I think next year Meal will be in the slot...he like Strickland aren't build to be a tailback....but due to lack of depth are forced to play there...

Fredericks is just simply a better back than Neal.
This is just a wild guess... the ESPN announcers commented today on the unusual practice employed by SU in which the RB gets the play from the sidelines and calls out the blocking assignments for the OL) allowing Dungy to remain the in shotgun, checking out the opposing D. I like this twist, but I wonder if Fredricks has issues with this RB responsibility. Maybe he's dyslexic or something. I know I'm grasping at straws, but I don't understand why he doesn't see the field more (his dropped passed today not withstanding). Someone needs to ask Babers about this on his next radio program.

It was already asked .. Nothing came of it

Watch the last series of this game. Not what Fredricks does with the ball, BUT everything else. Mahoney has to call line coverage on one play and on another he has to position Fredericks. I don't care how talented you are if you can not call out the line coverage at the RB position in this offense you will not play.

Saw this as well. Very telling. It's unfortunate because hes easily the most talented runner on the team...

This explanation makes sense and makes me feel better

So is this something JF can eventually pickup, or a if he hasn't gotten it by now, he's gone next year scenario?

whether they like or don't like fredericks moe neal is not a running back in the ACC. the dude is a slot guy and that is it, he had better be able to catch. if they are trying to teach fredericks a lesson, I'm fine with it but at some point you have to play the better guy. why should the running back be calling the protections anyway

That's the responsibility the running back has in this offense.

Maybe I'm alone here, but tailoring the offense around a guy that doesn't know where to line up sounds like a bad idea.

I guess there are only bad ideas then, either you try to accommodate the offense to the better player, or you keep the system and play the guy that isn't good. :noidea:

I think we just need Strickland to play very snap.

You mean the one pass he dropped after coming in completely randomly?

Thanks for pointing that out. Thats exactly what I mean. I am a big fredericks fan but in seeing dinos system and comparing stricklands skills set, i understand why strickland is getting the pt. dino is playing the more versatile player. Doesnt mean strick is the better rb, id even agree fredericks is, but i think strickland is the winner when they split out wide and thats why dino prefers him right now. I would give fredericks the goalline work though

Unfortunately I think Erv needs to go back to RB. If it means Strickland/Neal switching roles with Erv, so be it. Erv doesn't need a lot of daylight from the OL. Our RBs are just getting eaten up on the dive plays. They can't break tackles and they can't fall forward. I'm sure they're very nice fellas but the running game is just awful.

We don't have a RB on this roster that is good enough that the offense should be changed around him.
We hired a HC who runs a system. He's not changing it for one season to win one or two more games this year to the detriment of future seasons. Any fans that can't grasp that concept might want to find something else to do on fall Saturdays for the next couple of years than watch SU football. Otherwise, you will be very frustrated.

I agree. Dino needs RB's with speed, hands AND the ability to be a second field general out there. If you can't do all 3 you're not gonna be the man.

I should have known... thanks.
So Neal is getting those reps because of 1 long run? Do much for the "you have to look at their entire body of work" approach.

As for Fredrick's dropped pass, he certainly didn't help his cause there, but Strickland had a drop later on as well.

how complicated can telling the oline what to do be? its not like they have to read the D do they?

Fredericks needs to do what's best for him. Maybe that means going somewhere that runs a normal offense and he can just be a normal RB. Now is the time to do it. He can redshirt and still have two years to play.

Neal is Philips 2.0. If we had any RB depth I have to believe he'd already be in the slot.
