OT: Rex Ryan signing with Buffalo per ESPN

Rex is increasingly overrated. I like the guy, even as a Pats fan, but he's been living off those AFC champ game runs and his personality more than he should at this point.

I'll be stunned if the Bills develop an O with him in charge. He simply doesn't like offense, and he'll handcuff whomever the OC might be.

Rex took over a ready made Jets team that Mangini helped build. And made that team worse year after year. He has regressed as a head coach each year. Rex ran off all of Mangini's players who he won with in years 1 and 2...brought in his own guys and FAILED with them! Those are the cold hard facts.

Adam Schein said it best this morning in regards to Rex being with the Bills...

Also Pete Prisco laid out some facts about Rex being some "defensive genius". Points allowed ranking the last 4 years. It's bottom of the league...

But if the bills signed him to be their QB it would be genius am I right?
No, cause Bradford can't stay healthy. Why pay a guy like that

Rex over Reich What? I mean you guys already had your defensive guy on staff. Rex Ryan needs corners for his defense to work. I mean this decision is all about the buzz of hiring Rex. Whom I believe is overrated as a HC because do his press conference antics and giving beat reporters juicy quotes.

Buffalo made the splash hire for press attention. Rex won't win 9 games next year.
Well, that is one opinion - and one I don't share.

Read "Collision Low Crossers" if you want to know about how Rex coaches. The author spent a year working with the Jets staff. Rex did nothing with Schottenheimer's offense other than say run the ball more-even when the players complained about the complexity, and play-calling. He stayed out of Pettine's way until they were losing and then he made a mess (one game Rex was calling 3rd down defense and kept calling plays that weren't in that week's game-plan).

Players love him, but I don't see how he and Schwartz will get along because Rex has a certain system he wants run on D. I like the hire for the Bills, but they need to make some strong personnel moves to be in playoff contention.

If Rex brings in his own DC, doesn't St Doug's stock go up as he can make a package with himself and Schwartz? I can see Atlanta biting on this tandem.

And this notion Rex is walking into some great defense. The Bills lost to the Raiders with the season on the line and let a rookie QB go up and down the field on them in Oakland. The Bills defense is good. Not great. And anyone who thinks Rex makes that defense great is in for a really rude awakening.

Both bears and niners had off years offensively. I really don't know if Kapernick is very good. bills need to go get Sam Bradford. Keep him healthy, should be a playof team next year. Roman will be fine, I just don't know why people are so high on bears coach tresman

If you watched all of the games you could see how impressive his offense was. If you watched the players not perform you could see why the offense failed. Absolutely a case of a very good offensive system failing as a result of the players. Can't win too many games if your QB turns the ball over all the time, if your top WR's and TE's are constantly dropping balls, and if your OL doesn't do their jobs. You could blame some of that, especially the OL on Trestman but he was dropped into a bad situation from the start. The players were upset with Lovie being let go and never bought into Trestman completely. And Cutler is a coach killer. The offense was impressive last year and the start of this year. I think he's as impressive as Chip Kelly. And I wanted him fired as the Bears HC.

It is starting to look as if Marrone is not in Atlanta's finals.

Any defense that loses arguably their 2 best players early in a game, will probably struggle in that game. (Dareus/Gilmore). McKelvin was already out for that game as well. Also, God forbid the defense needs the offense to pick it up one or two games a season. Not sure what defense you're watching but Buffalo's is as good as they come.

Excuses! More excuses. All NFL teams lose players to injury. It was the RAIDERS!! Stop making excuses for poor play vs a god awful team

It was ONE GAME. A game which they were missing arguably the best DT in the game and two upper tier DB's. I guess every NFL analyst who puts Buffalo's defense on par with Seattle is wrong and you are right.

Buffalo was 3rd or 4th in defensive ranking. Yards and points.

Bradford? His knees are mashed potatoes. They cannot risk that.

Schwartz runs a 4-3 and Rex a 3-4. When Mike Tomlin took over as HC of the Steelers he was wise enough to leave Dick LeBeau alone even though he ran a different D. Maybe Rex will do the same thing.

Seems to me the more important thing is the OC and the QB. I can't see spending $1.4 billion and then betting it on EJ Manuel.

In 2015 the salary cap is expected to grow to by about $15 million. That would leave Buffalo with about $36 million to spend. If they don't get a seasoned QB they are nuts. I imagine that was a big topic of discussion with Rex.

It's becoming more and more likely he doesn't end up with a HC job and maybe just as possible he doesn't end up with an OC position either. Should be interesting.

It's a big bet that the jets sucked because of their roster. It's not the worst bet ever

Win or lose, at least you'll be entertained.

It's not the worst bet, and I don't think Sexy Rexy is a bad coach. I just think he's become a bit overrated because people like him and prefer to blame the Jets comically bad front office.

That being said, he did have some weapons in NY, he just oversaw a terribly vanilla offense and dreadful QB play. Maybe the Bills can load up so much talent on O, get a top-tier QB, and convince Rex to keep his mitts off, that he can't poison it like he did in NY.

It's really all about finding a QB for you guys.

I didn't see the Buffalo Bills hiring of Rex coming and I am wondering about the decision dynamic. Saint Doug had a lot of issues with players and management that boiled over into displays of will and temper. Could it be that Rex's reputation as a guy players love to play for have a part in the choice? Peace in the family is probably a good place to start if you are a new owner.
Greg Roman certainly knows how to use a QB like EJ Manuel that can run so maybe that was a factor in the decision. (Personally, I think EJ was simply a big mistake and the Bills need to move on.)

Since the Bills interviewed everybody except sutomcat, they certainly pulled the trigger decisively. Can't wait to hear the reasoning.

Just a matter of time until the MFC polluted yet another thread, I guess.
