I agree. 2020-21 was a success, given the circumstances. However, Syracuse Basketball has been mediocre since the self ban in 14-15. Post season success has been "surprise" post season success, not "expected" post season success.

4 games over .500 in ACC play. That's hard to look at.

True, but you can't ignore the post-season success, which is what people tend to do. Watch what happens to Kansas, Louisville and Arizona.

Have they done that consistently the last 7 years? no. you’re allowed to have down year here and there, what we are in right now is a downward spiral. those schools still land high level recruits, we just lost our last top 100 recruit to the portal until Benny gets on campus. there’s a difference.
We are not Kansas and never will be. Did you watch Kansas this season? Their talent level has dropped off by a lot. Look at our peers. Michigan State, UConn, Louisville, Arizona, Indiana, UCLA. Great programs that have been up and down, just like Syracuse. Even UNC and Duke have struggled recently. I wouldn't consider a Sweet 16 a downward spiral.

I get it - but its expectations. If you go into the tournament as an 11 seed, an 8 seed, a 10 seed, etc - it's a surprise when you're in the sweet 16.

When you go in as a 3, a 4, or a 1 ... you're expected to make the sweet 16.

This is the reality of the last 13 seasons.

SU fans want the 2008-2014 success. That's the expectations.

Well, we know why we've struggled since then, right? Syracuse isn't going to be a Top 4 seed every year in the tournament.

We all know about the sanctions. IMO we should still see affects in 2021 from something in 2014.

Nah 2003 was cool with me

Nah 2003 was cool with me

we're all gonna look so stupid when Melo retires after this NBA season and joins the coaching staff for JB & Buddy's final two seasons and we win back2back titles and the 2023 Sports Illustrated will read "Boeheim Can't Win Without M3lo (and he's okay with that)"

That would be hilarious, then Melo takes over for JB after he retires. Then hires Buddy as an assistant and then Buddy is next in line to take over once Melo leaves. Too easy, they can’t fool us

Syracuse was placed on probation for five years, from March 2015 to March 2020. We've made a FF run and two Sweet 16 runs in that time. We have not recruited as well as we had prior to the sanctions, for sure (lost some kids to the schools paying players) And we've had some bad luck (Bazely). I also think losing Hopkins hurt a lot, and of course, the question of when Boeheim will retire.

Let's not forget that Boeheim has done pretty well with transfers over the years. I'd say most have panned out well or at least contributed. I can think of Leo Rautins, Wes Johnnson, Michael Gbinjie, Elijah Hughes, Alan Griffin, Ryan Blackwell, Paschal Chukwu, Fred Saunders, Andrew White, Le Ron Ellis, John Gillon.

Some options

The Cuse is not the only place where good players are unhappy.

Actually watched a lot of kansas this season, won a decent amount betting against them this year. They still land multiple top 100 kids, which is not something we can say. Michigan State has been up until this year, Louisville was up until everything happened with Rick and last year had a very good year.. and also those great programs all have something in common, they saw the trajectory of their program and made a coaching change (L’Ville for different reasons of course, and if that hadn’t happened they wouldn’t even be in the discussion here) Aside from MSU (obviously) and Arizona, every school you listed has made a coaching change recently. We obviously have not and are not going to until JB says he’s ready, so how can we expect anything to change from what’s been going on the last 6/7 years?

So we agree that the talent level at Kansas was lower than it has been in recent years? Again, they are Kansas. They are going to get Top 100 kids. Are they getting the McDonald's AA's? Are the potential sanctions hurting their recruiting efforts? I think so.

This kid started for Kansas?

Louisville hasn't done anything in 6 years. What success have they had?

Michigan State has lost in the 1st or second round in 4 of their last 5 tournaments.

Arizona has done nothing. Uconn? Nothing. UCLA keeps firing coaches. So does Indiana. Because they have not been successful.

Boeheim has 1 year left more than likely. Who do you think is replacing him?

They are Kansas and we are Syracuse, we should be able to get top 100 kids consistently too, let’s not go out and make it seem like we’re some mid tier program, Syracuse basketball is a staple in college basketball, why can’t we recruit like it consistently? because we’ve been on a downwards trajectory. it’s the same thing it’s been for years, we make the tournament as a bubble, teams can’t prepare for our zone in a tournament setting with the quick turnaround, we make a run and everyone says how this will help in recruiting and our program is on the come up, and yet, nothing changes. again at what point did we start accepting a sweet 16 absolutely smothering loss as a success? i have higher standards for our program and i believe we have potential as a program that we won’t reach until something changes.

Correct Newhouse Kid, we finished just outside the Top 25. #26 in fact. See where it says "others receiving votes"? Make sense?
I understand how others receiving votes works, but you don't get to count that as a top-25. What's next? Counting "first team out" as a tourney appearance?

I didn't count it as Top 25. I said #26. Learn to read.

Again, do you think sanctions hurt our ability to recruit? It's hurting Kansas and they are Kansas, a blue-blood. Do you think losing Hopkins hurt? What about questions about Boeheim's retirement? Are we not getting Top 100 kids now?
