Our new Co-OC and QB coach

My grandma is an absolute liability behind the wheel of a car, but she knits a mean sweater. He doesn't have to drive the car, he needs to knit the sweater. The comparison is moot.
#knitthatsweater!

Please accept the flattery of having your analogy appropriated. Whenever I have the chance to talk about assistants doing their jobs, I'm dropping it.

I suspect the delay has something to do with two 4-8 seasons. I think we all know Babers has done well and is getting more time. But others may be more reluctant to sign on. Probably will need to get the upcoming position coach rather than the experienced guy.
It has nothing to do with record and everything to do with Babers being a control freak.

Maybe. But I think there’s a certain amount of risk to bring in someone who’s totally new to this O. We don’t need an OC but even a QB coach I think it’d be better if it’s someone from the tree. Terminology, timings, reads everything. It’s going to be tough to teach that to a new guy.

I wonder if Lynch goes to QB coach and we bring in an OLine coach. Or maybe even Babers assumes QB duties.
Not everyone can be from the tree. Babers had to start somewhere and as his assistants move on, he'll have to find others, often from outside the tree. It's Baber's offense, so I'm not concerned. I'd rather he find a bright guy willing to learn with a great personality for recruiting. He's not going to hire someone that will screw up his quarterbacks.

Major Applewhite is hiring Kendal Briles and Randy Clements at Houston.
Looks like yet another school to run the Baylor offense.
What is Dino waiting on to make his hires?

Maybe be happy he didn't go get Kendall Briles

I Love that people are complaining that Dino isn't hiring new coaches fast enough.. Good lord, find something to do

AFCA Coaches Convention Jan 7-10.

One stop shopping for all your coaching needs.

Brian Picucci, at Maine...wonder if he is interested?

I used to play basketball with him at Flanagan so ... yes. SUball:bat: All kidding aside, he has had a lot of success at the lower levels (if you want to consider UMass lower level) and could bring Josh Mack with him. That said, they just made him OC. I have to think he'd be interested, but his game is a ground attack isn't it? Not sure he's a fit with the Dino system (and that is not a suggestion that Dino doesn't like a run game).

University of Tulsa Athletics - 2017 Football Coaching Staff -- Is this a possibility? I know the Baylor ties are Sketch City, USA but it doesn't seem there's any direct ties to him, just that he was employed by Briles.

I think that would be a great hire. Knows the system. Has QB experience. Would be really to roll. But he is a Texas guy and would probably need a decent salary and OC title to make it worth his while.

That's a lot of Texas there. That might be too much of a culture shock for him. The one name I keep hearing is Sterlin Gilbert as a co-OC candidate.

Would be a home run for us, imo.

Sterlin Gilbert is the actual OC/QB coach at South Florida. I doubt he gives that up to come to Syracuse and be a Co-OC.
He would need to be the guy.
But from what I can find, he is only making 100k at USF. Surely we could give him more money than that.

Home run indeed if that comes to fruition. Just was thinking of QB coaches in the Briles/Montgomery/Babers tree that could make sense. I'd be fully on board with Gilbert

If we bring in another that shares the OC title that has to mean there is something important structurally there for HCDFB. I wonder what that is for him.

Justin Lustig was a head coach and came to be a RB coach. South Florida is a good program but it's no ACC

He would definitely get paid more at Cuse

Exactly. Coaching a good offense in the ACC for a couple years = HC opportunities

Seems LSU fans really want Gilbert.
USF fans hated Gilbert because, as we know, the offense was taking time to get going. The 100k salary can easily be outdone by a P5 school.
If I was an OC I would be scared to go to LSU at this point. They can't get a good QB and it seems Coach O doesn't really want his OC to run his own offense.

LSU promoted from within for their OC as far as I saw online today.
