Our new Co-OC and QB coach

Just so we’re all clear, a former HC isn’t coming here to share a title with Mike Lynch and work for an offensive minded HC.

If we are ever to find such a coach and pay the $, he’ll be leading the defense.

Derek Dooley is to Tennessee, what G-Rob is to Syracuse...

What? This guy is over qualified for out wr or co-oc. Geeez, some of you guys are delirious.

Missouri: Dallas Cowboys receivers coach Derek Dooley will be the new offensive coordinator at Missouri! The former Tennessee and Louisiana Tech head coach has never served as a offensive coordinator. At Missouri Dooley will also coach the quarterbacks…which to our knowledge he has never done before either. Oh boy… let’s do this! Prior to his two head coaching opportunities Dooley coached tight ends for Saban with the Dolphins, running backs, tight ends and special teams at LSU and receivers at SMU back in the late 90s.

AND to think some on here didn't like the idea of him coming here as an assistant. My God.

Sincere respect for the thread. He went to Mizzou, but clearly you knew he was out of Dallas and SYR must have been in the discussion. Kudos.
I don’t think either of those things are true. The tweet about him leaving Dallas was a half hour before the original post.

And that’s not happening since the DC isn’t going anywhere.

What about Ron Whitcomb from Old Dominion. He is an east Rochester grad. Was a really good QB for Maine and has done very good job at ODU with their QBs. Plus he has extensive ties in a recruiting territory that is important to us.

Head coaches who didn’t work out are often the best choice for coordinators.

I just don’t see how an offensive guy would work out here. Lynch already has half the title and sits in the booth. Head coach is an offense guy. Too many cooks in the kitchen and likely ends up being conflict of egos.

Doesn’t mean you don’t reach out and/or interview them though.

Defense, sign me up for one of these types who cut his teeth on that side of the ball. We often joke about Ash, but the moment Rutgers makes a change, he’d be the perfect type to lock down.

It's an analogy. Relax. An analogy that can't be denied. As a head coach, just like G-Rob, he took over for a longtime, winning, popular HC, and drove them further into the ground, and just like Syracuse, Tennessee has never fully recovered. If you can't see the similarity, then I don't know what to tell you .
He could be a great WR coach...but my comparison was to that of a Head coach. I never said anything one way or the other about if I thought he'd make a good WR coach or OC here.

Wasn’t it Kiffin after Fulmer?

My grandma is an absolute liability behind the wheel of a car, but she knits a mean sweater. He doesn't have to drive the car, he needs to knit the sweater. The comparison is moot.

Also, I haven't had any coffee this morning and I haven't really read this thread, we were just talking in analogies and I thought this one was fun! Havin fun. :)

I wish there was a smack my head emoji.
The comparison was as a head coach. It was not an indication that he would not be a good oc or position coach. There is zero evidence Dooley is a good HC, and Dooley as HC at Tennessee, to me, is akin to G-Rob being HC at Syracuse. Both hires kind of cemented both programs downward spiral. Granted Tenn. didn't fall as far as us, but they also started out from a higher standard than we were used too, and neither program has gotten back to where they were at before the respective hires. Therefore my point is anti-mooty? It has so much anti- moot that it should get it's own thread just like orangefogs liver got it's own thread. My post is considered by many...most notably myself, as the "Anti-Moot Capital of the World"

The time stamp of a Tweet is not a reliable way to track this stuff.

Cool story. Whats it have to do with him being a coordinator, position coach? In terms of the thread topic, and matter at hand, it is moot. If we we're talking about him being considered for a head coaching position, different story.

Right, because in not one other thread on here has anyone ever made a comment that was only partially about what the o.p. was about. Seriously...where is that smack my head emoji. It's not as if I commented on something that wasn't Derek Dooley...

Right, you can talk on the subject that's fine. Doesn't make your analogy anymore less moot.

I found it:

Major Applewhite is hiring Kendal Briles and Randy Clements at Houston.
Looks like yet another school to run the Baylor offense.
What is Dino waiting on to make his hires?

we were never bringing in a briles

Maybe. But I think there’s a certain amount of risk to bring in someone who’s totally new to this O. We don’t need an OC but even a QB coach I think it’d be better if it’s someone from the tree. Terminology, timings, reads everything. It’s going to be tough to teach that to a new guy.

I wonder if Lynch goes to QB coach and we bring in an OLine coach. Or maybe even Babers assumes QB duties.

It will never happen, but man, in this hypothetical playing in my head... It’d be awesome.

I suspect the delay has something to do with two 4-8 seasons. I think we all know Babers has done well and is getting more time. But others may be more reluctant to sign on. Probably will need to get the upcoming position coach rather than the experienced guy.
