Olynyk enters the draft

welp, CJ just got knocked down another spot in the draft should he go.

I think pro GMs will go wild over Olynyk. 7ft tall with a good motor and nice touch out to 3 pt line.

He was already considered one of the guys that would go ahead of CJ in the draft anyways, so this doesn't impact him much. He'll be a borderline lottery pick.

i thought he announced last week?

he's a top 20 pick - no surprise

If you're 7 feet tall, you don't need a nice shot from the perimeter. You need to bang bodies inside.
There are no good big men in the NBA anymore because they all want to be Kevin Durant.

Tim Duncan?

Tim Duncan?

There's a small chance I was exaggerating a little.

You're right, there are still a few good big men. It's just that the role of the 7-footer in the NBA has changed for the worse, in my opinion.

yeah, i miss seeing those incredibly talented manimals like mark eaton and greg ostertag. if only we could go back to that style of play where you had a guy catch the ball 20 feet out..and then back his man down to the rim..and then either throw up a lay up or throw it into the big stiff..sheer entertainment.

You know what's funny is after I posted this I was thinking to myself "who other than Duncan?" and I couldn't come up with anyone.

He excels at the flop, which allegedly is no longer tolerated in the NBA. That will totally disrupt his game. Plus his hair is horrible.
Still, who couldn't use a flop specialist right now? :)

.
One of my friends says his dream job is to be a back up NBA center. Since your a center, you have a good chance of being overpaid. Since you are a back up, there's no real pressure on you to perform.

Our path to the Maui final was just paved.

They still have a great backcourt in Pangos and Bell. Frontcourt is very solid with Dower and that Polish guy returning. They are a legit top 25 team.

We will be favoured, but this would be a nice early season test. Especially for our guards new to the 2-3.

gasol? dwight howard?

Absolutely. Plus, Zach Randolph, Brooke Lopez, Marc Gasol, Joakim Noah, Greg Monroe, Kevin Garnett, Al Horford, Al Jefferson, DeMarcus Cousins, Lamarcus Aldridge... should I continue? lol

There are plenty of good big men in the league with very good post games. If they can also shoot face-up jumpers (which most can), I find that impressive, not depressing.

I give you Gasol and Garrett, but many of those guys play a hybrid power forward/center position. And Cousins is no Duncan.

Compare that list of guys to Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, young Shaquille O'Neal, Dikembe Mutumbo, Alonzo Mourning. The best centers from 15 years ago would eat the current best for lunch.
It's just a different NBA game these days and I like the old version more.

Okay, fair enough. The NBA has certainly shifted...while there are less elite big men and 2 guards, there are more elite point guards and small forwards. I would imagine it's a cyclical thing, based on the adjustments that teams make over the years. If you pine for the days of those guys, I get that. Personally, I don't miss it as much because we now have the likes of Lebron, Chris Paul, Durant, Rose, etc.
