mlb floating "arizona plan"

Teams like the Red Sox who own large stakes in their regional television networks don't include the revenues from the networks in their team financial statements.

I honestly don't care at this point, less than an 81 game season and it's a fluke. Half of MLB doesn't play to win anyway.

Another question - what does no season do to service time, etc. Is the meter still on for guys to get one year closer to free agency, or did the Cubs just get another year or Kris Bryant? And the Phils stuck with a year older Bryce Harper 12 years from now?

I think the service time questions were already negotiated.
The biggest issue in the negotiations was service time, and the two sides agreed that if there’s a season of any length, players would receive credit for a full year as if it was a regular 162-game season. And if the season is canceled, players will receive the same service time they accrued in 2019.
But then again, everything is always open for negotiation depending on how much of a jerk either party wants to be.

MLBPA took the deal in March which lowered their salaries during the pandemic shutdown in exchange for service time counting for every player in the big Leagues.

So theoretically Mookie Betts would be a FA without playing for the Dodgers if this season is called off.

Scumbag organization can “charge itself” whatever it wants in broadcasting rights via NESN and not share that revenue.

Tom Werner cooks the books at NESN which allows John Henry to cry poor.

It’s a joke the owners won’t open their books.

Got it thanks. Thought so but wasn't sure.

MLB also sold BAMTech to Disney a few years ago. Those revenues were not included in the general pie either.

Betts and other free agents picked a bad time to be free agents.

What sport should replace MLB in the big 4? Lacrosse, MLS, or UFC?

Both sides need to just cancel the season and stop playing this out in the media. They’re doing more damage this way but are too stubborn to realize it.
Yup. Players think they have the backing of the public and the owners just don’t care.

Owners are using this pandemic to try and break the Union. They are scum.

Players want their prorated salary.
Owners want players to give them a break even though they don’t want their “partners” to see how much money they are actually losing.
These owners want to install a salary cap. Screw them. I hope the sport goes away for a while.

MLB is dying popularity wise with people under 50 their isn’t going to be another Sosa and McGuire to break fans back. The sport has completely diluted the home run the last few years.
Baseball has become strike outs, walks and home runs.
The sport is big trouble because of greedy owners.

Lots of players can use the dough, they're not all rich. Easy for Max Scherzer to take a stand.

Manfred cannot solve a simple cable dispute with MASN. This is way over his head.

If you believe in the luxury tax and such there is a soft cap teams operate with.

Read this thread of tweets from Trevor Bauer.

He nailed it.
Manfred makes Goodell look good which is amazing.

the Min sal for MLB is 500K.. this is all about the guys in the MLb right now. they are not the ones worried about playing

because if he sets the season at 50-60 games like they expect the players want to strike.,

This isn’t true. The players know Manfred can’t set a 50 game schedule now because their are too many days left on the season calender.
Manfred wanted the players to continue dragging out the negotiating so he could run the clock out and put 50 games as the season.

MLBPA declines the last offer and said on Saturday they aren’t negotiating anymore as it was pointless and wanted baseball to set the schedule for the 2020 season by June 15th.
The owners didn’t expect the players to do that and now Manfred said today he isn’t sure their will be a season because owners don’t want to set the schedule right now and want to play less games unless players do them a favor without them opening their books.

This chit show is on Manfred.

if they said 50 today they wouldnt start camp unitl july 1 and play until aug 1 and 50 days is about all they would get in by sept 27 which is when they wanted to end the season.

Why would you wait till July 1st to camp?
That is just delaying it to play less games.

They could all be in a camp in 4-5 days.

Baseball wants less games if they have to pay pro rated salaries. These owners are scum.

because they cant start anything until they have a big list of decisions made and the players said they wont discuss those until they have a date so its like chasing their own tail.

they cant get players into a camp in a few days,, they cant even get the tests ready by then.
