NIL

I wonder if they could cap the NIL at a team level. If players are not capped, can the NCAA get away with a team cap. Some G5 team could spend 90% on one player if they wanted. But the big boys would need to actually pay a little less as they want a deep roster.

OK I know that this thread is not really about this, but really surprised nobody had a comment about "gummy connoisseur". Are we talking gummy bears or edibles?

A salary cap for college teams? There is no chance of that happening.

You will have front-loaded deals where kids get 99% of the money in year one, then $1 in years 2,3,and 4. Schools will stagger the deals that way. And schools will then want to revoke scholarships and kick kids off the team and out of the program to free up "cap space". That is a slippery slope that I'm sure nobody wants to go down.

And now you talking CBA type stuff because as the TV rights deals increase shouldn't the cap increase? If not this will lead to the players forming a union and fighting for that.

While I hate watching the deconstruction of college sports as I grew up with, this will be a fascinating evolution. We can all demonize the NCAA for allowing this to happen, but the NCAA is NOT some third party governing body. It is made up of member institutions, and there are far more "have nots" in its membership than there are powerhouses throwing around billions of dollars. I have to think the have nots, for their own survival, will endeavor to put some guard rails in place around what is happening. If they succeed, will the financially upper echelon schools secede? Will there be court challenges to solidify a system? Will state and federal legislatures see a need to act? How will the tv contracts play into the whole development? Really seems like we are headed to a civil war and I have no clue how it will work out.
I think the end game is a real minor league, whether it's high end collegiate institutions that break away from the NCAA or something else. Pay to play has been an issue for Football and Basketball for years and years and the only way it's going to change is if there is a permanent separation of the athletes that want pay for play from student athletes. There will be schools that want to pursue their athletics programs as an industry and there will be those that don't want that.

I find this hilarious. What are the expectations at Wichita St for crying out loud? Gonna fire a guy over something where his hands are tied and he probably has no chance of survival. Unless Wichita St has a Saudi Prince in their alumni base who can bankroll their programs, what do they expect with their NIL game? It's not the AD's fault.

Plus according to the rules, the University can’t offer anything themselves. They sound like they want an AD acting as an agent.

Balls less wonders at NCAA Emmy will go down as one of the worst leaders of any organization in modern history. Total blowhard. Empty suit.

It will be interesting how quickly lawsuits will be filed in states with NIL legislation that either prohibits schools, conferences, or the NCAA from limiting an athlete's right to NIL compensation or prohibits an athlete from being suspended from competition due to receipt of NIL compensation.

Because the language in the various states' NIL laws differs, what is allowed in one state may not be allowed in another. This is why Federal intervention is the only way to effectively regulate NIL payments in college athletics.

The inmates are running the asylum

It will take a couple years, but college athletics is over.

You might argue that it's already "over", but the play-for-pay kids haven't even hit campus yet, for the most part. So, I think it'll be a year or two that we still have to compete before it's all over.

You can't cap, that's unconstitutional.
