Lydon to hire agent and enter NBA draft

People like you with this mindset are the worst. If (when) he's a first round pick that is a guaranteed contract that will make him a millionaire.
You don't know what's in my mind karnack! I like Lydon I think he'll get money but I don't Think that he'll play a lick in the NBA. So unless you get European TV how are you going to root for him? Good luck Tyler

So, 1st off, I wish the best to Tyler Lydon in his future endeavors and hope he can have a long and successful NBA career. 2nd, I fully expect many to impugn his chances for success and put forward the idea that he isn't ready... etc, etc. There is nothing worse than sour grapes attitudes being directed at kids who have repped us well while they have been part of our program.

Lydon, like pretty much all college players have areas that they can improve on and certain shortcomings which can be critiqued. Some fans demonstrate a perverse sense of obligation that players should have to the program and it's often manifested in what they would like to characterize as constructive criticism. That's all BS. A kid is ready to go Pro when he feels like he is ready to go pro. PERIOD. They have no obligation to the fans of the program other than trying to be the best player they can be while they are here and demonstrating a willingness to do what ever is asked of them by the coaching staff toward the goal of making the team a winning one.

I'm sad to see Lydon leave. No doubt whatsoever that the program would be better next year had he decided to stay. But I respect his decision and as a fan of the program I hope for the best for all the kids who have been part of your program... no matter how long they were on the team and what capacity they were able to contribute. Lydon was a special player in many respects and we were better off for his having been here.

Good luck Tyler!

Do they ride buses in the D-league like minor league baseball? Good luck tricking 1 gm that your potential outweighs your production Tyler

Unless we score a major load with grad transfers, a .500 season would be a major accomplishment.

Have to wonder why JB would want I go through that at this stage of his career. He's going to be miserable.

He'd be more miserable if he left someone else in this situation. I think he's trying to right the ship before he jumps into the rowboat.

He's old for his class. His stocks about as high as it's going to get, while keeping age in mind. If he stayed next year I'd give it a 20-80 chance his stock increases/drops. It's an age/potential game and he couldn't justify rolling the dice again.

So what happens when he's a first round pick?
well, reading my post...id think you can figure out that ill be surprised.

if that happens he’ll get about 3 million guaranteed before taxes and expenses. It’s obviously a lot of dough but if he’s out of the league in 3 years then what. Hopefully he’s a good saver, but he’s going to make his money overseas.

^^^ Clearly doesn't know the NBA. It's not even called the D-League anymore so jokes on you!!!!!

Really though, he'll be a first round pick and there's nothing wrong at all with playing in the G-League until more minutes open up at the NBA level.

Probably the right move. He was very underwhelming this year but given our non-existent guard situation and his reliance as a pick n pop/post player on the guard position, I'd leave if I were him as well.

Why sign an agent right away? Why not wait and see how it looks?

Because he had no plans of coming back regardless.

That's what it looks like to me.
He's burning the boats. Shows the gms he's trying to trick that he's serious

Dion was the last bonafide pro that left the SU early. Tyler isn't that. Everyone keeps bringing up age. If you're good, the NBA will find you. Damian Lillard and Buddy Hield were both upperclassmen that stayed and still got drafted; high at that. What's the rush? I say this for anyone, not just Lydon.

He'd rather be miserable than alone.

And what is so bad about that? So he went to college - became a millionaire - then gets to go to Europe and play a sport for a living? European leagues make pretty good money by the way.

It sucks he left - but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it

MCW was NBA ROY.
He was legit when he left. He never improved his jump shot. That is what will kill him in the league.

He was underwhelming this year, but why? I think the answer is more about our perception. He way exceeded our expectations last year. It was nearly impossible for him to come back and match that level this year. Combine that with his injury which clearly slowed him AND the fact we brought in a 5 foot nothing PG who was unable or unwilling to get Tyler the ball in positions where he could have been successful, and you get what we saw this year.
