MACtion

Im guessing some outrageous score, each team in the 60s. MAC offense can be legitimately impressive but their defenses lag behind sharply. Reminds me of a g5 Big 12
You are right on. Watching W Mich vs Central Mich and neither team can stop each other lol.

MICHIGAN

Iowa St coach to Michigan, Lewis to Iowa st.

Lewis will move up the chain for sure at some point, interesting to see where and what he does with it.

As good as Lewis has been at Kent State, if/when he moves to a P5 team, is there any reason to believe that he won't experience the same issues as Dino?

After three games this year (small sample size), Kent State is scoring over 52 points per game. In Dino's last year at Bowling Green, his team was scoring over 42 points per game.
It's a lot easier to score points in the MAC than against the Big Ten or ACC.
And you can apparently get away with giving up a lot of points, too.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but it's a big step up from the MAC to the top level of college football. Clawson, Fleck, Campbell, Doeren, etc are all coaches that had big MAC seasons before hitting the skids. Some success but a lot of lean years post-MAC.

Agree 100%. When Lewis moves on and we see what he does in the ACC or Big 10 will we be able to judge his merit or his acumen. Big 12 is a better conference for this system as well. Until then, I am not seeing much difference between Lewis/ Kent St versus Babers/ Bowling Green. Lewis claps a little more than Dino. BFD

We know DIno's systems works great in the MAC but what offense doesn't? It depends where Lewis lands as well.

Do you realize how bad Kent State as a program was before him? This is their first 3-0 start since 58. He won their first ever bowl game last year. Kent state is one of the 5 hardest schools in FBS to be at.

mac is great to watch and bet though.. the lack of any D has made overs fly high.. last night WMU was over 30 for the half and went over in the 1st quarter.. early night and could stop watching and if you lose multiple ways to get back even in the 2nd half..

Big Lewis fan here. Being a MACtion fan, what he has done at Kent State is pretty amazing. I also believe he is the youngest Head Coach in DI football. I think he has a bright future from an opportunity perspective and I think he is missed at SU. Watching Kent State this year (of which I have watched 2 full games) reminds me of what we were promised early in Babers tenure and when it works its fast and exciting.

However, whether the system translates to P5 football over the course of a season and can lead to consistent winning football is still unknown and a good question for a school to consider when/if hiring him at a higher level.

Edit: Looking quickly at this year there are 4 teams in the Top 25 rankings that are also in the top 25 of plays run per game and last year it looks like their were 3 Top 25 teams in the rankings (end of year) that were also in the Top 25 of plays run per game. Not great numbers for the fast philosophy although its a cursory review and small sample size.

The 3-0 is great, but they didn't play their usual P5 buy game, as in a normal year. Just as our record would be better if we played our FCS and MAC game (maybe).

I love Lewis, but why is he any different than Dino currently.

Yeah, they've been terrible for a long time. They are sort of the Syracuse of the MAC (although probably worse).

I just believe that it's a very large step up from the MAC to P5. And it's likely that Lewis (who I like a lot and who seems better offensively than Dino) will have a tough road.

There isn't much use debating it until he moves to a P5 program and we see what he does from there. ACC or Big 10 but Big 12 would probably be better for Dino's system.

There have been so many MAC coaches who have gone on to big things but plenty that flame out too. And they were all the " next great thing"

He won't be at Syracuse though.

I think it comes down to can je get recruits. He already has raised the average recruit rating there by .2 or .3 a year from .77 to .79-.81.. he also has a .8581 recruit from ON that would be our third highest recruit. He can recruit even to there

Because he is actually building a program. Dino took clawsons recruits and won with them. Lewis is taking kids who never won 6 games in their careers and went 7-6 and is 3-0 this year

Am I wrong that Dino did the same at Syracuse? Did Scott Shafer win 10 games or 6 past his first year with "Doug's" recruits? I forget...

I am more down on Dino than I have ever been, but I want to see Sean win at a higher level before I dump Dino for him.

Blah, Blah, Blah. Internet banter and it goes round and round. He didn't recruit the QB. Like I said, we can go round and round on Lewis just have to wait and see how good he actually is. Nothing he can do at kent st will matter when he moves on

One possible difference is on the importance of a dual threat QB. Who knows what Lewis thinks but after seeing Dungey and now Crum, you have to think he believes that is the way to go. Dino doesn't seem to agree.

Yeah for sure. Crum is really good running that offense at kent st

It’s just amazing to me. people who want to move on from Dino, would want to hire his protege.

You’d be getting the same system.

Dino was pretty clear that he really doesn't like mobile QBs. He'd much rather have someone sit in the pocket so he doesn't get injured. He had no choice but to play Dungey. And, he even tried to get Dungey to be less agressive. But, Dungey be Dungey. There's a big difference between embracing the mobile QB aspect, and what Dino would prefer.

Lewis was with DB at EIU and BGU. What if he was the guy who made the system run? Was doing good in '16-'17 at SU as well.

I see a lot more spreading the call and different play calls with Lewis. I see a well oiled offense. I also think that he will end up recruiting better then Dino will in the future. He has an 86 overall guy that would be 3rd highest in our class and he is getting that at Kent State
