I think the officiating has become horrific this year because the refs are doing too many games. Travelling constantly across the country. One day I see a ref in North Carolina, the next night he's in New Jersey, then the next night he's in Indiana. They either fly out right after the game or early the next morning. All of that travel makes you a little groggy. Refs shouldn't be allowed to do more than 3 or 4 games per week.
Syracuse's own Pat Driscoll is reffing the WVU/Pitt game. He's probably the best ref in college, be we can never get him because of his affiliation with the city. I'm amazed Driscoll refs as many games as he does, because he has a full time job back in Syracuse. I'm guessing he must get about 9 or 10 weeks of vacation and uses every bit of it during the basketball season. Amazing to find an employer that lets you miss so much time over a consecutive period. Probably only works on Thursdays and Fridays during the season.
