NBA Thread 2022-23 Season

Suspending Ja makes zero sense, in my opinion. There seems to be something mentally wrong with him at the moment (based on the videos but more on the Instagram post saying goodbye to loved one) and I think he should be on the team as long as he is following some sort of rehabilitation/therapy plan.

Making him be away from the team and structure makes the issue worse, not better. A suspension is all about how it looks to outsiders not solving the actual problem.

25 games seems much less harsh than was expected. He definitely needs help and a better support system around him. And maybe for his dad to grow the eeeppphhh up.

Yupp. And there is the incident where his mother got into it with the employees at foot locker and called Ja asking him to roll through with his friends.

He definitely isn’t blameless but his parents are making it all worse for him instead of helping. I get that it can be hard to feel bad for star athletes but I do feel for Ja a bit.

25 games means he doesn’t make the 65 game qualification need for all nba and awards and won’t make all star. It means he’s losing out in tens of millions of dollars in contract ceiling if not more. Saw some reports that overall it could be 100 million. This was a lot.

The extension kicks in this year; not making all NBA last season (which was at least heavily influenced by his suspension) cost him like $40 million on his extension. Plus the 25 game suspension costs him $10 million this season since hes out for 25 of the 82 games. Gotta be one of the more costly suspensions

One extremely good fit (Miami) and one terrible fit IMO (Phoenix).

I am part relieved and part bummed that the Bucks appear to be out of it lol. Was a fun day or two going back and forth on if I thought it would be a smart move or not.

Are you sure it can’t cap him down the line? Not saying you’re wrong plus the money you outlined is obviously true.

I had thought it could still impede his ceiling.

Edit: I’m legitimately asking.

What does a suns trade look like for him?

Ayton and expirings or CP3 and expirings along with some second round picks.

Could include a first round pick swaps in 2024 and 2026 but those aren’t worth anything if Washington isn’t better than Phoenix by then and they probably won’t be (could theoretically by 2026)

I’m 100% wrong. Knicks411 is 100% right.

Feels like he’s become way overhyped the last couple weeks. I think he was correctly valued as a late first round guy before. The buzz that he could go top 10 is crazy to me. Certainly has the physical tools to be a good player someday but feels like a very low percentage play in the lottery.

He could be eligible for the 35% supermax as opposed to the 30% in a few years (like how Jaylen Brown is), but that is based on how you do in award voting in the years near your extension. Assuming the suspension is just for this season, I dont think it would affect him (unless you want to argue it makes people less likely to vote him all NBA in 2 or 3 years, which, maybe?)
