Noel to 2012

Noel/DC2 4-5
Fair-3
Triche-2
MCW-1
Rak- super 6th man like Waiters this yr, Southerland, Cooney, Grant, Keita. SICK 10 man rotation. I don't think we are out of it especially with Melo gone after this year. DC2 could play the 4 and be the offense guy and Noel could be the defensive stopper and the 5.

I seriously doubt Coleman would start over Christmas at the PF position.

I thought I read that Coleman might need some work with his conditioning. If that's the case, he might be like Fab last year & see limited PT. If Fab goes, we have 4 guys to play the 4 & 5. Doesn't sound too crowded.

...pretty sure JB has indicated Triche is PG next year...unless having ball in hands a lot more means a 2-G with a lot of PG skills...

Great news, gotta think we have a fighting chance to get Noel. Here is a post I made about Orangeyes & I seeing Noel at midnight madness this past year for those who missed it:

"Yep, I remember. Noel and Goodluck were outside the Dome just standing around, interacting with Cuse fans, when Orangeyes and I came over to meet them. Nice guys, seemed overwhelmed by the evening, but in a good way...almost as if they were still standing around outside because they didn't want the night to end. Took pictures with us...OE, you should post them!

I'm assuming they saw Carmelo make a grand exit that night...police escort out of the Dome with a small motorcade of black SUVs...with a crowd of Cuse fans screaming & cheering as if The Beatles themselves had just passed. I hope that in that moment Noel understood just how much Syracuse supporters love and support our former players & just how much of a "rockstar" Carmelo had become in his one year here. The same feeling I had when President Bill Clinton's motorcade passed by me (and other Syracuse grads) on the morning of May 11th, 2003 (Graduation Day) as I was standing outside of the Dome with cap & gown on, waiting to enter, was pretty similar to the feeling I got hearing the screams and shouts of adulation as SU's own Carmelo Anthony was whisked by us that night. Such a great night to be a Cuse Basketball fan. I will never regret driving up from Buffalo for that non-game event.

Afterwards, I was convinced that, since Noel was in attendence, (got his picture taken with Melo, hung out with the team, met up with Philly rapper Meek Mill, and met alumni such as DC, John Wallace, Flynn, etc) that no matter what would happen afterwards in his recruitment, Syracuse would always be a strong candidate for his commitment. So I have to laugh when a recruiting service fails to list Syracuse as an option for Nerlens...because if, after experiencing something like Syracuse Midnight Madness 2011, possibly a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Syracuse Basketball past and present, Nerlens Noel still doesn't understand how special this program is, I'm not sure Syracuse ever had a chance then."

Let's hope the powers that be sit young Mister DCII down and show him the before & after videos of Fab so that the same mistake isn't repeated.

If we can get Noel for next year, I wouldn't mind seeing Fab leave at all.

If only you could have seen Noel's eyes when he walked into the Carrier Dome and saw the crowd an hour before Midnight Madness started. Heck there were only about 15,000 allowed in and probably 10,000 or so there at the time. After he said "Damn, look at that crowd", someone piped up and said, "that's nothing wait till you see this place with 34,000." Nerlen and Goodluck were like two wide-eyed kids at Disneyland that night.

Meanwhile DCII was at MM in Kentucky. So glad the Tilton pair choose our place that night as there was magic in the air. It was one of the all-time great, non game events in Dome history.

It was an atmosphre as good as could be hoped for when welcoming a Blue Chip recruit!

Just heard he is reclassifying for 2012. I really thinks this hurts UCONNVICT as they are unlikely to be eligible for the 2013 NCAA tourney. He'll be on campus at SU for the UCONN game, make him feel the love!

I think DCII saw enough games last year and this so he knows without being told.

Makes me a little uncomfortable all the people saying they'd be ok with FAB leaving in order to make room for Noel. I know he is a stud, but a high school big man's ability doesn't always translate to the next level immediately. A lot of 5 star big men have Melo like Frosh years, so lets not be too quick to give up the bird in hand for the one in the bush. Next year if Melo is here and follows a normal level of progress and development his defense and shot blocking will likely be close enough to what we would get from Noel to make it a relative push, but my guess is that his offensive ability (as a third year collegian) will far exceed Noel's.

If Melo is leaving because he determines that he wants to enter the draft or he can't maintain his academic eligibility then Noel is the replacement I want. Alternatively, if there is a way to add Noel to that rotation and keep everyone happy, I'm all for that too, but I'm not ready to trade Melo for Noel if Melo can and wants to be here next year.

TMI - Are you sure you don't mean "Ice 9" in your quote ?

I'll co-sign this declaration of centerpendence

JB has said that Melo is only at about 40% of what he can become

I don't understand how people don't see that the timing of this as a great thing for SU. He was quoted recently saying he probably wouldn't reclassify and what has changed since then. It has become pretty clear that Fab will not be back that is what has changed. It has become pretty clear how much better we are with a shot blocking center as well.

I don't think anyone is pushing Fab out the door but it seems with the academic issues he is planning on heading out the door. I belive JB said a while ago that Fab and Dion are probbaly gone.

I would love to read into the timing, it certainly seems curious, however it could just be hes healthy like he said. Hoping you're right and hes reading the Cuse tea leaves.

I agree, I would love to buy into that theory as well, but I don't think that plays a factor. I actually think the fact that we have so many bigs is a detriment... I worry a lot about UK, we beat them out for DC, will they let us win this one... The AD recruitment speaks volumes to how I feel this one may go. Imagine our team with him. Just give us the trophy now!

Sup dudes,

I think it would be fantastic if you guys could orchastrate a student section "LET'S GO NERLENS" or a "NERLENS NOEL" clap clap clap clapclapclap chant going on on Feb. 11th. You guys could really earn your stripes (otto's army, you see what i did there? stripes? army... boom) if you could do something to make this kid love the dome. I will literally have a big head done and get it to you guys if it's; a. legal, b. you'll wave it around. Lemme know and I'll have it done.

Good talk,
Signed - everyone who cares about landing the greatest recruit since Carmelo Anthony.

About having lots of talent inside minimizing our chances. I thought the same thing with DJC but look what he did. anything could happen.

Imagine Noel's help D from the weakside and his length on the wing of the zone. He is a special player and one who was built to play in our zone. I've been so excited to see this guy in Orange, biggest recruit and opportunity since Carmelo. I'm hoping the modest pace of Rak's development and the seemingly high accademic hurdles for Melo to return next year will be enough for him to see orange. Immagine our future all star PG MCW dishing to his old friend for power slams.

It would start SU's golden age if he comes here!

Our third Golden Age has already started. We are so consistently successful there's not a huge difference but I'd say the first Golden Age, (a series of years in which we were legitimate a national title contender) was the Louie and Bouie Era (1976-80). The second was from 1985-91, after the triad of the Carrier Dome, the Big East and ESPN made us big-time and before the probation knocked us back. The third began two years ago. We've been ranked #1 for two of those three years and started 18-0 the other and we are getting not just McDonald's All-Americans but Top 5-10 national recruits. Of course we won a national championship and went two other Final Fours when not in those periods, but we were not able to sustain that level of strength or accomplishment from year to year.

If it were to happen on Feb 11 that would be even better! :)

Noel is coming here! I got a feeling and only sometimes wrong.
