New York Football Giants 2017 Title Quest Thread

Schwartz is a good coach.
He was good at Tennessee as DC.
He was the coach after Detroit went 0-16 and helped them.
He was really good as Marrone’s DC at Buffalo ask the Bills fans on here they loved him.
He has been good as Philly’s DC.
The guy deserves another HC chance.

He isn’t the Clapper.

He's a really good dc, not sold on him as a hc, the Giants could do a lot better, and Yes the clapper has to go asap, and soon as Jerry can pull his hand out of his back the better.

As a Cowboys fan I have the following reaction

And that’s what makes you a good pokes fan.

Go look at the pretty helmets the fancy Stadium, the overhyped players and enjoy a plethora of anywhere from 6-10 to 9-7 and no playoff win seasons...the Giants are in the business of winning Super Bowls and got a job to do.

“There are two kinds of players in this league, folks...there are guys that play professional football...and there are professional football players. And the professional football players are the guys we want.”

Amen.

And Go get some ‘Big Mollies’...

I just want to say, even post-Cotton Bowl, I'm all in on Darnold for the Giants.

His OL is junk and his WRs did not help him out (not to say anything about his coach).

With that said, his turnovers are a legit concern.

But his size, arm strength, accuracy and mobility are still amazing. Also, he has the demeanor to do well in NYC.

Here is where I'm wavering a bit. I was all for Eli going to another team and taking our lumps. With Darnold only being 20 years old, I think we keep Eli, let Darnold sit a year and go OL in rounds 2 and 3. USA Today's mock draft has us going Darnold, Rankin and then a DL in Rd 3.

Solid.

I think the Giants can drop back in the draft, remain in tbthe top 10, still get a QB or the Ped St RB...and then go OL or DL. They’re signing FA OL for sure as well.

I don’t trust Darnold.
I get his OL wasn’t the strongest but he is acquiring way too many bad habits.
Way to aggressive in college and doesn’t read defenses that well.
He will be a pick machine in the NFL.
If you don’t take care of the ball in college where the windows are huge in pro ball he will be throwing picks.
If Eli isn’t going anywhere next year I wouldn’t be shocked if they traded out.

I like Mason Rudolph, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen more than Darnold who was had this hype and the more I have seen less I like him.

Rosen has had two concussions this year alone.

Baker Mayfield is barely six foot and can't keep his cool.

Mason Rudolph?

Darnold is 20 years old. He has a sieve for an OL and Clay Helton as his coach.

We took Eli with lots of warnings because it was the right pick. Darnold has all the tools and the things you can't coach.

He has a lot of turnovers this year because he was dragging an 8 win team to 11 wins.

Gettleman taking out the trash for sure.

I dont think the QBs are worth a top pick either.

We good with MVPLi and Webb.

Hart said he is he best right tackle in the league and told the Giants he wouldn’t play this week? Huh? He’s bad and should be clinging to any job in the league he has.

I actually feel bad for people that are that dumb. Yikes.

Yeah none of those guys screams must hire.
Iowa would love to get out from Ferentz contract for life basically.
Wittingham isn’t that good.
Toub is a good special teams coach but I would laugh if the Giants hired him.

Agreed. This seems like some agents leaking stuff.

Wouldn't be happy with any of these guys.

As a Giants fan, I've always considered the NYG HC as a lock for top five job in the NFL. Any thoughts on that? Am I crazy to think that?

Honestly a job is only as good as the QB nowadays.
Some organizations are trash like Cleveland but there isn’t a difference between Seattle and NY Jets job.

It’s all about getting the QB and then having a HC who can build around that.
Find a QB it’s a good job.
I think Jim Irsay is a clown owner but that job is going to be one of the top available if Andrew Luck isn’t done.

I think Schwartz would be a decent head coaching choice but I feel he's getting a little bit too much credit for the Philly defense this year. There are two major reasons why Philly's defense is highly ranked and neither have anything to do with Schwartz. They have probably the best DL (starters and bench) in the NFL. Even more importantly, for 90% of the year they had a QB who led the league in 3rd down efficiency. Opponents couldn't get him off the field. Philly would routinely win the time of possession battle by 10 minutes + and that allowed the defense plenty of rest. In the Rams game they ran 85 plays to LA's 45.

I tend to agree with you on Darnold and Rosen. I think Darnold's issues can be corrected but he should sit for a year and learn. I like his size, arm strength and demeanor. He's a tough kid.

Rosen looks like he'd break in half with a strong wind. Not playing the other night due to "concussion protocol" was a bunch of orchestrated nonsense. Guy had not played in a month and he's still dealing with concussion issues? If it's that bad then maybe it's a chronic issue.

Hard to see Iowa doing a lot better than Ferentz. He's had a fair amount of success there. Not like that is some plum job in highly fertile recruiting territory.

I think Schwartz did a real good job of masking the major deficiency at CB. Of course he was helped in that the DL was able to get enough pass rush on their own.

The one caveat on him as an HC candidate, other than the fact that he bombed with the Lions, is that, based on (admittedly anonymous) players' comments, he might have a pretty short shelf life as an HC. In other words, you're not the only one who thinks he's getting too much credit.

The guy might be the most underrated coach in the country, does more with less than anyone.
