OT: Rex Ryan signing with Buffalo per ESPN

Year 3 he had Holmes and Burress at WR and Keller at TE. Not amazing but pieces that could have been productive had Sanchez not begun his regression.

This year Ivory had another decent year, Decker was a strong addition, the OL was good...and again his QBs sucked.

I'm not suggesting he has the Broncos skill players or anything. But I'm also acutely aware that if you have a really good QB and a strong OL you don't necessarily need that to at least eek into the playoffs.

Like I said, in Buffalo he'll need to find a QB right quick.
Rexy has a tattoo of Sanchez...

I really don't understand this. You give Rex the extra years you wouldn't give the guy that just coached you to 9-7 and two wins against the Jets and Rex?

They offered Marrone the extension.

I agree it was clearly Pegula wanted the splash candidate. Rex is a loud mouth who can coach defense and is a player's coach. He just isn't a great HC as his teams regressed badly the last 4 years but he is loud and allows Pegula to win the press conference.

I don't know of anyone that "hates" Marrone, some, myself included, think that he's vastly overrated as a coach. Perhaps it's the recent defense of all things Marrone that makes you a member of his fan club? For someone who has openly mocked the Bills on this site, you seem pretty interested in their off-season moves.

Yeah, 46-50 is pretty crappy. Kinda like 15-17...
My interest in St. Doug is as an alum and former coach of my team. I could care less about an irrelevant franchise like the Buffalo. Rex has been mediocre a lot longer than St. Doug- so let's bring that guy in to coach- typical Bills move. The Bills have been in the cellar for nearly a decade and a half so you can't say they don't deserve to be ridiculed. I prefer to think of it as speaking the truth-they're one of the 3 worst franchises in the league-nothing personal it's the reality of that franchise. As for St. Doug, I give him an incomplete for his work in Buffalo, but if I were a Bills fan I'd still appreciate the job done. Buffalo is a tough place to win given the ownership and complete incompetence of the front office. As for him not getting along with everyone I haven't defended it I've merely stated that it is irrelevant and I don't really much care. For a backwards franchise with a losing culture like Buffalo it's probably a badge of honor. We'll see if the Pigulas bring anything different but that remains to be seen, but it seems like trading in 1 middling coach for another is hardly a step in the right direction.

I didn't know either, but apparently the Bills offered Marrone a 2 year extension to the 3 years he already had left. So they were willing to commit to him for 5 years, just like for Rex.

So it seems an unavoidable conclusion that Marrone left to pocket the cash and trade up. Agent must've been convinced he'd get the Jets or Falcons job.

Oops.

I'm pretty sure I remember some posts about how no one would want to go to buffalo. Now they got the biggest name
Rex got happy feet and took the first job offer. Atlanta wants McDaniels and he wasn't getting any other job. He took Buffalo over a 50/50 shot at Atlanta or replacing Mike Ditka at ESPN.

It is a splash hire but not what Buffalo needed. Marrone owned Rex this year. Rex is loud and gives the press quotes and pumps his players up he is not great.

Bills roster was way better. I think it's impossible to win with the jets roster and idzik isn't firing himself

Haven't read through this thread yet, but do you like the hire Millhouse?

Rex inherited a good roster in 2009 when he replaced Mangini. He is a meathead your going to hate as he runs his team in a manner where he doesn't want his offense screwing his defense up. He will punt and rely on his double A gap blitz to win Buffalo games.

Rex isn't that good he gets the perception he is great because his team beat Brady/Belichick in 2010 and didn't finish the job. His teams regressed after the first 2 years.

I am ho hum about it. I don't feel sick like when they hired Gerg and talked west coast o.

Everyone is just a name out of a hat. Glad it's not Hamilton or gase, I guess

Right there with you. I don't really have a thought yet. Other than the fact our defense was great and getting better, while our offense was clearly the issue, and we hired a defensive guy.

Hoping FA can help with o-line.

I don't think he is perceived as great at all. If anything, most people think he's overrated as any.

And that jets roster wasn't that good at all. Who were their wideouts? Holmes? Running backs- thomas jones and Greene? Sanchez?

He gets the perception because he made two conference championships with decent but not great teams. I don't think he's great. Hopefully he has learned about offense. I don't think anyone could succeed with the current jets offense

Braylon Edwards/Santonio Holmes TE- Dustin Keller, RBs-Thomas Jones(led the AFC in rushing in 2009) OL- Nick Mangold first team all pro. Ferguson and Fanaca pro bowlers.
Defense led by first team all pro Darrelle Revis, Shaun Ellis 2nd team all pro.
Kris Jenkins, David Harris, Calvin Pace.

This team was good and deep. Mangini constructed the team to compete with NE. It was a balanced team.

The offensive line is the biggest difference between the teams. Jets then, bills now. I'll take Watkins over them at wideout and the current bills D + Alonso

Ruining, nice. Marrone didn't ruin ej though, I'm sure
Maybe St. Doug did, maybe he didn't- he just finished his second pro season so to be fair the jury is still out. Rex definitely ruined Sanchez so I'm not sure how that's a plus for Buffalo. Who could forget Rexy putting him in and getting him killed in a pre-season game-in the 4th quarter? That's the kind of wisdom that will surely resurrect EJ Manuel. We haven't even started talking about Geno- yes this is exactly the kind of qb guru Buffalo needs.

Exactly. He took manginis team to 2, AFC Champ games.

Lets see what he does with marrones team...

Mangini>Marrone

He's overrated as a DC too. He just didn't what he was given in Baltimore, remember he was just a position coach for the ring...and without revis the jets weren't much. Good DL though...

Why does anyone need to 'win the presser' in buffalo???... Who da fluck cares? Obviously Atlanta, Chicago and SF didn't want him.

No Super Bowl forthcoming for c & wny...

Well... they got the guy that will promise the most each season and deliver, usually, significantly less. If this equates to the biggest name, then yes, they got the biggest name.

Exactly. Rex walked into a great Jets team and felt the need to "break it up" and bring in "his guys"...and his guys all failed!!!
