Who would really want Melo's contract? (I cant believe I am saying this, but its probably true).

agreed.. but its less risky than amare's and a team looking for another iso player could..

Who are the guys in the league who are really worth a max contract?

I guess not many: Lebron, Wade, Dwight, Durant, Rose, Kobe, Dirk, Duncan, Westbrook, Paul, Griffin (?).....thats about it... Melo and Amare's deals are going to look like a big weight very soon. Melo needs to get back in shape. He looks so soft, not running the court...no lift...all season long. There is no excuse for him to fall off the superstar map already. He's too young.

I had to check my calendar to make sure it wasn't 2002 again...

It's a good start, but no way would current Duncan deserve one.

I think you'd have to add Love and DWill. If they were on different teams, I would also think that Gasol and Bosh could be added.

he's been back from injury for what 5 or 6 days. the wisdom on this board is infinite.

The all star game was 9 days ago... He has been back for awhile now.

With A TON of practice time.

He needs to get in better shape. Dosn't look like he has much lift. He's getting packed around the rim a bunch now.

He's still a top 20 player in the league, but he looks like he lost his basketball hunger somewhere along the way. Hopefully its just nagging injuries...but there is really not any excuse to look that soft and slow, being a max player on the biggest stage.

I'd love to see him move without the ball. I don't understand the stopping and watching from the corner on half the plays.

So some of you are finally coming around, huh?

I would NEVER build a team around Melo. Never. Just like I would never have wanted to build a team around TMac, Carter, AI. Melo comes from that type of group of players. He wont win a championship until he takes much less money and is an 8th man nearing the end of his career. Hell, Big Dog won one...with the Spurs...and played in 9 games that year after being picked up near the end of the regular season.

He's just not shooting the ball well. That's it. Stoudemire hasn't been shooting well either. They both need to play more efficiently (hit shots) for the Knicks to win these games. They lost by 10 and Melo scored 6. I wonder a bit if the wrist is still hurting him.

He really is Dominique Wilkins. Probably not a guy most GM's would choose to build a franchise around.

I always thought he would develop more of an all around game like Lebron..but that doesn't seem to be happening quite yet.

IMHO, the Knicks will have until the end of the season to get it together. If pieces don't start to click, I think Melo or Amare will get shopped in the off-season. Maybe one of them even gets packaged with Chandler in a Howard deal if Orlando bites.

I have never professed to be a huge Melo fan (at least in how i evaluate him as a player, don't have anything against him personally) and I have been more on the train of him being overrated by the general public because he puts up a lot of points, but I will defend him a little.

But he isn't even doing the things that he normally does. He's playing very poorly, especially by the standards he has set, but he will get better. (Definitely still legit criticisms of his game, of course) but the Knicks will look better when he is even getting back to 55% true shootign than the below 50 he is right now.

Don't think Stat has much trade value right now.

Yeah, well said. The soft/slow part is frustrating. He's not moving well and his getting packed around the rim a bunch.

i was wondering if you could explain to me how a guy with a groin injury had a "ton of practice time". groin injuries are awful, nagging problems for basketball players.

strange, can't imagine a guy not moving well coming off an injury.

Let him get himself back in game shape. Man has a lot of pressure to to catch up with the Lin train.

Like we of all people don't know what he is capable of.

Carmelo is waaaaaaaaaaaay out of shape, IMO, Has no legs, lift, or quickness to his game, looks like an aged Bernie Kind or Bird out there right now

After the all star game, they played 1 game in 6 days.

Thats all every announcer was talking about during all star break... how much the big 3 would finally be able to gel because of all the practice time they were getting.

i was wondering if you could explain to me why he decided to play in the all star game if he had an awful, nagging problem. Shouldnt he have taken 3 days off?

Agreed. I said that yesterday and got reprimanded by a few folks on here. Groin shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Sounds like a case of he will never get the respect so why bother trying to hard?
