Ohio Postgame Discussion...

Hot take: I think our RB depth is the best we’ve had since ‘98 (Brown, McIntosh, Mungro, Johnson) and Tucker is the best back we’ve had since Reyes. We didn’t even really need to utilize Howard or Adams in this game, and they are both starting caliber backs.
Oline was opening up some nice running lanes. Ohio’s Dline was kinda weak. Rutgers will be a much bigger test.

did Dakota Davis play at all?

I think we’ll find out a lot about this team and what kind of season we’re in for next week. Hopefully we get 40k+.
Dakota didn’t play at all. He was dressed though.

Would be nice to see a healthy Hough get some run later in the season while retaining his redshirt. Maybe in a bowl game!

TD did a great job managing the game and not making any mistakes and shoot he ran 7x for 47 yards. A lot of the criticisms seem petty. When he was flushed he did a good job keeping his eyes downfield, that’s improvement right?

So many of the mistakes that plagued us last year were cleaned up in this game. I kept waiting for an OL to false start and it didn’t happen.

We were abysmal last year on third down and last night went 8-12.

a good running game changes everything.

We started to look like a competent football team. Good first showing against a decent team on the road.

So i’m watching the ohio post game presser and their coach said they were caught off guard by us running the ball and said he looked up sean tucker after the game.. what did he do in the weeks leading up to the game? He averaged 5 a pop last year and finished top 3 in yards for freshman at syracuse, i feel like you should’ve known this before the game, coach.

its not his fault he didnt know

I’m a Hawk. A graduate of SUNY New Paltz.
It’s rarely referenced. Had to chime in.
Great fookin’ game. I’m breathing again. Flying in for Rutty. They put 61 on Temple. Hoping Temple is UCONN bad.
3 lost fumbles, and 2 interceptions, give an opponent a lot of opportunities, and take away yours.

some people are trying too hard.

that play pissed me off. And not for anything Tommy or Jackson did. The DB grabbed Jackson’s right arm. Not easy to haul in a pass over your shoulder with one arm. Should have been a PI.
That's why would like to see some throws to Mang. If you try to grab his arm you might get hurt.

Diving for the catch is either in your DNA or isn't. It's an approach that you don't care, your selling out to get that ball. Some have it, some don't.

My favorite is all the discussion about who should be the backup RB. And not meant as a dig. But we had a guy rush for 180+ and people are talking about who should be next. I imagine that’s the conversation that SEC schools have because there are so many good players.

I find it refreshing.

Yeah right at the end. The end zone official has to see that. I just thought Courtney took a really poor approach to the ball.
The penalty was not as obvious as the horse collar holdings though

I don’t get criticism of the passing game.
Ohio’s gameplan was to have long drives eat up clock shorten the game and hope they could win.

We were comfortable with their tempo.
Played a very Manila gameplan, let our OL dominate and move the ball on the ground.
DeVito didn’t have bad game. He was average.
No need to sling it when the opponent can’t stop the ground game.

We need the passing game against better teams but save it for then.
We only scored 27 points because we didn’t get more possessions. They weren’t stopping us without penalties.

Good points.

Joe Morris was a cut back runner and could break defenders' ankles when he made his cuts. Different style, highly effective. Did the same in the NFL.

I think as teams plan for Tucker, HCDB gets the other backs more in the game. Different styles of running are harder to prepare for. Same with WRs, variety is good.
When Joe got in the open he was gone.

If Rhino is back drop Mang across the Middle, and let him beat up the Defensive backs a few times. That is a big man with deceptive speed.

Throw to the TE?

Jack Nicholson Yes GIF

Sharod “shared” ;) Johnson still hasn’t shown me why he’s getting PT, over….
… pretty much any other WR on our roster.

He’s literally Just A Guy as a WR.
Might be consistency. I also don’t think this game is one where we should judge WRs … just were not that needed. And all 3 made plays.

What is the fascination of people on this board comparing Tucker to guys from 40 or 50 or even 60 years ago? It’s a completely different game.

Yes, and almost no one is even mentioning Josh Hough. Quite the RB group - no wonder Jordan transferred.
