First time riding out a hurricane. We are on the 18th floor in North Myrtle Beach. Stocked with everthing we need to be home bound for awhile (maybe without power)- a lot like a big snow storm. Elevators shut off because storm surge flooding could damage the relays. Water shut off (not sure why), but we anticipated it and filled 3 bathtube and wash basins, filled bottles and put them in the freezer.
Haven't got the full brunt yet, but the outer bands are here and we are one hour from high tide. The waves are getting close to the dunes. Dorian has slowed down so it looks like we will get hit as tide is going out.
Raining but not that heavy. Tornadoes are the big threat at the moment as 8 have touched down in the area.
When I look out the front door, Main street looks like a typical rainy Sunday. The balcony view is another story. The waves are anrgy and making a big crashing noise. The sky is grey and somewhat foredobing.
Local news took a survey and found that 86% of residents are riding it out. Visitors were forced to leave the hotels on Monday.
Best we can hope for it that the elecrricity stays on and that the elevators are back Friday afternoon. We will then have to check the office and power it back up.
Was really looking forward to the MD game and tailgate. Had a ball last time we were there RANDEEEE!
Have fun guys and LGO!
Update
Dorian now due East of us at low tide. Waves have receded way back from dunes. Best case scenario.
