is just to hard to overcome for the "stay" crowd.

Be the go to guy! Like CJ Fair!

The money is going to be there next year or the year after.

Good luck failing the NBA, Jerami!

Errr

Ennis!

Errr

Malachi!

Errr

Lydon!

Doesn't it get old? This is the new system. Stop being babies.

You can't possibly get on people for being upset. Year after year we have to deal with guys who aren't lottery picks leaving early, when other programs, kids come back.

Then I stand corrected on Yabusele. I'll say that it seems like a lot of overseas guys end up being late risers because teams don't have roster spots for all of their draft picks, so they use some to stash on overseas players. I don't think mock drafts in March account for that.

If I had to run the wing with our guards in a pickup game,
I'd probably leave early out of frustration after the first 10
times they missed me.

I certainly wouldn't love my potential pro career being tied to them. And right now, we look even weaker at that spot for next year.

Utter horse sht. Every. Team. Does. I can give you multiple examples. Multiple. But it won't matter because you won't listen.

This is the new reality and has been for 10 years. Either accept it and figure out how work around the system or cry about it

The system is a joke, because it hurts the kid and the program, guys who have no business leaving are hurting their careers, and the college programs are suffering.

Get what your trying to emphasize here but you do have 12,000+ posts so one would think these sports-related things have some effect/bearing on your life. ;)

lol had a feeling that was coming. I'm definitely not apathetic but I sure don't lose sleep over wins and losses (anymore). no stress, no anxiety no worrying.

the older i get and the older my kids get is the more life is happening. what Buzz Shaw once said it perfectly clear to me now.

Bunch of overweight, grown men trying to tell someone else what is in their best interests. I love it!

This coming from someone who actually thought Lydon would be back, while expecting him to leave, and hoping the best for his career. It was a fun ride last year with him out there.

I don't think people really understand the type of person lydon is. Hes not a kid who will likely blow this money on fancy stuff or live an expensive city life. This dude is incredibly rural. Loves fishing, and the outdoors. Pretty sure he wants to buy a ranch in Wyoming.

This is a great opportunity for him to make damn good money to help fulfill those wishes
Very true. If you've ever seen the movie The Gambler with Mark Wahlberg and John Goodman... check out what Goodman tells Wahlberg. This is not exactly word for word, but close... "You get $2 million and you are in a FU you position. You pay cash for a modest house. You take a couple hundred $k and put it in a bank CD every year and pay your property taxes and utilities with the interest. You can tell your boss FU, or whoever FU, and never have to worry about getting fired."

Lydon is in the FU position John Goodman was talking about. That is my current goal in life. God bless Lydon for being at the doorstep of the American dream.

How about all of the bball guys you heard this year say that the kid needs to come back, or the scout who commented on him saying he was shocked that he is going to hire an agent?

You may be talking about yourself.

Guess the guys who do this for a living are wrong as well.
