Postgame Thoughts… ND

Solid road win.

One of the better performances by an SU center in recent memory.

The frosh fouled way too soon at the end.

2 rebounds out of our three forwards. Something is going on with Brown; either still injured or something at practice. We all love JBA but he is a "break glass in case of emergency" guy.

That said...JBA was our top assist man and had more than our starting guards put together. God Bless him but in no universe is that a good thing.

2 boards from our starting forwards. Joe had 5 all by himself. Also not good. At all.

Nice to see Joe back from whatever island Joe has been on, albeit on 2 for 10 from behind the arc.

You can see the potential in this team but it still has a long way to go. No complaints though, the guys came through in a tough environment. Kudos to the team for ending the slump.

great road win, cancels out either the Colgate or Bryant losses

South is actually the perfect comp as he played when Grant should have been playing more. Specifically for rebounding reasons

In 2012-13?? Hmmm. I remember wanting more Grant, but I don’t remember wanting less Southerland. That team badly needed his shooting from what I recall.

Bell - 2/2/0
JBA - 2/0/4
Benny - 2/0/1

FFS give Brown a chance

Absolutely. JBA is a good guy. I'm happy he has become somewhat of a contributor. 4 assists is terrific, but zero rebounds from a near-seven footer is not.

Maliq Brown should get 8 to 10 minutes a game. I guarantee he will get us 4 or 5 rebounds, play solid positional defense, and probably score on a couple put-backs.

What team wouldn't want that?

Yeah this game has a really, really weird statistical profile.

Unusual to win like that.

I know you're not a Bell fan.

He doesn't help his case by being such a trash rebounder. Zero instincts.

But I think people are being really harsh on him. The upside is Dirty South. Well, James redshirted his freshman season, and Bell's starting games and has the 2nd most made threes on the team because the rest of the team is that unproven and inexperienced.

I'm a little more optimistic that he's going to figure it out.
Southerland was a freak athlete, though. Haven’t seen that from Bell yet.

This is what I think works, regarding our forwards = continue to start Benny and Bell, just for their confidence, and continue to give them 4-8 minutes to start every game. They might play well, and you continue to run with them until they cool off, or miss too many defensive assignments.

When you substitute forwards, I would like to see Taylor and Brown together. I think they would complement each other better. Taylor gives you the three point and midrange offensive threat, he can hit a foul shot, and he plays hard. Benny & Bell are too inconsistent at rebounding, though, so pair Taylor with Maliq Brown for the rebounds and interior defense. Or maybe you pair Taylor with Copeland when you're playing against a smaller, man-to-man team.

If JBA can't rebound better, you can only pair him with one of the starters, who both offer athleticism, potential rebounding and potential scoring. Benny & Bell are just too inconsistent right now. Right now, nobody has won the job, so play them all, and play the ones who give the best effort extra.

I can find my posts from that year. I was begging for Grant because we couldn’t board. And the only reason he finally got a chance was the suspension
That’s a tough one though. Triche and MCW both shot 29% from 3. Cooney was worse. Fair shot a great percentage on little volume.(30 for 64)

Southerland shot 40% from 3 and made 84 of them, and could defend. Tough to score without him. He had the highest PER on the team, Grant was 8th.

JBA again leading us in assists - last 2 games 8 assists 0 turnovers. He has over a 4 assist to turnover rate this season - have to laugh that’s unbelievable for a guard less than a 6’10” player. Want to see him rebound, he’s too tall not to rebound. By the way Benny can’t get shut out rebounding- yikes. A great stat - only 4 turnovers for the entire game for SU and thankfully that Laszewski kid who has been killing it had only 2 points. Jesse so effective underneath - both scoring and rebounding - wow! ND’s guard Goodwin lead ND with 9 rebounds. Much better 2nd half for Judah.

Yeah, whats up with not playing Brown? I havent been able to watch much this year but he looked like he deserved to play in the game clips I've seen
