New DC: Rocky Long (now official)

Dino has killed it with hires/promotions the last 2 off-seasons. He killed it last off season in the portal/strong end to the recruiting class and he’s off to a strong end to the recruiting class and portal again this off-season. There’s a real chance we have another strong start to next season based on how the schedule lines up. Let’s hope we can finish a bit stronger and get to at least 8-4/9-3. That would be 2 solid back to back seasons which would help tremendously in recruiting and build momentum
 
I am guessing this has just been crossing t's and dotting i's and they told our defensive signed and any unsigned recruits that we will be running the 3-3-5 and just not to worry about that. Thats why all said they are sticking with commitment. I do wonder if this hire possibly result in us getting any portal entries back and they pull there name back out after exploring what is out there. Them knowing they should be in almost the exact same defense has to be good. It doesn't effect any NIL differences but not having any uncertainty in our scheme and having confidence it what they have already run and been successful at has to help. Unless they are going to Nebraska, the risk in playing in some other defense seems like a bit of a risk and a negative to me. NIL money better be great for them to leave is what i'm thinking.

So does Long have any positional coaches he wants to bring to Syracuse instead of who we have already or do they all stay the same?

I'd feel a lot better if there was a Pete Thamel tweet confirming this.

And also confirming who Mississippi State's new DC will be.
 
Based on the age and his being the architect I bet this is a really good opportunity for DC in waiting Swag. He gets to learn from the OG and also doesn't have to think "this guy is going to be here forever." I'm thinking this is a short term, 2 year type of deal. Swag gets the keys in 2025.
 
Love it. I want that slug Thamel to announce it but apparently he only announces the bad news.

I don’t think we have to worrry about losing Rocky either until he’s ready to hang them up. Excellent hire.

Rocky and Dino seem to have some kind of relationship. Have to think that was instrumental in getting this done. Phenomenal

It’s a really nice opportunity for Swag to be the apprentice if that’s the plan.
 
This was arranged three years ago.
