It’s Allways something . Even when when room we can’t get anything done.
This is the same team with best our best player leaving. What was our record? Will get will killed in the post again. With the resources that this program has not acceptable

Coleman wasn't the #1 or #2 recruit when we got him back on thanksgiving of '86. He was way down the list. He came on like a demon as the season went on. But that is the truth. We had two not one, back up guards. We had a center that hadn't done a thing and a swing forward that really couldn't score. Going in to the season, things were not so bright.
From 1983 to 1990 we got a McDonald’s All-American every single season except 1987 but we got 2 in 1986 to average it out.

1983- Pearl
1984- Michael Brown
1985-Rodney Walker
1986- Derrick Coleman, Stevie Thompson

Post 1987
1988- Billy Owens
1989- Conrad McRae
1990- Adrian Autry

Point is talent wasn’t an issue for the program back then. Even if people were worried post 1986 season the talent was coming in.

Our talent the last 3 seasons is nowhere close to the talent we were bringing in the 1980s.

Jim Boeheim is a better coach now I believe and I don’t expect to be terrible next year. I just expect we will be mediocre in the regular season like we have the last 6 years and try to grind onto the good side of the bubble.

Eventually that gets tiresome.

He picked the best college basketball program in the country, with the best coach in the country, and it’s home. It was a no brainer. He absolutely made the best decision for himself. I’d do the same thing if I was him.

Except its not the same team. Assuming that all returning players will play at the same level is ignorant of history. Every player on this team made a jump this year. Marek is now a walking mismatch and will likely be asked to score more (which he will). I expect Buddy to further improve and I expect a bigger improvement from JGlll. Why would you think QG will be the same? Big improvement coming, I believe. If Sidibe plays near his end of year level, we can be very good. Only depth will be an issue and it remains to be seen if the frosh will contribute. Certainly, that has happened in the past.

But doesn’t it say something when a kid would rather sit on bench somewhere rather than play for us? It starts at the top

Why do you think he was getting some sort of PT guarantee if he came here? I realize we believe the path to PT to be easier, but JB has two characteristics that make PT less than a sure thing.

1. He is typically super loyal to returning upper class men. I don’t believe that Tape is so far ahead of City Bay that he would start the season as a starter.

2. If a player plays well at a position, avoids foul trouble and injury JB tends to feed them as many minutes as possible. Meaning Tape could come here and have trouble winning much PT because JB be JB.

If he isn’t guaranteed PT at either spot Duke looks more enticing because they probably have better prospects for a championship caliber season than we do. Might be enough for him just to know that at worst, he’ll be a part of it of what Duke does next year.

How many more games would have won if our bigs weren't fouled out or in heavy foul trouble? at least 3 maybe 4.

We need another big

One realistic jump for City Bay this year to next would be for him to play smarter and reduce the fouls. We’ve seen that happen for a ton of our better bigs. If that clicks for him, he may be all that we need at the 5. No guarantee, but not unreasonable to hope for either. The game moves slower and slower as guys mature and gain experience.

Explain your optimism. There is a long list of big men that we missed and list continues to grow

Well - by definition, we’re going to “miss” on more than we get, since we offer multiple guys every year.

So yeah - math.
Thx for pointing that out.

1987 had the number 1 or 2 recruit in the nation in our recruiting class in Derrick Coleman.
I mean if we had a 5 Star stud in this class I think people would be a little more optimistic.

Our biggest issue right now is talent.
I think if you give JB talent he can coach it well and get a lot of it.

We don’t have the horses. To compete with the best in our conference. Tape was just going to give us more quality depth.
His loss isn’t a back breaker but if we lose Hughes to the NBA it’s basiclaly relying on Braswell or Guerrier to be elite.

Our backcourt will win some games and lose them as well.
If we lose Hughes I predict 17-14 next year. With him 19-12.
Good post but if we have Hughes back, you feel that he would be a difference in that we would only win 2 more games. I believe ( my opinion) that he is much more than a two game difference player. His play this year more than contributed to 90% of the wins and his absence from the game was a factor in at least 3 or more games.

Regarding talent, we have been able to get more out of studs like Coleman, Owens and Anthony and surrounding them with good complementary players. I remember that Christmas, Greene, and McC were top 25 recruits but they were either injured, one and done or slow to mature. We need one (at least) decent 5 star to stay and play for at least 2 years (preferably 3-4) to re-build/rekindle our team. Dior is coming (fingers crossed) and hopefully others will follow.

The kid doesn't think he will sit the bench for Duke. He thinks he will play as much there as here. And I think he is probably correct if that is what he thinks. Add to the fact that he is from North Carolina, and they are Duke, not hard to see why he chose them over us.
He may have been referring to Brycen here instead of Tapé. I feel that Tape made a decision that will be beneficial for him (being closer to his family) and that is fine. Can’t be disappointed with a player that we never had. Regarding Brycen, we will need a player of his potential but one who will contribute when called upon. He did not demonstrate that this past year. If he had, minutes would had been made available.

Hughes is worth 2 wins because our schedule will be harder next year.

We should have won more games this year but that doesn’t really matter at this point as their was no tournament so no point being frustrated at it.

We just need more talent and Tape was talent. He wasn’t going to be the difference in winning a NC but he gives JB more options and when you give JB talent he knows how to build a system around it.

We don’t have much elite talent on this team right now.
Guerrier has the most untapped talent so hopefully it’s him or Richmond/Newton are a lot better than expected next year.

We're certainly top 10 in resources and haven't been ranked higher than 14th in a single poll in 6 years. That's beyond depressing.

We'd be in good shape if all our players improved greatly and no one elses did.

Losing Tape to Duke isn’t the problem.

If people take off their biases they see what we are.
We are Florida State football 2004-2009.
2005 for them would be our Final Four season in 2016. They went to the Orange Bowl and lost.

2004 9-3
2005 8-5
2006 7-6
2007 7-6
2008 9-4
Then finally they forced him to retire
2009 7-6

That is basically what we are the last 6 years.

Bowden built FSU from nothing like Boeheim did Syracuse.
Difference is our fanbase won’t push Boeheim to retire and a good portion of fanbase don’t care to see the issues addressed and think the coach does anything wrong.

It’s not going to change until JB retires then we will sink and it will be up to the next guy to swim back up.

He is the exact example that I always use as well. There is no record of any coach in their 70s in any sport maintaining success. Coach K would be the only one but he hasn't won the ACC regular season or made the Final Four in his 70s either.

The negativity is unbearable
There is difference between being bluntly loud aka me and being negative to be negative.

I call it the way I see it. I give positivity and am not afraid to be bluntly truthful in my opinions. People mistake that i talk in facts sometimes I mess that up and am not afraid to admit when I am wrong. The problem is the loudest people against me typically are the biggest homers who can’t even pretend to be objective.

I agree, but Edwards needs a RS year to gain weight, JBA may not be ready, even if Sidibe plays smarter that is only an extra 5 to 8 mins a game.

Centers don't play 35-40mins a game. We need another big.

The next coach is going to be absolutely annihilated by the negative nellies on here if the team doesn’t do better then our current roster. Imagine this board if the next coach goes sub .500
