NFL Thread - 2018

Sure, the non call was a huge miss. I am speaking third hand here as I missed a bunch of the third quarter with my kids, but a buddy of mine told me they didn't throw a flag against the saints when there was an obvious facemask against Goff that affected their drive. Again I didn't see it, but that would certainly change the course of the game too. Again speaking third hand, but only the missed PI call is discussed as it was at the end of the game. Timing is huge.
So if they called that stuff the end is different as NO clearly is more aggressive knowing they need a TD so I get the point.
I just think that nocall was the ball game.

I just don’t want his INT to be glossed over by the refs, bad calls happen in every game.

Wonder if that ref did the Giants -iggs game in Philly??
I really don’t blame Brees at all. He faced pressure up the middle and the ball was tipped.
The refs screwed New Orleans.

Tony Romo is a future HC if he wants it.
The guy was smarter than the freaking KC coaches in the booth.

It was an awful call(missed call). I'm just saying time is key. But I agree, the ending would also had been different.

I Want the phins to trade up for Haskins.

They got you, I've gone through the data, this is what the NFL/Patriots want you to believe. Don't go through the NFL Penalty data with a strategic vision if you want to remain sane.

Reality is, the Patriots have been called for ZERO Offensive Holding penalties in the 1Q in 18 games this season. They've been allowed to get off to a fast start.

8 OH penalties in the 2Q, BUT, two of them were on STs and three were not accepted because other flags were thrown...so, that's 3 Offensive Holding penalties in 18 games in the 1H.

They were flagged 9 times in the 3Q, and 6 in the 4Q...only 3 of those mattered in games where the score was in doubt (Pittsburgh 2x, etc). The rest were thrown in games that were long over or at least a two-scre lead in the 2H.

Good, well-coached team and they deserve a lot of credit, but there's not nothing going on there...

Not knowing much about the Saints DL, I gotta believe Donald and Suh pose a greater threat to Brady.

LA’s defensive backfield isn’t very good so it might not matter.

I have to imagine Suh’s going to earn any roughing the passer flags thrown his way.

The one huge difference is that Wade Phillips is a much better DC than Bob Sutton.

I won't dispute these numbers (mainly because of the level of effort required :)), but I assume you've gone to this level of detail with every other organization's holding calls against? This by itself doesn't mean much.

I won't argue that NE is one of the lower penalized teams in the league, I just don't think it's some larger conspiracy at play. Although who knows, maybe we'll get some epic 30 for 30 in a decade ;)

I agree. Wade won’t stay in Cover 2 if NE is marching at the end of the 4th to win the game.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Pats can run effectively to keep possession like they did against KC in the first half.

Edit - if Andy Reid has half the DC Jim Johnson was KC would be in the SB.

The real cause for the saints loss was Payton.

What the Fluck was he thinking taking the ball out of Brees hands so often?? Especially on the goal line??

nuts.

Save the cute crap for a 1pmer v Tampa Bay in September...you can’t storm the playoff beach with smoke and mirrors and your howitzers on standby.

Ridiculous

Jim Johnson was amazing. He'd blitz you getting off the team bus.

First I have no horse in this race, I am a Phins fan and they have been irrelevant for decades. Second, USA Today ran a poll last year, with responses from only NFL players. Who is the best player in the NFL. Answer: Tom Brady. It’s really the fans as is typical that have a beef and that usually stems from beat downs. Brady cheating, is a bit like saying baseball players cheat with pine tar. Ummm ok...so instead of traveling 400 feet it would have travelled 330? Still a home run. (I am spitballing there a bit on the actual benefits of pine tar but you get the gist).
Lastly in the immortal words of Yogi Berra, if you aint cheatin, you aint tryin. Just about every player on a football field try’s to cheat and they view that as getting the advantage. Dbacks pull backarm/jersey of wide receivers, linemen grab jerseys, etc...no one calls them cheaters. Sometimes a player is just really good and finds a way to win. Regretfully that has been Brady for the Pats. Hell he he even won in the wife category...she is a 10. Do I hope Brady smokes a turd in hell? Yep I do. Is Brady the best ever in the game. Yep he is. Do his peers think he is the best? Yep they do.

Fair enough, everyone's entitled to a position. I would add that there's a difference between what arises from physical contact between two players competing on the field during the game, and premeditated, systematic, clandestine filming of another team's practices. Also in the "deflate-gate" case, for if there was no premeditated effort to manipulate the inflation pressure, why did Brady smash his cell phone upon being asked about conversations he had with their equipment manager? Finally, I believe in redemption, however there's never been an ounce of contrition from either Belichick or Brady. I find that kind of arrogance and entitlement difficult to accept.

'The biggest mistake Payton made was coming out of the two minute warning. At that point LA had two TOs remaining. Game tied. He makes the crazy decision of throwing the ball on first down and Brees throws it at Thomas' feet stopping the clock. Instead of leaving LA with a minute left and no TOs, LA ends up with 1:41 left and one TO. Brutal clock mismanagement by Payton. If Reid did that they'd be killing him.

The Patriots went 11-5 this year and were blown out by Jaguars/Lions/Titans and yet the refs are letting them get off to fast starts:
Maybe the Patriots OL coach Dante Scarnechhia is freaking good.
But the only logical conclusion is the refs let the Patriots get away with holding.

If there was a way to avoid Romo's incessantly annoying prattle, I'd do it. In fact, if he's doing the Super Bowl I'll hit the mute button and crank up the stereo (no, I don't stream anything with my phone).

TrueBlue that Miami miracle now only helped the Patriots.
The loss costed them HFA but it cost Miami a top 10 draft pick. If they lost that game they have 8th pick in the draft rather than 13th.

He’s the best analyst there is. You’re crazy.

You might want to familiarize yourself with what Spygate actually was first.

Does this surprise you? It doesnt me

How did it help the Patriots?
Miami’s draft position puts them out of the range for a top QB without mortgaging a lot of captial.
Getting from 13 to top 5 is a lot more than from 8.
That helps NE.
