ORANGE UNITED NIL

I'm very confused. Is my monthly donation to OU going to NIL, or isn't it? And if it's not, where IS it going?
Your monthly donation goes into a fund that will be used for NIL. OUC is still operating and at least as of earlier this summer they were executing deals with athletes under contract. I am not sure if they are negotiating any new contracts pending resolution of their discussions with SU. In the worst case there are certainly termination clauses that detail how any remaining funds are to be transferred. If you want more definitive information you can reach out to Mark Hayes at mark@studentathletenil.com

I think the University would like the collectives to help offset their $20.5 million obligation. Send the money to us and it will be tax deductible. Wildhack wants local businesses to help athletes to get additional NIL money by working through the University.

how many here are really use tax deductions as a reason to send donations? unless I am dumping 20K to NIL its been years since I could make tax deductions a thing.

They definitely do if the donation is large enough. It certainly doesn’t hurt. SU is trying to raise $50 million in three years.

So, help me here chat, is SU Football NIL tied to Orange United in any capacity? If not, should I stop my donation to Orange United and donate to SU Football NIL?

I would.

I had to email request Orange United to not autocharge my payment method on auto-renew. There was no way to self-serve disable that in my account with them online.

Got an email from a rep saying that was done (auto-renew canceled)... Then they auto-billed my card for the same amount as last year at the turn of the year on auto-renew.

They are not tied.

From what I have been told, SU is being very cautious with the new CSC requirements. They are now comfortable with SUFBNIL, hence this announcement. Talks are ongoing with OrangeUnited. And Wildhack mentioned last week that they are also hopeful that they can continue with Athletes Who Care.

SUFootball NIL supports football only and has generally been the lead on most of the high profile players in Coach Fran’s program. If you are only supporting football, redirecting all of your donations to that group makes sense. If you want to support other sports you can continue to contribute to Orange United, or can pause your donations to them and donate to ChampionCuse, the Cuse Athletics Fund effort to cover revenue sharing. Details of that initiative are on Cuse.com.

I have had some additional discussions with Orange United and the AD's office. At this point I cannot confidently say that OUC will continue as the preferred collective or even continue to operate. To be clear, nothing definitive has been disclosed, but there are many of you who contributed to the SyraCRUZ Tailgate NIL Initaitve in the past either directly through me, or through Orange United. Several have reached out to me asking for guidance. At this point I would suggest pausing or canceling if you are on a monthly subscription with Orange United. I will share more information as soon as I can, but if you want to continue to contribute and be assured that your money is being used as intended you can contribute to SU Football NIL for football only, or ChampionCuse through the Cuse Athletics Fund if you want to support other sports. It is my understanding that if the partnership is dissolved, all remaining funds would be turned over to CAF, but the transition may be a drawn out process.

I am deeply disappointed by this development and apologize for any confusion I may have contributed to and unfortunately I will be retiring from the NIL portion of the Fine Mess. We have been greatly appreciated by all of the student athletes we have worked with and I am especially disappointed that we will no longer be able to help them with appearance fees and other transactions, particularly the non-revenue sports athletes who will not be reaping much or any benefit from revenue sharing or corporate sponsorships.

Thanks for heading this up Mark. We tried to do it the right way and succeeded. Many athletes were helped, especially Olympic sports athletes.

I hope we can continue to do something similar in the future. Don’t think this is SU’s fault. The rules and ‘system’ are hopelessly messed up.

There's also no administrative fees or anything of the sort taken out of SU Football NIL. It's done by members of the community / former football players who want to support the team.

First thing I learned as a Econ major is that there is no such thing as a free lunch. There are certainly administrative COSTS with any enterprise. SU Football likely covers out of pocket by their lead donors while a grass roots group explicitly lists as a cost. It’s essentially a difference in accounting where one approach takes it above the line, while the other is below.
To be fair, SANIL and BPS are commercial enterprises, so once administrative costs are covered they can realize a profit, but as a service business that is to be expected.
At any rate both groups have contributed significantly to SU Athletics and the success of our teams and student athletes.

Thanks for all you did to organize the NIL through the tailgate. Was really special to be a part of what felt like real NIL, and what this was intended to be. Was super cool to see student athletes from all across Syracuse Athletics.

Thanks for sharing. Any discussion on when Nil donations will count into our overall Syracuse donation structure?

It's not the most functional website.

If you want to cancel an ongoing donation, you will have to email membership@studentathletenil.com and request the cancellation.
Agree but he seems responsive at least. I updated my donation over the weekend and he responded within literally 2 minutes. I thought my email had bounced back it was so fast.

It is on their radar. They have been having issues with data and the reconciliation of multiple NIL channels. One of the selling points of ChampionCuse is that contributions DO credit your donor rank. Once they finalize the structure for 3rd party NIL deals I expect a resolution. And there may even be some retroactive crediting.

Understandable if you are only using a standard deduction, however if you are a business owner or using certainly more than the standard deduction very much and critically a factor.

Tremendous effort, and thank you so very much for all you have done as a benevolent driver behind OUC, as many know, This space is critical however still fluid and being worked out. I would encourage all supporters to continue in their support based upon their preference. It is my hope that The legislation utilized to allow School funding (20.5) And individual collectives will be under one umbrella because both are absolutely indicated especially at a school like Syracuse University. I pray and trust people do not get discouraged, your work will bear fruit because of people with integrity all the way around. I trust we have this, do not lose hope and continue. The major donors knew this space was very fluid and still is (For everyone not in the SEC, B10). We however have integrity on our side I trust. That should count for something right?

I’ve tried to log into OrangeUnited and it won’t open.

They send me emails regularly, but now they don’t either accept my email or something else is going on. I used the link above to cancel the membership but something strange appeared.

Nice and thank you for the information.
